Sunday Chart Predictions
Predicting the 25/01 to 31/01 chart

Mark to go downtown and minesweep FOB's #1?
Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars are heading for a 6th non-consecutive week at #1 this week - a feat last achieved by Rihanna's 'We Found Love' in late 2011. Meghan Trainor may not be too far behind though as 'Lips Are Movin'', her follow-up to 'All About That Bass', is released this week and seems to have at least #2 on lock. Elsewhere in the chart, Avicii's 'The Nights' and Sia's 'Elastic Heart' may climb into the Top 10.

In complete contrast to the year so far, this week's album chart is looking to be mixed up with the release of several new albums. Fighting for the top spot will be Mark Ronson's Uptown Special and Fall Out Boy's American Beauty/American Psycho. Neither have reached #1 with an album before but both are no stranger to the #2 spot - Mark is perhaps more deserving of #1 to avoid a hat-trick of #2s. Other new entries to the Top 10 may be Enter Shikari's The Mindsweep, Belle & Sebastian's Girls in Peacetime Want to Dance and The Waterboys' Modern Blues, whilst, further down the chart, Above & Beyond, The Decemberists, Marilyn Manson and Funeral for a Friend should enter.

Enter Shikari for top 10 cheer.gif hopefully Fall Out Boy should get the #2 spot (assuming they stay ahead of the usual George/Ed/Sam trio)

Posted by: ˇbré! Jan 20 2015, 12:06 AM

I doubt Sam/George/Ed will pass 20k this week so Mark and Fall Out Boy will easily be the top 2 I think. I wouldn't be surprised if Fall Out Boy beat the sales of their last album despite the singles not doing as well, the instant grats seem to have done well at building up the hype with the album being top 50 on iTunes on pre-orders for the last two weeks (even going top 10 for a couple of days). Enter Shikari may have to settle for #6 but I don't think they'll be any lower than that.

Posted by: pippa Jan 20 2015, 12:00 PM

If Mark Ronson can manage yet another week of 100,000 this week or 101,000 he will become a million seller this week.

Posted by: MrIndependent Jan 20 2015, 12:26 PM

I think Ed, George and Sam will all sell more than 20,000. Their Friday and Saturday sales last week were considerably higher than expected and I think that was due to the BRITs nominations being announced; the hype will continue to push sales this week. Fall Out Boy should still manage #2 but Mark Ronson will comfortably have the #1. Enter Shikari will be low top ten.

The singles chart is less interesting. I'd imagine Uptown Funk should have no problem selling another 100,000+.

Posted by: Mart!n Jan 20 2015, 12:34 PM

I think the top 3 albums will be all new, with Enter Shikari at #3 to begin with, once the first update comes thru, the new albums will push Ed and George down to 4 and 5. Its so quiet on twitter I can't even find any mid info just yet. Hopefully we get something soon.

On the singles chart, its going to be so quiet with Meghan been the only new entry, bearing in mind she was #50 last week, Avicii should climb up a couple of places, I can't really see anything else apart from album tracks from Fall Out Boy and Mark Ronson charting in the singles chart.

Jessie J masterpiece 72
Fall Out Boy number 1 in albums

Fall Out Boy need to hang onto that. We don't want Mark Ronson being #1 on both charts

And whats wrong with Mark Ronson being number number on both charts? He deserves it and its a decent song. I can't see the issue.

Same here, its not as if we get double tops every week.

There are also eight new release in the top twelve of the albums chart, and Mark Ronson 'isn't miles behind' Fall Out Boy according to Mint Royale.

That's pushed a load of the old albums down, makes it more easier for me when I come to rip the info out.

Posted by: pippa Jan 20 2015, 01:49 PM

I would have anticipated that Mark Ronson would have just cruised his to the pole position in the album chart. That said, i would be slightly happier to see Fall Out Boy reach the summit. I would predict many of the early new entries will start dropping through out the week.

Posted by: Uptown Froot Jan 20 2015, 02:05 PM

Go away Fall Out Boy. Looking forward to the sales difference as I think Fall Out Boy would be slightly more frontloaded as there will be more fanbase buys.

1998, 1999, 2000 and 2014 were the last years to go without chart doubles. Let's see if 2015 can be the same. At least MR stopped Ed Sheeran from scoring a chart double last year

Posted by: ˇbré! Jan 20 2015, 02:49 PM

Mark Ronson will likely overtake Fall Out Boy by the end of the week if it is close, as there are probably going to be more casual buyers of 'Uptown Special' than 'American Beauty / American Psycho'. Both acts are long overdue a #1 album, shame they had to release on the same week really!

George Ezra down 1-6 in the albums at the moment and some way behind Ed and Sam - but he could still pull an upset again and end up overtaking them. The top 2 albums definitely look safe but Enter Shikari will likely be overtaken.

Dr. Dre's '2001' is the Google Play 99p album of the week.

Expect big changes in the singles chart for tomorrow as we're missing some streaming data today, the current update is basically just a vague guideline.

Posted by: Jonjo Jan 20 2015, 04:01 PM

Mark Ronson's sales just ain't letting up *.* Brilliant. Really want him to get as close to Cher's 100k a week record (thing? Is it a record?) as possible. I know the last couple of weeks of him being over 100k will be the inclusion of streams, but I'm still willing for him to get as close as possible without the streaming inclusions!

Posted by: Hadji Jan 20 2015, 04:04 PM

On Sunday, I hope for Avicii to climb into the top 10, Echosmith to climb into the top 20 and for Idina Menzel to fall out of the top 40. It also looks like the #2 single could pass 100,000 sales

Uptown Funk should be a million seller by the end of the week (with streams added)

Top 3 Albums just what I expected to be honest.

Like last week, the top 5 albums at the least will have respectable sales, the possibility of a general top 10 of respectable sales also looks on course. Fall Out Boy, 2,000 sales lead could be enough to remain number 1.

Posted by: ► ▲ N Jan 20 2015, 04:49 PM

I think that's just exaggerated to get people interested. I'm sure there's no real threat against Mark/Bruno making #1 again.

The Nights fall one place nocheer.gif

I'm starting to worry its deserved top 10 placement will be denied, since it streaming pulled it down last week thinking.gif

So unless SUDDENLY stream boost I predict it will be #7 maybe #6 on sales only, also thinking.gif

I predict Elastic Heart will stretch above Avicii but there is NO HOPE IN HELL of Taylor Sells overtaking it cool2.gif

I don't think #12-15 will overtake it either, so it looks like a #10 placement this week biggrin.gif

I hope it can climb a bit more. If it gets on with radio play, streams etc. biggrin.gif cheer.gif

Considering it was #36 on sales alone, streaming is likely pulling it down, so I'd expect Let It Go's departure. If it stays, well, at least we'll be able to hear Clara give her say on the matter.

Posted by: Mart!n Jan 22 2015, 03:09 PM

Mark Ronson is most likely doing around 14k to 15k per day, I probably estimate his sales at 112k to 115k for the week.

He could still do the double, his album is selling more than FOB yesterday, he could take it by Saturday night close of business.

Björk 5 places ahead of where her last album peaked on just one day of sales (and 100% digital) - pretty impressive even if it is a low sales environment. It was very marginally the highest selling album yesterday, a few copies ahead of Mark Ronson!

The gap between 8 and 9 is very small and catchable.

The gap between 9 and 10 is Rihanna forehead sized.

I think Hozier might sneak the #2, HE is selling quite a bit more than Meghan and still has the Friday/Saturday streaming boost to come.

Not sure how those two are really that comparable kink.gif Wicked Games had much less commercial appeal, and airplay, than Heroes has

Both peaked at 6, and more importantly, both are reworkings of well-known songs (Wicked Games is a reworking of Wicked Game by Chris Isaac, and Heroes (We Could Be) is a reworking of Heroes by David Bowie)

they're 2 completely different songs though, the only similarity is the 'we could be heroes' lyrical idea wacko.gif

Have you even heard the track by David Bowie, it doesn't even sound nothing like it. mellow.gif

I was wondering about this, because I remember laughing at the suggestion that Will.I.Am's 'Bang Bang' had anything to do with the Sonny Bono song and it turned out that they had given him a credit on it. Does anyone know officially what the position is with 'Heroes'?

WHOAH WHOAH WHOAH guys chill smile.gif

I compare Heroes to Outside, to be fair they've had similar runs thinking.gif

Trying to get me to listen to Bowie's Heroes? thinking.gif

Well googled the lyrics anyway and all I really saw slightly similar was the "we could be Heroes, just for one day"

from Wikipedia: "The song's lyrics are partially taken from "'Heroes'" (1977) by David Bowie.[1] The lyrics of each of the stanzas differ entirely from Bowie's. "

OK, well it certainly doesn't look like it's enough to be even partially taken. If a song says "dance all night" and another one says the same words... yes? rolleyes.gif

Any other comparisons? From a quick glance of the lyrics I do not see any, oops mellow.gif

Bowie does indeed have a credit on Alesso's track.

I would imagine that's probably to prevent a lawsuit over the singular line that's similar to the Bowie song laugh.gif

I have actually, and they don't sound similar. However, usually remixes don't sound anything like the original, but they're still reworking of the track!

If Fall Out Boy hold on to the top spot, Will Mark Ronson be the first artist to have 3 consecutive number 2 albums?

No. There are doubtless more but i recall that a-ha had three consecutive back in the 80's.

*quickly unlocks thread to answer question*

Bon Jovi are currently on a run of five consecutive #2 albums, would be a run of eight if 'This Left Feels Right' had peaked two places higher!

*re-locks thread*
