Think Blondie will have their 1st top ten album since No Exit in 1999
Posted by: Mart!n 6th May 2017, 12:16 PM
I think Kasabian have a good chance to take the #1 album on Friday, considering Gorillaz did well on sales of 44.4k for a #2 album, probably the week after Ed Sheeran will reclaim it.
I haven't bought Blondie's album yet as I have all their albums on CD, I just feel her voice is not what it used to be, but they do churn out some great albums still.
Posted by: liamk97 6th May 2017, 12:38 PM
Kasabian's previous album, 48:13, from June 2014 debuted with 70k, which was a drop of ~20k from the album before in 2011, so ~50k seems in line with what they'll sell this week. I should think that'll just be enough to overtake Ed Sheeran.
So far, it seems like Blondie will be the second highest new entry; fingers crossed they can manage 6k or so to make the Top 10. Their last album shifted about 4k, which was boosted by a re-recorded Greatest Hits attached to it, but it seems the promo has been much stronger, as has their Radio 2 support, this time around.
Ed probably will reclaim the top spot the following week - I don't think Paramore have been on pre-order long enough or will gather enough sales to get there, given Ed could still be on 40k+, and I doubt Paul Weller will manage much more than 20k-25k either.

Are you suggesting that Harry Styles will be outside the Top 3?
Posted by: Scene 6th May 2017, 02:06 PM
That doesn't even look like Niall on his single cover.
Posted by: 360Jupiter 6th May 2017, 03:22 PM
Can't believe I thought Niall was a natural blonde all these years.
His new track is much better than I was expecting - much better than the last one. Maybe a top 10er at some point.
Posted by: Scene 6th May 2017, 07:55 PM
Yeah I was pleasantly surprised too. I was expecting another This Town tbh. It's a great lead.

Completely overlooked Harry tbh! He'll be a contender too but, given Zayn managed about 22k, it might be a bit of a stretch for Harry to double those sales.
Posted by: girl_from_oz 6th May 2017, 10:40 PM
Paramore are ahead of Harry Styles on Amazon Pre-Orders at the moment
Posted by: John-James 6th May 2017, 10:50 PM
I think Paramore and Harry with sell similar amounts tbh, 25-30k is my bet with Ed still comfortably at #1
Posted by: Jonjo 6th May 2017, 10:51 PM
I can see Harry being much more of an albums artist than Zayn. He'll do double (give or take) what Zayn did 1st week I think. But then again, I thought his single would open up much bigger than what it eventually did though, so... I don't know! Definitely between Harry & Paramore that week anyway.
Blondie should get a safe top 5 with this album. Kasabian have number 1 more or less on lock I think. They deserve far less for that dreadful, DREADFUL artwork though!
Posted by: cqmerqn 6th May 2017, 10:51 PM
My guesses are Paramore 30k and Harry 20k
Posted by: liamk97 6th May 2017, 10:53 PM
I can see Harry opening with more than Zayn for sure but I'm just unsure he'll manage to double the figures and I can see Ed still shifting comfortably over 40k next week. I'm quite sure he'll have much better longevity though.

The majority of Harry's biggest fans would have pre-ordered the album directly through his website as it gave them pre-sale codes for his tour (which sold out in seconds). It will hopefully be given a boost by the Sign of the Times music video coming out on Monday too.

Wellers last album sold 26k and the one before that 30k, with strong radio 2 support and a very loyal fan base this should hold up.

I think Harry might do a fair bit more than some of you are expecting. I can see around 35 - 45k being sold.

Well, I'm excited for
this week's chart because the result of the number 1 single battle is unknown. I think Despacito will win, but most of the people thinks I'm The One will remain number 1 for another week.

Despacito is #1! I prefer ITO but it's amazing to see a primarily foreign language song at #1, something we don't have often.

Nice to see a different #1 again, but I don't think it will stay there too long, I have a feeling something else will drop between now and June for the summer. Plus I don't know how the British Public react to a Spanish #1

Well clearly there's a good reaction or the song wouldn't be going to #1
I think it'll spend a few weeks at #1 but agree that there's probably something big set to drop soon.
Hopefully this doing so well means they try and push some other Spanish language jams like 'Chantaje' by Shakira and 'Me Rehúso' by Danny Ocean.

It depends what you define as a hit to be honest as arguably Niall has had 1 and you're dismissing his second single after just a week!! also ZAYN has had longer time to his 2 hits. In fact he's released a few singles with only 2 reaching the top 10 - his debut and one backed by a movie.

Mel C came close but never got the same amount of no.1s.

So much for I'm The One being number 1 until September like I thought! Unlucky timing I guess, I'm very glad though as Despacito is miles better (the Bieber-less version is wayyyy better, but if it's him that can make foreign language songs get more notice here, then that's all good).

Mel C may have had less number 1's than Geri but i would believe she has sold more records, in large her debut solo album would account for alot of this as it was a big seller.

I do think now is the time for Shakira and Enrique to capitalise with Spanglish versions of their big current hits. They're well known over here and just need to update their featuring artist to make them hits here.
Posted by: Jonjo 9th May 2017, 07:49 AM
I don't care that it's a couple of years old, but Enrique's 'Bailandos' always sounded like a smash to me! Especially the Matoma remix!
But maybe it's time to just push 'Duele El Corazon' feat. Tinashe instead...

Shakira should re-release La Tortura, which was huge years ago, even top 20 in the US I think, one of the best Latin tracks ever... in recent years she's also got great singles like Loca, Chantaje or La Bicicleta, the latter was the song of the summer in 2016
Posted by: M4NG0 9th May 2017, 08:12 AM
I love how just because a Latin song gets to #1 people think Enrique and Shakira are going to start having hits again I mean it would be nice but I think this is just going to be a flash in the pan Latin #1, I can't see the genre having any resurgence in the UK.

Please someone to correct "Rockers Slowdive", it's "Slowdive"!

Despacito for number one, although I wouldn't mind seeing DJ Khaled get a few weeks on top.

LOL no. La Tortura is 12 years old.
I think the only way of getting another Latin hit in English speaking countries is if Shakira could release Chantaje feat. Drake [or insert any popular male artist here]
. That was the Latin worldwide hit just before Despacito.

El Taxi is another Latin banger that was huge when I backpacked across Central America. Also El Perdon is another great one.

I don't think anybody is saying this
we just think it'd be nice if they could get hits on the level of 'Despacito' coz ioo they're better
that's all really lol. We know they won't get hits with their foreign singles!

I love Viven
Subeme La Radio is a flawless pop bop too, I love a bit of Enrique!

Think that the only songs that could realistically get pushed here are Me Rehúso by Danny Ocean and SUBEME LA RADIO by Enrique. Obviously with a feature, but I'm sure Sean Paul would happily shove a few lines on there.

There's already an English version of Me Rehúso out there, titled Baby I Won't (though that version has significantly less streams than the original), wouldn't surprise me if Sean Paul or someone does a remix of the English version and that gets pushed.

Luis Fonsi for #1 than, I think his lead will only increase.
I also think the top 5 albums are pretty much set in stone, pretty much impressed with Blondie's position, I was expecting it much lower than that.

I personally can't see that happening because;

2) Sweet Creature has pretty much done p**s all tbh, so I can't see him being too much of a streaming force.

In the context of "all of One Direction's singles were immediate #1s or top 3s so the solo things also have to be" bracket that the press will measure them by it probably is. See also the Spice Girls' immediate solo efforts 15 years ago.
But taken on its own merits Niall has actually turned out some decent singles so far. And I'm not even a 1D fan! Once a video and some promo is out in the ether it will improve, provided it's not lost in a backwash of Harry and Liam releases.
Posted by: danG 10th May 2017, 03:15 PM
It's much more difficult to get a top 3 single now than it was when the Solo Spices released. Although, if this Niall single misses the top 20, which is looking increasingly likely, then I would call that a flop.

I agree it's ridiculous, but for a band of 1D's stature the press will naturally criticise them more for not reaching the usual heights expected. Now we're getting closer to the last member coming out with solo stuff the negative spin and general backlash that replaces the initial excitement that greeted their first efforts outside the group will start to creep in.
I've said this over on the "Who's the best solo so far" thread but I believe Niall will be the secret weapon success wise. The least has been expected of him and he's still the most relatable of them and so far I think he's bought out two really great singles. I mean this in the nicest possible way when I say he is the Emma Bunton of 1D!

Rock Me Amadeus's title and hook are in English anyway, unless my German's not up to scuff and 'Rock Me' is also a German phrase...
"Rock me" is a German phrase in as much as it's how a native German speaker would say that.

Harry Styles will probably peak at #1 or #2 next week with sales of over 54k and Paramore will be slightly behind with 35-40k
