Of the other available songs that did not make the final cut for this volume, one was a UK #1 single and this was Thrift Shop which was the debut single by Macklemore. Along with this, there were omissions from Justin Timberlake, Baauer, David Bowie, 50 Cent, Amelia Lily, Ed Sheeran and David Guetta along with a host of other artists. Also, it is worth pointing out that with double appearances on this volume from One Direction, P!nk, Disclosure and Gabrielle Aplin, it was unlikely that there would also be a double appearance for the likes of Olly Murs, Little Mix, Rita Ora, Lawson, Bruno Mars or Rihanna who all had other hits in this era. This was the only volume to feature music from Bridget Mendler, Gabrielle Aplin, Bingo Players, Ben Howard, The Lumineers, Fleetwood Mac and The Justice Collective. Artwork Rating: 2/10 Awful If it werent for playing my The Worst Now Artwork Ever card earlier in the series I would certainly have saved it for this one. I mean, if their target audience for this volume was for children then Id say it was ok at best, but this is a compilation of various genres including harder genres like rock, rap, grime and drum & bass, so the idea of sticking loads of bunny rabbits on the cover to sell the volume is the cheapest tactic ever used by the design team in the whole series. Its cheap, childish and off-putting and its just a poor on so many levels. Utterly awful. Disc 1 Favourite: Bastille Pompeii The song that got me into Bastille, and it wasnt actually a favourite of mine at the time, but I think as Ive listened to much more music from Bastille over the years I have come to appreciate this single more. A great inclusion to this otherwise unimpressive disc. Disc 2 Favourite: Avicii vs. Nicky Romero I Could Be The One An easy choice really. The first #1 single by Avicii was a good one and despite it not being his most universally recognised single, it certainly hasnt aged badly and it is still a great song to have on any electronic music playlist. Disc 3 Tracklist: (A concept of what a third disc might look like if other hits from the era were used) 1. Macklemore & Ryan Lewis feat. Wanz Thrift Shop 3:55 {1} 2. 50 Cent feat. Eminem & Adam Levine My Life 3:59 {2} 3. Justin Timberlake feat. Jay-Z Suit & Tie 5:26 {3} 4. Rita Ora Shine Ya Light 3:30 {10} 5. Little Mix Change Your Life 3:21 {12} 6. One Direction Kiss You 3:02 {9} 7. Olly Murs Army Of Two 3:45 {12} 8. Lawson Learn To Love Again 3:25 {13} 9. David Guetta feat. Taped Rai Just One Last Time 3:48 {20} 10. Zedd feat. Foxes Clarity 4:31 {29} 11. Matrix & Futurebound feat. Baby Blue Magnetic Eyes 3:31 {24} 12. Droideka Get Hyper 2:17 {29} 13. DJ Fresh Gold Dust (Shy FX Re-Edit) 3:02 {22} 14. One Pound Fish Man One Pound Fish 2:27 {28} 15. Baauer Harlem Shake 3:16 {3} 16. Vato Gonzalez vs. Lethal Bizzle & Danaeo Not A Saint 2:30 {20} 17. Flo Rida Let It Roll 3:14 {17} 18. Ne-Yo Forever Now 3:41 {31} 19. Amelia Lily Shut Up (And Give Me Whatever You Got) 2:24 {11} 20. Jake Bugg Lightning Bolt 3:58 {26} 21. Foals My Number 4:09 {23} 22. David Bowie Where Are We Now? 4:00 {6} 23. Bruno Mars When I Was Your Man 3:33 {2} ---------- Total time: 1:19:56 Overall Rating: 3/10 Extremely Poor There is just so much wrong with this volume, from the abysmal artwork to the overly edited versions of tracks from Dizzee Rascal and will.i.am. The longevity of this volume was short as the majority of tracks get little or no airplay today and have been forgotten. This was a poor era of music in general, and despite no songs on this volume peaking below #18, it would have been a good idea to reach a little lower down the charts for better quality music as what is on this volume is not what I call music. Andrew's Best 5 (as of May 2018) 1. Avicii vs. Nicky Romero I Could Be The One 2. Calvin Harris feat. Tinie Tempah Drinking From The Bottle 3. Disclosure feat. AlunaGeorge White Noise 4. Bastille Pompeii 5. Disclosure feat. Sam Smith Latch Andrew's Worst 5 (as of May 2018) 1. Dizzee Rascal Bassline Junkie 2. Bridget Mendler Ready Or Not 3. Devlin feat. Diane Birch Rewind 4. Fleetwood Mac Everywhere 5. James Arthur Impossible This post has been edited by awardinary: 15th May 2018, 01:26 PM |

I've been reading these but need to catch up with the comments! anyway..
this is a rather bleh edition then, well there are at least a few great songs to save it disc 1 top 10: 1 Latch [such a great breakthrough for Disclosure, I'd kinda heard of them before but was really surprised to see this suddenly become a hit, really deserved though, shame what became of the featured artist...] 2 Diamonds [one of her best, perhaps her greatest out of her mid tempos, which are quite hit and miss] 3 Pompeii [great to see this become a modern day indie anthem, deserves it and they never got near to topping this] 4 Scream & Shout [so trashy but it's a jam] 5 Girl On Fire [prefer it with Nicki but I'll take the solo version too, her best for me] 6 Impossible [odd that I like this but dislike pretty much everything else he's done, but it brings back memories of X-Factor being great to watch] 7 I Knew You Were Trouble [ahh back when Taylor was kinda good, even if she did kill dubstep with this] 8 Radioactive [shame this seems to be completely forgotten in Rita's discography, it ain't her best but it deserved more than say Shine Yer Light] 9 What About Us [good that this finally got The Sats a number one, they'd have been really unlucky to never have got one and it's one of their good songs too] 10 Die Young [says a lot that this is in my top ten, it's okay but I haven't gone out of my way to listen to it] disc 2 top 10: 1 I Could Be The One [absolutely LERV this!!! one of Avicii's best and I was so happy to see it enter at #1] 2 White Noise [yess for double Disclosure another top tune of theirs] 3 Drinking From The Bottle [standard Calvin banger, that's good for me!] 4 Get Up (Rattle) [better without that vocal but still bangs and at least we got the music video with the ducks from it *.*] 5 Don't Stop The Party [gotta love a bit of Pit over a banging house beat] 6 Bassline Junkie [now this was, ahem, bonkers!] 7 Everywhere [good sang, and we gotta play the pony advert on plug too *.*] 8 Not Giving In [decent follow-up but Feel the Love puts this to shame] 9 My Songs Know What You Did... [the last good song FOB ever did] 10 Reload [well it was good to see Wiley still getting hits, this wasn't quite as great as Heatwave and Can You Hear Me though] bottom 5: 1 Just Give Me A Reason [Omg Screech They played it in the supermarket yesterday n I didn't reaρise at first What it was as wasn't payin attention n I said to the cashier What kind of utter aqful vocal hell garbage is this!! It was Screeeech!! What a fookin peel of radio caρσn fodder slosh snot Screech tryna be Adele!! Even thinkin aboot how my eara were polluted like that with that comercial Adele wannabe Screech, I just can't!] 2 One Way Or Another (Teenage Kicks) [way to maul a song, no one asked for this] 3 Ready Or Not [annoying and way too Disney for my liking] 4 Clown [booooooring] 5 He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother [good cause and all but lawd this was a dire cover version] "shoutout" also to Lawson for being beige as ever, One Direction again with some of Ed Sheeran's corniest writing, and Ho Hey, which isn't that bad but really got on my nerves from refusing to ever leave the chart. quite a few good songs on Disc 3 as ever, shame Macklemore didn't license Thrift Shop for this edition. Would've liked to see Zedd here too with the brilliant 'Clarity' and Baauer just to document the short-lived phenomenon that was 'Harlem Shake'. I must've blanked that cover art from my memory, I didn't remember it being that awful. No thanks to CGI bunnies. |

Disc One
1. Bastille Pompeii 3:34 {2} 2. James Arthur Impossible 3:27 {1} 3. P!nk feat. Nate Russ Just Give Me A Reason 4:03 {4} 4. Disclosure feat. Sam Smith Latch 4:16 {11} 5. Bruno Mars Locked Out Of Heaven 3:54 {2} 6. Taylor Swift I Knew You Were Trouble 3:38 {2} 7. will.i.am feat. Britney Spears Scream & Shout 4:12 {1} 8. Olly Murs feat. Flo Rida Troublemaker 3:04 {1} Disc Two 1. Avicii vs. Nicky Romero I Could Be The One 3:29 {1} 2. Fall Out Boy My Songs Know What You Did In The Dark (Light Em Up) 3:08 {5} 3. Bingo Players feat. Far East Movement Get Up (Rattle) 2:47 {1} 4. The Lumineers Ho Hey 2:42 {8} 5. Disclosure feat. AlunaGeorge White Noise 3:37 {2} 6. Rudimental feat. John Newman & Alex Clare Not Giving In 3:38 {14} 7. Dizzee Rascal Bassline Junkie 3:23 {10} 8. Calvin Harris feat. Tinie Tempah Drinking From The Bottle 4:00 {5} Artwork: 7/10 Fairly dull and a non-event of an artwork. Overall: 8/10 Despite the crappy artwork this is a really great Now album from a really great era of music. The end of 2012 and the beginning of 2013 was full of so many amazing songs, many of which have become favourite songs of mine over the years for good reason. Pompeii is in my Top 5 all time favourite singles, and I Could Be The One is brilliant. Thrift Shop, My Life, Suit & Tie, Army Of Two, Just One Last Time, Clarity, When I Was Your Man, Stay, If You Could See Me Now, Started From The Bottom, Six Degrees Of Separation, Right Now, Hear Me, and Now are all great songs that would've been nice inclusions. The first 5 there especially, Army Of Two is my favourite Olly Murs song and the rest are just 11/10's |

Went for Pink on both discs, naturally.
Just a couple of notes though. Just give Me A Reason peaked at no.2 not no.4. And there is at least one other artist to have a double appearance on their only Now-Artful Dodger on Now 45. |

T Boy thank you for pointing this out, Im surprised with Artful Dodger that despite having many other hits only the first couple were on the series. I am glad you spotted this, please continue to correct me if ever something doesnt look right! |
