 The Future Of Girl Bands In The UK? |

So there has been predictions and generalisation that The Saturdays and Little Mix will be this decade's Sugababes-Girls Aloud Spice Girls-All Saints girl band successes. What are your thoughts? Is there a girl band revival on the way?
In my opinion The Saturdays will be over in a matter of time, they could bring a Greatest Hits out and have success with such an era but after that they'll split or flop, they're all basically moms now and are on the verge of irrelevance with their latest album selling next to nothing. Their age doesn't do them any favours either with much younger groups like Little Mix and Neon Jungle now in the picture. Little Mix give me Sugababes teas, they're that type of vocally gifted R&B tinged girl band that most will deem credible, their album sales are impressive too and their inconsistency with consecutive top 10 hits show that they're that type of girl band that are album sellers with big lead singles (Sugababes teas). Neon Jungle are now in the picture as well, who are the best out of the bunch for me, they give me All Saints teas. They're very edgy, fun, sassy and likable and their sound is so fresh which I think The Saturdays lack. I predict Neon Jungle and Little Mix to be the main girls, Neon Jungle have pulled off a big hit with 'Braveheart' with next to nothing promo and shitty airplay. 'Braveheart' is now becoming a success in Australia as well. Imagine if the Neon girls are fully backed by radio and garner major promo slots? The girls also seem to be the type who could bring out epic music videos with the right budget that actually have an effect on a single's sales. Little Mix and now Neon Jungle's international breakthrough success remind me of the old days where the Spices and All Saints were everywhere all over the world - I truly hope the same happens for Little Mix AND especially Neon Jungle - we need girl bands to slay properly like they always used to!  #TeamNeonJungle |

There will be never be another Spice Girls. The band would have to be of One Direction's current success, but if they were having #1 hit singles worldwide. No-ones managing that at the moment.

I don't think there'll be any UK girl groups this decade as big as The Saturdays or Girls Aloud tbh.

Little Mix I don't see lasting beyond a third album and a greatest hits album, they started off coming across as genuinely nice girls. They now all seem to have such massive egos, it won't be too long before their is a backlash against them or someone (Perri or whatever the one engaged to Zayn) decides to go solo.
Neon Jungle are the next Stooshe. |

Neon Jungle are currently in a very similar position as to StooShe imo at this stage, just not quite as big as StooShe were, so I guess the third single will be make or break for them, like it seems to be for most girl groups. I'd like to see them break through though I adore girl groups and the UK can never have enough imo. I adored 'Trouble' but not convinced with them as a group yet and 'Braveheart' was very faceless for me, it could have been by anyone. BUT I am looking forwards to their follow ups and hope they break through and make a success of themselves.
Little Mix are my favourite group atm and I think people put down their success a bit. Salute is a perfect album imo actually I loved the DNA album too which I know gets a little bit of stick. LM remind me of k-pop with a British edge which I like. The Saturdays are the traditional girl group for me and my favourite 'type' of group, five piece girly dancing pop group. They just rarely get it all right at once for me, I find them quite frustrating because of that, but they've released some perfect pop songs for me (Higher, Ego etc) and they're always fun and light hearted, they always look like they're enjoying it to me. I'd miss them if they were to go, I just hope they can get back to their pop routes a bit more as they've become a bit generic too as of late. |

You seem to be getting many 'teas'
. Why is this a thing and what does it actually mean?! 'Braveheart' wasn't THAT big a hit and it's not proving to have too much staying power so I don't feel Neon Jungle are really established enough yet to be considered in the same league as Little Mix. Their next single will be make or break for them (It's 'Welcome to the Jungle', right?). Haven't heard it but read good things about it somewhere. I'd say The Saturdays will call it a (satur)day soonish, with Little Mix sticking around for a few years to be the main players in the volatile girl band market. Neon Jungle could well be there if they get the material right. I notice their single covers don't feature the girls themselves and I get the feeling they're not being marketed as a girl band necessarily, which may be a smart move. |

You need to remember the Saturdays were formed in 2007 and were releasing for the last few years of the noughties, filling up for GA and Sugababes. I think that Little Mix will call it a day when their egos get in the way (Like The Wanted) and Neon Jungle will do a Stooshe

Neon Jungle are like Stooshe yeah and Little Mix are atrocious. They should never be compared to Spices or Saints or even Sugarbabes/ Alouuud.
Besides, Spice Girls were never that big, their main career lasted 2 years and if they were releasing now compared to the hoigher sales climate, then 1D would actually be bigger than them. Adjusting for sales, 1D today are bigger than Spices ever were  Girl bands just never do that well. |

The difference between Stooshe and Neon Jungle is that Neon Jungle are not releasing an irrelevant cover version as their 3rd single, 'Welcome To The Jungle' sounds epic from the snippet released, I must be on my own in this but I really see Neon Jungle becoming a long-lasting successful girl group, it's early days I know, but their sound and image just screams slayage to me and 'Braveheart' has already surpassed 200k with no promo and a low budget video.
Mark my words, I predict them to NOT be the next Stooshe and that single #3 will do equally as well as 'Braveheart' in almost Up/Issues-like way. I have met the girls and they are just stunning and I really see the UK warming to them, even AUS is warming to them - something Stooshe and The Sats couldn't come close to! Great signs

I don't understand why you constantly underplay their huge success.  There's no relevance in comparing them to acts who are current almost 20 years later. Their sales were achieved in the 90s, and they were huge sales.

Great signs No offense Marc, but I think you are getting a little bit ahead of yourself. Yes Braveheart has sold over 200k but it is all down to the next single. If it flops like Trouble did then they will be in a tricky situation. That is the key to their success. They have had a mediocre hit but they need to see if the can equal / if not better it. |

I don't think Neon Jungle will last that long if they continue to release songs like Braveheart as it's very danc-ey and it doesn't give them much of a personality in terms of music. They really need to get a signature sound but I wouldn't exactly 'mind' if they took over The Saturdays' place in the fufture

You keep claiming they're doing well, but The Saturdays launched in 2008 more successfully in a worse sales climate. "Up" has sold about 340k+, which I don't see "Braveheart" getting anywhere near. Even "Issues" sold a decent amount too. I think they're in more Stooshe levels, even though "Black Heart" had massive sales too (around 400k?) |

This thread seems to be more about you trying to get across the fact that Neon Jungle are better or going to be bigger than 'The Saturdays' which is a big laughable. Firstly you can not compare a group that's been getting a top 10 for years and years with any new group and secondly Neon jungle will not be big TRUST me. They will be lucky to bring an album out.
Also, I don't think any if the current girl bands can compare to Spice girls, All saints or Girls aloud. Unfortunately none of them are or will be as big. Would be interested to see how Little mix are doing in a couple of years! |

Since when is 300k for first album and about 180k for 2nd album impressive? I think its pretty satisfactory but wouldnt describe it anywhere near impressive.
