It's anthemic and it did grow on me in the end, but it is a generic and identikit Guetta sounding song for its time.

I think this is the definition of an out and out banger. I remember listening to it premiered on Ryan Seacrest's radio show and just being in no doubt it'd be a massive smash. Listening now, it sounds surprisingly fresh and hasn't aged badly given how inherently generic/of its time it is.

This came out just as I was starting to come out of my awful 16-year-old "pop music is awful!" phase and it was the first song by Rihanna I loved and completely admitted to loving and completely embraced. It also kickstarted a couple years of pop that I'll always probably be nostalgic for. (A certain single that would be released a year later is, for me, the crown jewel of that couple years of pop, but we're not there yet).
