1960s Top 40 Rate Number 4s While there were several different UK singles charts during the 1960s (with the NME weekly chart being the most widely followed), the Guinness Book Of Hit Singles and, subsequently, the Official Charts Company use the Record Retailer chart as their reference during this period, so that's the one we'll be using here. The 'Official' Singles Charts, as we know it, didn't begin until February 1969. These series of rates will cover March 1960 (when the chart expanded to a Top 40 for the first time) to December 1969. Below is a chronological list of all the singles which peaked at No.4 in the UK during the 1960s. accidental visitors welcome in the retro lounge
great very soul heavy results though it's almost as if the worldwide British Invasion never happened - no Beatles, no Stones, no Kinks, no Dusty, no Cilla, Sandie, Tom, not even one. Best that can be claimed is PP Arnold, a minor US act based more in the UK! |
