What are your thoughts about it? My first thought was is this government for real? Abolishing the limit people can put into a pension over a lifetime. This policy is likely to benefit only those on very high incomes but what about more targeted measures for those really struggling right now? Energy costs are also still going to rise due to the additional payments being stopped. I’ve not seen much in this budget that will help every day people.

A change to the Lifetime Allowance had been trailed in advance. Even raising it significantly would have been relevant only to a fairly small minority. Abolishing the limit altogether will only benefit the very rich (like the PM and Chancellor).

Well that’s what this government seems to be about…protecting and allowing the rich to prosper but doing sweet FA to everyone else!

I understand there was an argument that it needed to be raised because consultants in the NHS were retiring early due to the consequences of it and it’s a move to shore up the ability of the NHS to retain specialists later in their career.


But the abolishment serves to primarily benefit the City and no one else. They could have exempted anyone working for the NHS for at least 30 years from the requirements if it was such an issue, but the Tories will only truly ever look out for the 0,001%


The reduction in the top rate band is welcomed, interesting to see if Scotland then takes advantage of that to the same without Dougie fifty-job Ross screeching about Scotland being the highest taxed part of the uk (although the rates are only 1% higher in Scotland, the 41% band starts much lower. However on the flip side very few people in Scotland earn these wages and actually benefit from a 19% starter rate that rUK lacks)
