First of all, Brenda Lee does not return to #1 this year after getting there for the first time last year. Overall it's the same old Christmas songs except for three notable new entries. Perry Como makes his very first chart appearance in New Zealand. Kelly and Ariana both score their second Christmas entry, you may have forgot 'Underneath The Tree' didn't chart at all here until last year, peaking at #20 then and at #11 now. And Cher charts for the first time since 'All Or Nothing' in 1999. Cher and Kelly are also among the three album chart new entries, the third being Kylie Minogue. |

We see Saltburn impact with the return of 'Murder On The Dancefloor', which is actually also a #2 hit in New Zealand; it spent three non-consecutive weeks at #2 behind three different songs: Shakira's 'Whenever, Wherever', Darren Hayes' 'Insatiable', and P!nk's 'Don't Let Me Get Me'. Sophie also got to #3 with 'Get Over You' but hasn't charted in NZ since 'Music Gets The Best Of Me' (#25 peak) dropped out in April 2003. 'One Of The Girls' was listed on the chart website as a re-entry in its 4th week, so it appears that this chart company has also mistaken it for Troye Sivan's 'One Of Your Girls'

That said, the top 10 does look fresher with 'yes, and?' and 'leavemealone' replacing 'Cruel Summer' and 'Paint The Town Red'. Prior to this week, 21 Savage only had two charting songs as first credited artist, and now he has five. Two of these surpass the #26 peak of 'A Lot' while all three surpass the #39 peak of 'Bank Account'. He also claims his first #1 album in New Zealand. His two previous bests were both collabs (#2 for Her Loss with Drake, #5 for Savage Mode II with Metro Boomin). Further down, Kali Uchis makes her first appearance on NZ's album chart, while Kid Cudi makes his fourth (none of which were his 2009 release, ironically). |

I'm interested to see if that changes or not. If you guessed that Foo Fighters must have performed in NZ, and that's why their album is #1, well, you're right! That's the first time that particular album is #1, it previously debuted and peaked at #7. They now have 9 #1 albums in NZ out of 14 total that have charted. Is anyone else surprised that Green Day is only at #6? Their last release Father Of All peaked at #5. Actually, out of their 11 top-5 albums, 6 have peaked at #5. But this is only their fifth album to miss the top 5 in NZ. |

Kacey Musgraves has just her second charting album in NZ, but easily beats the #30 peak of that one (Star-Crossed). And Justin Timberlake is almost an afterthought, missing the top 5 for the first time - except for the complete version of The 20/20 Experience, which charted separately from Part 1 & Part 2 and peaked at #22. Part 1 remains Justin's only #1 album in NZ. |

But potentially bigger news is Fred again.. having a very successful concert in NZ, just look at his chart impact! He ends up with as many debuts this week as Future & Metro Boomin. Both of these cause Olivia Rodrigo to settle for a #26 debut, whereas Hozier manages a bit better with 'Too Sweet' entering at #12. It's instantly his second-highest-charting song in NZ, beating the #13 peak of 'Someone New', and a drastic improvement from 'Eat Your Young', which spent just one week at #38 a year ago. On the album chart, Future and Metro Boomin both earn their second #1, after they both got their first in 2022 (I Never Liked You and Heroes & Villains respectively). Fred again..'s USB earns a new #5 peak, having previously peaked at #35. Further down, Fletcher has diminishing returns at #23, her previous release reached #9 in 2022. |

'Take Me To Church' peaked at #2 for him just as it did in almost the entire Anglosphere. Further down, 'Hell N Back' already re-enters higher than its #22 peak last year, J. Cole adds two debuts, and Benson Boone's newie is the biggest climber of the week. Beyonce got only her third #1 album last week, the other two being Lemonade and Renaissance! This may be the first of the three to not get a second week at the top, unless it rebounds. J. Cole also earns his third #1 album, the other two being KOD and The Off-Season. Both of those only had one week at the top, so we'll see if this one follows suit. The Black Keys end their top 10 album streak, which spanned 6 albums back to (and including) Brothers in 2010. Conan Gray falls way short of the #11 peak of Superache two years ago, also falling short of the #32 peak of Kid Krow in 2020. Vampire Weekend also have their lowest-charting album to date, if you disregard their self-titled debut which didn't chart. Their last release in 2019 reached #24, while their best to date is Contra, #12 in 2010. |

Most notably, a new peak for 'Nobody Gets Me', which previously peaked at #33! Sabrina Carpenter actually charts for the very first time in NZ; none of 'Skin', 'Nonsense' or 'Feather' made the top 40 but that doesn't stop 'Espresso' from debuting in the top 10. Dua Lipa sees a muted start for 'Illusion', after 'Houdini' peaked at #13 and 'Training Season' at #10, but we'll see if it climbs. And we'll see if Badger comes anywhere close to the #2 peak of the original 'These Words'. Crazy to think that Linkin Park could've had a #1 album this week if SZA had picked another week to tour NZ! (  ) Instead it's a 9th week at #1 for SOS, and the first in almost a year. Future and Metro Boomin' don't match the #1 peak of their album from a few weeks ago; meanwhile Fred Again continues to climb with USB now in the top 3.
