BuzzJack Music Forum _ Kylie and Dannii Minogue _ Love & Kisses ● 30 years on

Posted by: Liam.k. 18th March 2021, 06:12 PM

Today marks 30 years since Dannii's debut single 'Love & Kisses' was released in the UK. It had first been released in Australia in February 1990 when it reached #4 and was certified Gold; in the UK, it was remixed by Dancin' Danny D and reached #8. It was the 99th best selling single of 1991 and is Dannii's fifth best seller.

30 years on, what are your thoughts and memories of 'Love & Kisses'?

I wasn’t a big fan of the first two albums. Only started to really like Dannii when she became more I credible with All I wanna do. Girl and Neon lights are great albums!

I didnt like her first 2 albums either and still dont, its a shame she didnt start off with more memorable music that gave her big hits to start with as i feel her early success with singles were all with passive songs that the general public wouldnt even know of which made it harder for her sustain her music career. I agree that Girl and Neon Nights are her highlights and so much better than her first 2 albums.

Not a favourite of mine at all.

As a six year old when this was released, I was the perfect audience for the fairly naive, simplistic lyrics. So I have a soft spot for this one.

It's got quite a catchy little groove to it too.

I just didnt take to Dannii at all in her early days and for me the singles got worse as she went on, this is it caught my attention but then didnt like what followed, thank god who do you love now came along.

Iconic - of course it’s very much of its time and has aged terribly BUT it was pop perfection when it was released.

I never thought it was in any way close to pop perfection even when released. ohmy.gif

Minogue fans just don't appreciate the urban groovz of this jam music.gif

Love the debut Dannii era. Dannii used to dance her arse off and bought the new jacks swing sound to the UK in 91 way before it popped in 1993. She worked with very trendy DJ’s like Bruce Forest and Silk Hurley yet people pass this album off as pop fluff (i guess it had its moments).

The album is still her biggest sellar in the UK even though its often reported that NN sold more.

It's the lyrics that tends to throw people off.

With that said, I miss the days when 18 year olds could just be 18 year olds and not "old souls" and all that crap. I appreciate the fact that it all feels very age appropriate. music.gif

I remain disappointed Love and Kisses remains Dannii's highest selling album as Neon Nights deserves that title.

Me too - it’s so of it’s time and has dated horribly but that’s what’s so good about it, it’s just a good pop/dance album without trying to be anything else.

There was a greater innocence in the industry back in those days.

30 Years since the UK release.

With these moves Dannii used to rock , i am still hoping she will sign for strictly one day or even the masked dancer.

Will stick this album on later 🥰

I really wonder if she'd ever do a show as a contestant at this point tbh - maybe for charity, but she's pretty much firmly positioned herself in the judges chair at this point.

It seems crazy to think this album was released just as I was about to start primary school, so naturally I wasn't aware of it and had no idea who she was at he time. laugh.gif

I was starting secondary school when this came out, i remember dannii coming on the music so well and the press doing their best to portray Kylie and Dannii did not get along.

Love that Dannii still highlights anniversaries on her social media

Of both sisters’ albums, this is the least memorable. (Disclaimer - I’ve not heard dannii’s 2nd album). Forget 30 yrs on, it sounded dated 4-5 years on itself!!

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 17th June 2021, 08:32 AM

Dannii's early work is mostly forgettable for me but thankfully her best music was ahead of her when she released love and kisses. As I said in different threads before I wish Dannii had the luck of signing with better record labels as she could have had more hits to her name.
