BuzzJack Music Forum _ Kylie and Dannii Minogue _ Impossible Princess: Best Single

Posted by: pippa 16th July 2018, 01:48 PM

It is almost 20 years since Kylie presented what is likely referred to as her most diverse and different album to date. It is also the album Kylie needed to make career and personally.
It was the album where Kylie got to show of her writing skills, she sought further credibility within the music industry which I believe she successfully did.
While it is seen as her least successful album commercially, it is loved in large by her fans.

Which single do you like the most and like in the previous polls please feel free to comment.

Aren't we missing an album? tongue.gif

Yes, i forgot myself and by-passed KM94.
I will do that one next week.

Breathe is a runaway vote in this album for myself. One of Kylie's most under-rated singles ever but one of my ultimate Kylie singles.
I also have great affection for Some Kind Of Bliss too and listen to it alot.
Did It Again, (excellent video) but as a song i rarely listen to it.

Breathe truly deserved to be a smash hit and it has aged brilliantly and it still sounds fresh today.

Love all of them but Breathe wub.gif Glad Kylie has love for this track too and sings it at her shows.

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 17th July 2018, 12:24 AM

No surprise I voted breathe. Always a huge fan of it.

Posted by: Red Blooded Man 17th July 2018, 09:28 AM

It has to be Breathe!

Posted by: Tawdry Hepburn 17th July 2018, 09:29 AM

'Did It Again' for me is the one. In my top 6 Kylie songs.

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 17th July 2018, 10:20 AM

It's such a shame all these singles didn't do better. At the time I remember breathe was so hard to get on cd here in Ireland especially where I live in the west, luckily a friend of mine was going to Dublin and they got it for me and I remember hating the cover sleeve when it came!!! but adored the song

Posted by: pippa 17th July 2018, 01:40 PM

I am not welcoming the close race between the sublime Breathe and Did It Again.
I would have preferred Some Kind Of Bliss to have the votes of Did It Again.

For next week i will go back a step and do the poll for the KM94 album.
I also thought i may do a poll on either best single from Dannii's Love and Kisses album or...
A poll on the best Dannii album, which would you guys prefer?

I love 'Did It Again' and 'Breathe'. As singles, I think 'Did It Again' is the catchier of the two. Not saying it's the better song. Just the better single choice.

'Some Kind Of Bliss' is one of my least favourite Kylie singles. It sounds too much like the Manic Street Preachers for my tastes. To me, they were a bit of a dad band.

Can't win 'em all!

Posted by: pippa 17th July 2018, 02:10 PM

True, although i would like too!
I do understand the variation of opinions on Some Kind Of Bliss.
I think the big problem when it was released was it was so different and possibly too different for Kylie and her fans.
That said, it was instant with me, i knew from the reports, Kylie was going to do something totally different and it didn't disappoint.

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 18th July 2018, 12:35 AM

I have always liked some kind of bliss but I also liked the manic st preachers around that time and the link in sound was obvious. It was def s grower of a song and at the time I was so disappointed with its chart position as it was her first to miss the top 20, in the first midweeks it was top 20 that week but it slipped through the week.

Posted by: ___∆___ 18th July 2018, 12:50 AM

^^ I remember being devestated at the time that SKOB missed the Top 20 and ended her run of consecutive Top 20s, now I’m happy if she manages the Top 100 laugh.gif

I feel the same and when dancing went top 40 it felt like I used to feel when Kylie got a number 1 single.

Posted by: pippa 18th July 2018, 02:57 PM

Dancing going Top 40 felt like a huge achievement.
I guess the fact it had almost made the Top 40 on 2 prior occasions but failed made it even better on the week it managed it.

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 18th July 2018, 11:48 PM

Ya there was a few times I thought it would never happen for dancing. All three singles from IP are the only singles from Kylie that I don't know where they charted or if they did here in Ireland. from what I know Ireland only did a top 50 at the time and I think all 3 failed to chart. On the off chance I contacted Irish charts.ie a long time ago to see if they had a record but they never replied which is what I thought would happen.

‘Dancing’ going Top 40 was a major achievement - I really didn’t think it was going to happen after it had spent weeks going up and down. Love that BMG got behind her making the Top 40 too and released the 99p EP to help!

How did Impossible Princess perform in the Irish Chart?

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 20th July 2018, 12:01 AM

Number 22 peak from what I know.

Posted by: pippa 20th July 2018, 02:54 PM

Outside Australia it by large failed to connect with people at the time of release.

Posted by: Hide&Seek 20th July 2018, 11:46 PM

I vote for Breathe. I'm surprised to read here that it doesn't seem to have charted in Ireland. I remember she performed it on Irish tv, but it mustn't have made a difference sad.gif

Not fussed on the other two singles.
It took forever for Impossible Princess to grow on me. That indie sound just doesn't do it for me, so that cd should think itself lucky if it is played once a yr.

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 21st July 2018, 02:02 PM

Ya I've searched and searched and I can get no info on the Irish chart performance of the singles, while I track the Irish charts for a good few years now I didn't back then.

Posted by: ___∆___ 23rd July 2018, 12:56 AM

One of my most listened to Kylie albums - still listen to it all the time, I remember Breathe and DIA being huge in the clubs at the time and the whole album brings back so many memories.

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 23rd July 2018, 01:34 AM

At the time I remember the breathe remixes going down well in clubs and some of my mates who weren't Kylie fans half liking them which was good as usually they would be like how do like Kylie.

Posted by: ___∆___ 11th August 2018, 09:46 AM

I wonder if the album would have been commercially more successful if they had gone with the Kylie or Steve Anderson choices as the lead single? Kylie wanted Limbo (Which ended up as a B-side) and Steve wanted Too Far or Jump. I’m not sure any of them would have set the charts alight or performed better than SKOB?

Posted by: Tawdry Hepburn 11th August 2018, 10:18 AM

I can't even see those working as singles, let alone lead singles. They're fantastic album tracks though.

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 11th August 2018, 12:09 PM

I think limbo might have been a good lead single, I do love some kind of bliss but limbo would have been possibly catcher to the bigger audience.

Posted by: Michael Andrew 11th August 2018, 01:53 PM

'Limbo' would've been an interesting single.

To me, there are definite similarities to Prodigy's 'Firestarter', which was a huge smash a year earlier.

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 11th August 2018, 02:03 PM

Yes there is a similarity and it could have paved the way for some serious remixes.I love breathe as it is but it was Def one of her songs that would have worked with a great dance remix, I found some of remixes on the cd singles disappointing.A good dance remix may have sold better as it was a popular sound back then. Sometimes I do think kylie should have tried a good dance album but again some songs from golden could be turned into great dance numbers.

Posted by: slowdown73 12th August 2018, 11:07 AM

Best single was breathe. I love it!

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 13th August 2018, 06:02 PM

I def agree but its still a shame it didnt do better in the charts. Its good that Kylie has started to pay it attention again.

Posted by: pippa 14th August 2018, 01:33 PM

Kylie is showing signs that she has reconnected with the song again by adding it to the tour list.
