Pick & Mix week!!! magic.gif Chart Information will be very scarce this week, let's play it by ear this week.

Breakdown of the week
- Saturday: Some information may be posted on social media but it is likely to be missing most streaming data and is unrepresentative.
- Sunday: Official First Look Chart on Radio 1 from 6-7pm. Please do not post spoilers on the forum in advance as this ruins the countdown for any listeners.
- Monday: OCC Top 100 from 5:45pm
- Tuesday: Top 40 update as and when we receive them with requests, this is NOT 100% guaranteed however. The OCC may publish sales flashes of their own accord but likewise, this is not guaranteed. Twitter and social media is your friend for today. Please post any information you find with a source. Do not nag for updates, we will post a top 40 update if we receive one.
- Wednesday: Top 40 update from Music Week from 5:45, and potential top 5 sales but this is not guaranteed.
- Thursday: See Tuesday.

Other notes (please read)
- You may make requests Tuesday to Thursday but outside the top 40, specific positions will not be revealed (unless deemed necessary by a mod).
- Please do not demand a midweek update, one will be posted as and when we receive the information. Patience is a virtue.
- Sales information will be given out as deemed necessary by a moderator, please bear this in mind when making requests. Most requests for sales will be ignored. Any chart requests between No. 41 to 100 will not be answered after Monday's update.
- To keep everyone in the loop of all chart action, please refer to the iTunes and Spotify threads.

Nice to hear 'Rover' for the first time in a while, surprised 'Loose' didn't have any longevity in the chart and that we haven't seen much of S1mba beyond that.

#17 is a very good result for 'Rain On Me'!

Rover is alright but it started to grate on me when it was #3 for about 4 weeks straight - Death Bed & Breaking Me are both songs that I quite liked back then but honestly I forgotten all about them. Summer seems so long ago. Yay for Physical and ROM.

Wonder what happened to Break My Heart as it was comfortably top 20 when MTV did this chart (probably tracking up to a few weeks ago), although I was surprised it was so high there, Physical being ahead makes more sense.

Definitely agree, it's just such an unexciting list. That said, Blinding Lights is my favourite EOY #1 in pretty much forever.


edit - although I must admit that I do also like Rain On Me, Dance Monkey, both Harry tracks and of course both Dua tracks so that's a higher proportion than usual.

Streaming has made any list like this so stale as it skewers heavily towards songs released early in the year or even last year.

It wasn't in the top 100 YTD chart last week. 'Mr Brightside' by The Killers was though, at number 62. Its sale (Mr Brightside) for the year is about 500k. Dreams will be way behind on sales for 2020 and is probably on about 380k. I'm guessing here but I'd say the cut off point for the top 100 of the year is probably around 390k.

What can we expect for Sweet Melody this week?

Is it going ACR? Is there any chance that it could dodge ACR due to a streaming boost now that Xmas tracks are out of the way?

If you look only at their Spotify figures, they had a tiny drop from on average 166.8K to 161.7K but that's Spotify only... but here it did drop while the market increased

Think it's now looking more likely it'll just be Mariah again - not really sure why but Wham! seem to be peaking around the 23rd-25th and then falling back behind her again.

I do prefer Mariah's song but both are very far from my favourite Christmas songs. Honestly a part of me is hoping for Alexa to come through for Jess kink.gif if ever there was a week where it doesn't really matter how legitimate the #1 is...

Sweet melody highest non Xmas song at 26 so must still be on SCR!!

Thanks for that. The Christmas songs will more or less stay in the same order between now and Friday as they won't do much more.

That basically means it's a battle between Mariah and Little Mix then, but I doubt Little Mix will make up the deficit.

Incredible for Mariah if she can get a double run, but would have loved Wham! to get there.

I don't think Little Mix's position is that surprising as they are genuinely doing very well on the Amazon chart and they aren't that far behind on Spotify when you look at the numbers. I always thought they'd be contenders if still on SCR.

I agree with you about Jess's numbers being suspicious - but this doesn't feel suspicious to me.

Little Mix have been above Whoopty on Apple most of the time (They seem to switch at night) they're at #1 on Amazon while Whoopty is at 5.

The "problem" for the non Christmas songs is that Positions is #1 today with 220k (1540k per week) and Mariah did 2400K on Christmas Eve only... and it's still on Top 50.

The query was why was Dua Lipa 3 in the Midweeks. I am stating the facts.

It's cheap and it's one of the best selling albums of year and worlds most popular artist. course it can get back up the charts and sell well

Kylie hasn't streamed well, is on no playlists whatsoever and album 6.99 not 4.99. Kylie sold 1000+ this week so she is doing ok.

It's a freaky week in album sales probably based on Xmas Day and Boxing Day playlists for gatherings.

I love Dua Lipa and I know the album has been a success.

Wow, this week is much more of a mess than I'd have ever predicted. laugh.gif Christmas Day streams for the Christmas songs really just being absurdly larger than the streams for every normal song at the moment... (and not helping that Boxing Day was still a somewhat stronger day for them than usual as well). Will just be another week until the charts return to normal then! (Won't mind if it means Coldplay might get another top 40 week tbh)

I didn't consider it was even possible that 'Sweet Melody' would remain on SCR, probably has a good chance of hitting #1 next week then (unless 'positions' gets a reset, but I'm assuming at this point that the mass resets aren't happening, or if anything may be more likely to be happening 2 weeks from now than next week). Still don't like the song at all but it's obviously been a huge hit and I won't begrudge them possibly getting another #1 this far into their career.

Aside: Playboi Carti really picked a terrible day to release, I feel like the hype around his album surely would have carried him to at least 1 top 40 hit a la Lil Uzi's Eternal Atake if he hadn't just dropped on a day when literally no one cared for non Christmas music. As it were, by the time more people might be giving it a chance, it's already been critically panned. Lel ~

Miley #17 in the album chart is good - that should mean she'll rise some in the chart come Friday. She's been stuck at #17 for the last 3 weeks. Would love to see it get back in the top 10 at some point.

oh didn't realise Buble could be #1 based on his albums streams on Xmas day alone
but looking at the Spotify data on the 25th, and excluding the top 2 tracks, the rest did between 197-388K, 280K on average
if my calculations are right that would be around 3.5K on Spotify alone
so depending on the market share, Buble's album could have done easily 7K on streams on Xmas day alone

Weird seeing those three kings college albums clustered together, with the one variation in the artist name. Guessing people listened to a playlist with them altogether that has helped all three albums out.

The algorithm should be clever enough to give the Christmas songs virtually zero for Thursday.

I can see Little Mix and Ed making the Top 5 and quite a lot of other “normal” songs being dotted through the final Top 20.

It’s true that a simple download campaign would probably be enough to get Wham! there, artificial as that would be. Seems unlikely that it will happen in this sleepy week though.

Luckily it's not the average, but it's estimated based on algorithms that make predictions based on all existing Spotify data (machine learning).

They have definitely had new remixes/featured versions on NMF in the past though it is by no means common to see. A Dua feature sounds big enough to make the UK one in what I imagine will be another sleepy week.

'Three Lions' went 1-97, that's the record by far (LadBaby's song from last year is the only other one that's dropped out of the top 40 from #1, going 1-57). Looks like 2 of the top 3 biggest drops from #1 of all time are about to come in back to back weeks laugh.gif

Wow what a chart update that is 😂! Hope the Xmas songs hold up as it’ll be interesting to hear a Christmas chart on New Years Day and even better see the rundown on MTV right up to 7th January lol.

Hope ‘Christmas’ remains as the top selling album, amazing such a huge album has only been number one for three weeks all together.

Would be a shame to see ‘Driving Home For Christmas’ falling back out of the top 10 as it’s more than likely to do by Friday - deserves a top 10 peak officially, might have to wait until next December.

Christmas songs still get some residual streams after Christmas Day but it becomes pretty negligible very quickly. As much as people love to point out that Christmas is 'technically' not over until 6th January it's pretty clear that most people stop listening to Christmas songs after the 25th (with I suppose a slightly better showing on the 26th/27th than usual this year due to it being the weekend, and lockdown etc.)

I make that 70 Christmas songs in the top 100 update, and that's not counting Griff/Becky Hill/Celeste/Liam Gallagher/Ladbaby, so no way are 40 other songs coming to overtake Mariah by Friday laugh.gif It would be nice to think some Christmas songs could hold up enough to get new peaks, but I don't think that'll happen either (except maybe Snowman). I'd settle for The Pogues getting another week in the Top 10.

I don't see Little Mix improving on their #3 peak as I expect CJ and Ed will overtake next week, if not by Friday once the Spotify data catches up.

Same here I’ve will keep them on my own work playlist until Sunday and then have a clear out and add newer tracks to bring Jan in. Some like Sam Fender and Sam Smith might survive as they are seasonal!

Mariah is doing better on streaming currently however, so she'll remain #1 unless there is a Wham sales push.

Fairly sure they'd be the Tuesday midweeks? I'm not sure an update is compiled at all on bank holidays (in past instances these OCC updates have definitely matched up with our outside source's Tuesday mids).

You seem to have a real issue with Kylie’s sales being posted each week - move along if they don’t interest you, they are posted on various Kylie forums and then copied on to here hence it being the only information available.

Surely the chart will be packed with xmas songs still by Friday as the streams of the normal songs have been quite low all week for whatever reason?

There are 12 versions of it in the Amazon top 80 right now, so even if they're both doing nothing perhaps that could be enough to make up for it if the difference really is 89 copies.

if you wanna help Wham the easiest thing is to buy the song on iTunes, sure there are multiple versions on iTunes, get 10 friends and buy 10 different versions each, and you got 100 sales already

I wouldn’t bother watching the video on YouTube as:
a) you’d need to watch it 1,200 times to get 1 sale
b) streams after midnight tonight won’t count anyway as they’re estimated

A 24 hour downloading spree would work though! Can’t see much evidence of it rising on ITunes so far.

Mariah Carey has done it. And now Wham! could be about to repeat her trick of taking a Christmas classic to No.1.

Last Christmas (Sony CG) could finally reach a new peak at the top of the charts on Friday (January 1). The single (actually a double A-side with Everything She Wants) by George Michael and Andrew Ridgeley was famously held off the top spot by Band Aid for five weeks during December 1984.

In the Midweek sales flash, the beloved ’80s pop duo were just 89 sales behind Mariah Carey, who was on 34,888 by the end of Tuesday (Official Charts Company).

All I Want For Christmas Is You is attempting a return to the summit after LadBaby usurped Carey’s hit on Christmas Day. Carey’s festive favourite has already earned two weeks at No.1 and is chasing a third non-consecutive week at the top.

Crucially, though, Wham! have sales momentum. As festive streaming continues in late December, Last Christmas’ sales were up 11.2% week-on-week compared to 4.5% for Mariah Carey by the end of Tuesday. Wham! could now have pulled ahead of their chart rival.

Wham!’s last No.1 single was The Edge Of Heaven in 1986. The duo had four No.1s between 1984 and 1986.


Last Christmas has so far spent eight non-consecutive weeks at No.2 since 1984.

35k is more than expected for Mariah and Wham! actually. They should definitely be safe from being overtaken by any non Christmas songs then.

Even though the gap was only 89 I can't see how Wham! will do it without some sort of download campaign, as the figures added since then will be a) very small and b) in Mariah's favour.

I've downloaded the Pudding Mix, as I have the original a million times over. I'm sure it will make no difference and that the gap probably widened a lot since those initial mids, but I'd love to see Wham! finally get there. I doubt there'll be much more than a few hundred copies in it, so I'd definitely urge anyone who wants to see them have a shot to download it today.

Just went on iTunes to buy Wham as amazon wouldn't let me & noticed Kylie x Dua Lipa's "Real Groove Studio 2054" was number 2 on there, released today.

Thursday releases give you visibility cos no one is releasing and sales are the lowest of the week
but only makes sense if the Friday has a very heavy schedule

nothing that's gonna be big on iTunes is released tomorrow, so they should have waited imho

I don't think it ever makes sense for "fanbase acts"? They are never going to gain those lost sales for the following week. Release day is always the busiest sales day. (On streaming it might be different)

Yep. Madonna does the same thing. So annoying. That day of wasted sales can make the difference between being #85 and being #58 (which might sound pathetic but I don’t care tongue.gif)

If Wham miss out by a few sales due to the lack of information from the UK Chart company that will be a disgrace. We should be better informed to know how close this race actually is today.

All I Want For Christmas Is You is attempting a return to the summit after LadBaby usurped Carey’s hit on Christmas Day. Carey’s festive favourite has already earned two weeks at No.1 and is chasing a third non-consecutive week at the top.

Crucially, though, Wham! have sales momentum. As festive streaming continues in late December, Last Christmas’ sales were up 11.2% week-on-week compared to 4.5% for Mariah Carey by the end of Tuesday. Wham! could now have pulled ahead of their chart rival.

Wham!’s last No.1 single was The Edge Of Heaven in 1986. The duo had four No.1s between 1984 and 1986.

Last Christmas has so far spent eight non-consecutive weeks at No.2 since 1984.

And there's a vintage feel to the albums chart, too. Michael Buble's 2011 LP Christmas is ahead of Taylor Swift's Evermore in the battle for the year-end No.1. It would be the first time that Buble's festive collection has reached the summit since its initial release nine years ago.

Sales for Michael Buble's Christmas (Warner Records) have now topped 3.1 million.

Considering Mariah's streams aren't that far ahead, especially consdering both are on ACR, Wham! could easily beat her through their higher downloads. A couple hundred downloads is all it would take to get Wham! ahead of her. And considering they have 10+ versions charting on amazon it looks like they could do it! cheer.gif

I fail to see how it’s more depressing than a non Christmas songs getting there. Plus if Last Christmas does make it after waiting 36 years, that doesn’t seem depressing to me.

Wham! have been slowly eating away at Mariah's slender lead through the week, barring any irregularities with the 'estimated' SES for Thursday (we looking at you OCC!) they should against all expectations take the number 1.
