77-year-old German legend Udo Lindenberg and hugely successful rapper Apache 207 have just chalked up their 18th week at No.1 in Germany, smashing the all-time record of 17 weeks previously held by Despacito and Rivers of Babylon with their collaboration Komet.

I only heard this track earlier this month after being intrigued when hearing about its record-breaking run - the song was originally released in January - and I really like it and have played it a lot since.

It's like a fusion of radio MOR pop, rock, R&B and hip-hop. Super radio friendly, a big chorus, an air guitar outro, a marketable story of somebody so late in their career getting their first No.1, I can see why it has appeal to both young and old listeners and has done so well.

Makes 55-year-old Kylie look like she's in the first flush of youth with her recent top 10 success here.

Heard this last week. Very impressive historic record that. I wonder how much longer it'll go on for and the song whilst it doesn't blow me away is pleasant enough.

Kind of wish it was Friesenjung that had stayed at #1 for this long kink.gif but this is a nice enough track. Very impressive to have racked up so many weeks

True, Friesenjung is a banger. A similarly odd collaboration!

Also while checking the German charts I noticed how pretty much the whole top ten is German language songs, the international stars are barely getting a look in there now. Its broken up by a dance version of Lily Allen’s Not Fair at No.10, which I didn’t expect to hear today!

Apache 207 is such a legend. He could probably sell out a stadium tour in Germany, he’s just at the peak of his popularity.

I entered Roller into BJSC and still prefer that to this but this is fun!

And yes Rich, it’s so nice to see so many German artists and so much German language in the top of the charts! Now only if they’d embrace German at Eurovision

Roller was a definite tune too. Loved that.

Yeah there's a real disconnect. The singles charts are full of modern German rap/hip-hop, R&B, pop and dance. The album charts are stacked with schlager. So at Eurovision we get neither, but instead some English language MOR radio fluff that nobody is listening to. German entries are about as unrepresentative of the country's music industry as the UK's entries usually are and it's a real shame.
