300-291

2.90 291 Westlife Feat Diana Ross - When You Tell Me That You Love Me
2.73 292 Ronan Keating - She Believes (In Me)
2.66 293 Westlife - What Makes A Man
2.57 294 One True Voice - Sacred Trust / After You're Gone
2.54 295 Duncan James & Keedie - I Believe My Heart
2.48 296 Shane Richie - I'm Your Man
2.12 297 Lee Mead – Any Dream Will Do
1.95 298 Jedward feat. Vanilla Ice – Under Pressure (Ice Ice Baby)
1.84 299 4-4-2 - Come On England
1.17 300 Cliff Richard – 21st Century Christmas / Move It!

No big surprises in any of the bottom ten then, which all score averages of less than 3. Not one but two Westlife songs appear, which doesn't surprise me because with one or two exceptions their songs were diabolical and boring. Other boyband fodder appears here too including One True Voice who infamously lost the Christmas chart battle with Girls Aloud, whose song was approximately ∞x better than OTV's.

Ex-boyband members Ronan Keating and Duncan James also are here with boring forgettable songs which make me question what certain people were smoking back in the day.

Shane Richie decided it would be a good idea to cover the Wham classic 'I'm Your Man' for Comic Relief. Spoiler: it wasn't.

Lee Mead won a reality show to decide who would best be the next Joseph in the production of the Lloyd Webber musical. If this was what he could come up with as a single I dread to think how the rest of the contestants sounded. Very weak version of what is otherwise an okay song (by musical standards).

Jedward were eliminated halfway through the 2009 series of X Factor. They still decided to release this laughably awful cover of 'Ice Ice Baby' and even managed to get Vanilla Ice himself on the track (I'm sure he needed the money). They would later represent Ireland in Eurovision since the UK didn't want them anymore.

4-4-2 may be the only band in UK chart history whose name looks like part of a chart run. Alas that is the only interesting thing about them and 'Come On England' is not only an awful football song but ruins an 80s anthem 'Come On Eileen'.

Last place goes to Cliff Richard with his attempt at Christmas #1. Thankfully it in fact missed #1 because it's seriously awful. We'll stick to listening to 'Mistletoe & Wine'.

290-281

3.82 281 50 Cent feat. Eminem & Adam Levine – My Life
3.74 282 JLS – Take A Chance On Me
3.72 283 Ronan Keating & Yusuf - Father And Son
3.72 284 Union J – You Got It All
3.52 285 The Wizard Of Oz Film Cast – Ding-Dong! The Witch Is Dead
3.51 286 Soulja Boy Tell’em – Crank That (Soulja Boy)
3.29 287 Nickelback – Rockstar
3.22 288 Dappy feat. Brian May – Rockstar
3.09 289 Gordon Haskell - How Wonderful You Are
2.95 290 Ronan Keating - I Hope You Dance

Ronan Keating pops up again, twice. Yet that's still not the last we've seen of him. Another #2 selling from the radio 2 moms market from Gordon Haskell also appears, seems like such an odd song to get such a high chart position. Such a bad song too.

Songs titled Rockstar aren't exactly popular on Buzzjack. Two of them both land in this section next to each other. Dappy thought it'd be a good idea to have a rap-rock song but more bizarrely Brian May agreed to playing guitar on it. As for Nickelback the song seems to be very marmite but gathers a lot more hate here, having 13 -1s (but also three 11s).

Soulja Boy Tell'em with his huge US urban hit also got many -1s, eleven of them. I'm one of the few who actually loves the song though, oops ph34r.gif

More boybands drop out, firstly Union J who somehow went to #2 with this dullfest but left the chart just as fast as it came. It would be their last hit single too as infamously they got dropped and one of the members left the band.

JLS also here with what looks like an ABBA cover from its title but is actually just a very boring original song back from when they were still relevant enough to be going top 2 with anything they released pre-album.

50 Cent tried to get his first #1 with 'My Life' but ultimately just missed out and had a very poor chart run. It's not too good of a song either which may explain it. Fiddy appears again later in the countdown with the much better 'Ayo Technology'.

And The Wizard Of Oz Cast, yep that happened. You all know the story.

Rockstar is truly the worst song I have ever heard.

Posted by: Dobbo May 28 2016, 05:18 PM

Poor Rockstar(s) sad.gif don't get why the Nickelback song is hated to such extent it's a tune IMO.

280-271

4.24 271 Robbie Williams & Gary Barlow – Shame
4.24 272 Gary Barlow – Let Me Go
4.21 273 Chipmunk feat. Chris Brown – Champion
4.20 274 Blue - Guilty
4.19 275 Westlife – What About Now
4.11 276 McFly – One For The Radio
4.08 277 Blazin' Squad - Flip Reverse
4.05 278 Shaggy & Ali G - Me Julie
3.91 279 James Arthur - You’re Nobody ‘Til Somebody Loves You
3.83 280 Fast Food Rockers - Fast Food Song

Fast Food Rockers had a very big novelty song, which alongside The Cheeky Girls were big tunes for me at the time (I was like 6 okay ph34r.gif). Whilst it's not technically a good song I'll probably always have somewhat of a liking for it.

James Arthur, yep people forgot about him quickly but he actually did have a hit after 'Impossible'. Though it didn't spent very long in the chart and wasn't well received by the majority. I don't miss him to be honest.

Some blegh urban songs drop out here including 'Champion' which was really annoying at the time mostly because of Chris Brown's whining.

Westlife with what may as well be a poor X Factor winning single also exit. 'What About Now' would be their final #2 hit single, but not their final 'number two' in terms of quality.

McFly really had some awful songs in the mid 00s, more than they did tolerable ones anyway. One of the truly awful ones drops out as fast as it did out of the top 40.

Gary Barlow has two of his songs next to each other, one of them with Robbie Williams and the other with Mumford & Sons (not actually).

I love Fast Food Song heart.gif Everything else is awful so far!

Me Julie & Flip Reverse are both certified bangas.

Posted by: Chez Wombat May 28 2016, 06:15 PM

I have a bit of a weakness for Fast Food Rockers & The Cheeky Girls, same with Las Ketchup, mid 00s novelty will always be quite close to my heart cos of the memories *.

No great losses so far though.

270-261

4.69 261 U2 & Green Day – The Saints Are Coming
4.67 262 Jonas Blue feat. Dakota - Fast Car
4.59 263 Flo Rida – Whistle
4.51 264 Willow – Whip My Hair
4.51 265 Busted - Air Hostess
4.47 266 LunchMoney Lewis - Bills
4.43 267 will.i.am feat. Justin Bieber - #thatPOWER
4.40 268 Geraldine – The Winner’s Song
4.38 269 Loick Essien feat. Tanya Lacey – How We Roll
4.38 270 The Vamps – Last Night

The Vamps had a number of top 3 hits of which 'Last Night' was one of them. Fortunately it didn't make #1 and most of you agree that this is the worse of The Vamps' #2 hits.

Loick Essien is perhaps one of the most forgotten #2 hits of the decade. It was equally surprising at the time as it was with hindsight that he went as high as #2. I very much liked the song though, clearly moreso than most of Buzzjack.

Geraldine was the winner of a 'reality TV' show, the difference being it was a staged show by Peter Kay (who played as Geraldine). The fakeness didn't stop people buying the winning single though and it made #2. It's not that great of a song though which was probably the intention.

will.i.am decided that putting a hashtag on his single was a good idea, I still don't know why but thankfully it was just for this single. I quite like the song though.

LunchMoney Lewis may be one of the worst stage names for a singer but that didn't stop his 'Bills' from being a big hit here. It did get annoying very quickly for many here so its position is not a surprise.

Flo Rida made a song about getting his whistle blown, which is definitely not a reference to a BuzzJack (or something else with the same acronym). Of course, being Flo Rida, the song was unfairly hated even though it's brilliant sad.gif

Also dropping out is current hit single 'Fast Car' by Jonas Blue, which was always going to get a bad rep for covering such a classic - as well as songs by Willow, Busted and the charity U2 & Green Day collaboration.

It's not as if I have been spamming a thread with constant gripes about the same artist all the time like some others do on this website.

That's true.

Whistle was probably one of the worst Flo Rida songs did.

260-251

4.88 251 Will Young - Don't Let Me Down / You And I

4.72 257 The Wanted – Heart Vacancy
4.72 258 Kym Marsh - Cry
4.71 259 R. City feat. Adam Levine - Locked Away
4.69 260 Craig David feat. Sting - Rise & Fall

Whilst Craig David was well known for making good garage and RnB tunes, he had some boring songs too, such as 'Rise & Fall' which is more fall than it is rise in this countdown.

R. City, a group whose name unfortunately sounds like Arse City (something they should've thought about before naming themselves) brought 'Locked Away' near the top of the chart last year but didn't have many fans on Buzzjack. They've yet to have another hit.

The Wanted broke through with a fairly good single in 'All Time Low' but then proceeded to go down the path of boybland with their 2nd release. Boyband ballads really are the worst :')

Chamillionaire made an iconic urban rap song in 'Ridin' which was huge in 2006. Sadly but unsurprisingly most of you hate this, I think it's a proper jam though. Also from 2006 is Chris Brown with his debut single 'Run It'.

Speaking of jams, we have some novelty jams here next to each other in 'The Cheeky Song' and 'Who Let The Dogs Out', both massive early 00s hits and defining songs of my early childhood.

Will Young, Kym Marsh and Martine McCutcheon also appear with songs I'm unfamiliar with.

Should have been lower, awful song.

Half of that last section are 10/10 songs.

250-241

5.13 241 S Club Juniors - Automatic High
5.11 242 Chris Brown – Don’t Wake Me Up
5.11 243 Bruno Mars – When I Was Your Man
5.10 244 Sidney Samson feat. Wizard Sleeve – Riverside (Let’s Go!)
5.10 245 Maroon 5 - Maps
5.08 246 Manic Street Preachers - Empty Souls
5.04 247 Lisa Maffia - All Over
4.96 248 Conor Maynard – Can’t Say No
4.94 249 Eminem – Bezerk
4.92 250 5 Seconds Of Summer – Don’t Stop

5 Seconds Of Summer released a debut which went straight to #1, and for a time it seemed that the follow-up was destined to do the same. Thankfully people saw sense and it only went to #2. 'Don't Stop'? More like 'Please, STOP'.

No other boybands here but male bands Maroon 5 and Manic Street Preachers appear with the first of multiple entries for both of them. 'Maps' was a bit of a non-event even by Maroon 5 standards and I don't recall anything about 'Empty Souls' other than its hilariously short chart run.

Conor Maynard launched with 'Can't Say No' and for a very short period was known as the UK's Justin Bieber. His career as a pop star only lasted for one era though and now he does cover versions of current pop hits on YouTube (which seem to get quite a lot of views actually). Maybe that's for the best considering Buzzjack gave his #2 hit a score less than 5.

Sidney Samson scored the first big dance hit of the decade when 'Riverside' went in at #2 in January 2010, though it took a rap version by someone no-one had heard of or would hear of again for that to happen. It's one of my personal faves of 2010, sad to see it so low no.gif

Another rapper, and one who is significantly more popular, has his first entry at #249 with the lead from his most recent album. It quickly got overshadowed by his Rihanna collab and left the chart as soon as it came.

Chris Brown and Bruno Mars whine their way into this section and next to each other too. Both of the songs are, as expected, awful. And then there's S Club Juniors who we somehow let have three UK #2 singles. 'Automatic High' is the first of them in this countdown.

If 'When I Was Your Man' was sang by a female BJ would've lapped it up.

Posted by: Dobbo May 29 2016, 11:55 AM

Don't Wake Me Up is incredible wub.gif

All Over is an early noughties classic too, surprised that's so low I expected it to have a lot of fans here. The Conor, Eminem & 5SOS tracks are among their best.

Posted by: SKOB May 29 2016, 12:14 PM

Uhmmm "Run It" so low, what have you been taking? It's one of the proper classics of the 00s

I rather agree. Bruno gets a tough time on this forum. laugh.gif But WIWYM is a bit too cheesy. LOOH is so much better and I hope I don't see it appear for a while.

Posted by: Iz~ May 29 2016, 12:38 PM

I really love Berzerk and Riverside, I expected them very low however, the former especially must be quite an acquired taste. Very little else that's good has gone, although I'll echo the hope that Locked Out Of Heaven is much higher, that's one of the few times I've been really convinced by Bruno as a popstar.

240-231

5.27 231 Ronan Keating - Lovin' Each Day
5.27 232 will.i.am feat. Miley Cyrus, French Montana, Wiz Khalifa & DJ Mustard – Feelin’ Myself
5.26 233 U2 - City Of Blinding Lights
5.23 234 Manic Street Preachers - The Love Of Richard Nixon
5.23 235 Justin Bieber – Boyfriend
5.22 236 The Vamps – Can We Dance
5.20 237 Meghan Trainor - Lips Are Movin
5.19 238 One Direction - Perfect
5.19 239 Lemar - Dance (With U)
5.14 240 Alyssa Reid feat. Jump Smokers – Alone Again

Alyssa Reid released her interpretation of 80s song 'Alone' in 2012 and made #2 with it. I remember well that week I was hoping all week it would miss #1 as it was up against David Guetta's 'Titanium'. Despite that I do like the song, preferably without the rap though.

Lemar was a contestant in Fame Academy and turned out to be the only one from that show to get a long running career out of it. His first single 'Dance (With U)' was fairly good and would be his highest peaker though the #3 'If There's Any Justice' would become his biggest hit single a year later.

One Direction released a fairly poor single last year, though quite average by their standards - which would have gone to #1 had it not been for KDA, Katy B and Tinie Tempah (saviours of the chart). It is their first of three #2 hits to drop out. Other boyband The Vamps drop out with their debut a few places higher.

Meghan Trainor, despite being a big female popstar has not always got the best reaction from Buzzjack from her songs. 'Lips Are Movin' isn't even her least popular song here but misses the top 200.

Before Justin Bieber made actually decent music last year he was best known musically for his pre-pubecent voice and cheesiness. Though there was a period inbetween of which 'Boyfriend' is taken from. It's not as bad as some of the horrors from his early stuff, but still not something I liked.

The other Manics frontloaded #2 drops out in this section. They still have one more appearance but with a song that actually spent more than 2 weeks in the top 40.

U2 make their 2nd visit in the countdown. They still have 2 more to go.

will.i.am, not satisfied with just one guest feature like most of his songs decided to go with four of them. It definitely worked though as it was quite a big #2 hit and is quite a jam too.

Ronan Keating is at the top of this section. It is the fourth appearance and last we see of him in this countdown.

Posted by: SKOB May 29 2016, 03:04 PM

Boyfriend 200 places too low, amazing song.

230-221

5.45 221 S Club Juniors - New Direction
5.45 222 Basshunter – All I Ever Wanted
5.43 223 Rizzle Kicks – Mama Do The Hump
5.42 224 Holly Valance - Down Boy
5.41 225 Florence +The Machine feat. Dizzee Rascal – You Got The Dirtee Love
5.40 226 The Glee Cast – Don’t Stop Believin’
5.37 227 One Direction – Best Song Ever
5.33 228 Usher - Pop Ya Colla
5.32 229 Oasis - Let There Be Love
5.27 230 Sinead Quinn - I Can't Break Down

Sinead Quinn like Lemar was a Fame Academy contestant but had less of a top 40 career, having just this and a #19 hit. The song here isn't memorable, much like the Oasis and Usher songs above it.

One Direction made a song titled 'Best Song Ever'. As I expected, it was not anywhere close to being the best song ever. At least it provided a great chart moment in Avicii, Saviour of the UK Chart, beating this to #1.

The Glee Cast decided to inflict themselves onto the UK top 40 with thirty different songs. Only one of them would chart in the top five though and that was their cover of 'Don't Stop Believin', which sounded okay at the time but not something I go back to. Journey did it better.

Florence and Dizzee Rascal did a good mashup of two of their recent hits at the Brits in 2010 and it went all the way to #2. Brits mashups in subsequent years have not performed as well and now it seems they're not really a thing anymore. sad.gif

Holly Valance actually had hits other than 'Kiss Kiss' which was a surprise to me. The direct follow-up made #2 but is generally forgotten which explains its low position.

Rizzle Kicks got their biggest hit with 'Mama Do The Hump', which is quite a fun song actually. Too low.

Basshunter had a massive #1 with 'Now You're Gone' and followed it up with the much weaker 'All I Ever Wanted', but people were still onboard with him enough to get it to #2.

S Club Juniors show themselves in this again, just one more to go from them.

220-210

5.65 211 K’naan – Wavin’ Flag (Coca Cola Celebration Mix)
5.65 212 Liberty X - Got To Have Your Love
5.64 213 Ice Cube feat. Mack 10 & MS Toi - You Can Do It
5.60 214 Sugababes – Get Sexy
5.58 215 D12 - My Band
5.56 216 Britney Spears - I'm Not A Girl Not Yet A Woman
5.54 217 Big Brovaz - Favourite Things
5.53 218 Donell Jones - U Know What's Up
5.53 219 Felix Jaehn feat. Jasmine Thompson - Ain't Nobody (Loves Me Better)
5.50 220 Appleton - Fantasy

Appleton despite the All Saints connection do poorly in this, probably because the song isn't that good.

What's not understandable though is Felix Jaehn this low cry.gif I guess with it being a dance cover version it was always going to get haters but this is seriously brilliant!!

More urban leaning songs drop out including Donnell Jones, Big Brovaz, D12 and Ice Cube.

Surprisingly we lose Sugababes and Britney Spears songs already, although less surprising when you consider what songs they are. 'Get Sexy' has always been hated by a lot of people including even people in the Sugababes fanbase, and that Britney song is very weak for her.

Liberty X had a great song in 'Just A Little' which was #1 for them. Their follow-up was not so great and misses the top 200 in this countdown.

K'naan released a football song in the height of the 2010 World Cup and somehow overshadowed the Shakira world cup anthem at the time, going all the way to #2 (stopped by a less good football song in 'Shout' and then Katy Perry the following week). I did quite enjoy it at the time anyway but it's not much of a loss at this stage.

omgg 'Got to Have Your Love' is amazing wub.gif

Posted by: Defaze May 29 2016, 06:05 PM

'Can We Dance' is the only major loss for me so far. I'm generally not a fan of The Vamps, but it's a brilliant pop song. Shame they've not even come close to topping their debut.

210-201

5.79 201 LL Cool J feat. Jennifer Lopez - Control Myself
5.78 202 The Wanted – Chasing The Sun
5.78 203 Wiley – Wearing My Rolex
5.75 204 John Legend – All Of Me
5.75 205 Natalie La Rose feat. Jeremih - Somebody
5.72 206 Wretch 32 feat. Example – Unorthodox
5.71 207 Robbie Williams – Bodies
5.70 208 Maroon 5 – Makes Me Wonder
5.70 209 Shayne Ward – No U Hang On / If That’s OK With You
5.67 210 Example – Say Nothing

Example had just come from a great era and successful feature on a Calvin Harris track but it was arguably 'Say Nothing' which started his downfall. Somehow it made #2 but as it was such a weak song by his standards it fell very quickly. He would have just one more top ten hit afterwards.

Shayne Ward as the first successful X Factor winner had a few hits after winning, but none are half as remembered as his winners single 'That's My Goal' which leads to his double A-side missing the top 200.

Maroon 5 are seen again, this time with their first #2 hit 'Makes Me Wonder'. Being Maroon 5 of course the song was going to get hate from many of us, I personally think the song's quite average and here's about where it should be in the rundown.

Robbie Williams made a song about bodies, for some reason. This was also back when he was still big enough to get top 2 hits. Go check out the Robbie Williams forum. (Yes, we have one).

Example pops his head in again with Wretch 32 this time and Stone Roses. 'Unorthodox' was quite a letdown from Wretch's 'Traktor' so at the time I was quite annoyed it outpeaked it. Still not a big fan of the song now.

Natalie La Rose misses the top 200 which surprises me as I thought the song was very much liked on Buzzjack ohmy.gif Well I guess even female popstars have their haters..

John Legend has 'All Of Me' at #204. Which is still at least 50 places too high.

On the other end of the spectrum Wiley has an amazing song one place above Legend. Proper jamm music.gif

The Wanted lose another song, the surprising thing though is that it's actually a decent song. G'won ladz.

LL Cool J was apparently still relevant enough in 2006 to get a #2 hit single. Yeah that passed me by too, it's quite average anyway.

Natalie La Rose being that low is saddening and quite unexpected. Such a tune! Also, that Shayne Ward AA side is fantastoc! NUHU is exactly the sort of wholesome popNb he should've been doing instead of a lot of the Westlife-rejects material he ended up doing. sad.gif

Wavin' Flag is an anthem of international good feeling and certainly the best football-related song there is, sad to see it so low but it's always been underappreciated here I think.

Kinda sad to see those Manics singles so low, but it's not that surprising since they are taken from what is considered by some to be their worst album (Even the band themselves have disowned it, but imo it's severely underrated).

200-191

5.90 191 S Club - Say Goodbye / Love Ain't Gonna Wait For You
5.89 192 James Bay - Hold Back The River
5.89 193 Mr Hudson feat. Kanye West – Supernova
5.86 194 Robbie Williams - Tripping
5.85 195 Flo Rida feat. T Pain – Low
5.85 196 A1 - Caught In The Middle
5.84 197 Scooter - The Logical Song
5.83 198 Plain White T’s – Hey There Delilah
5.82 199 The Wanted – Lightning
5.79 200 The Saturdays – Just Can’t Get Enough

The Saturdays covered the 80s Depeche Mode song for Comic Relief and got their first of two #2s. It would take another 4 years for them to finally get a #1. The girlband have always had a big fanbase on Buzzjack but this song has never been a big fan favourite and so unsurprisingly gets an average score.

The Wanted had another #2 single after their big #1 'Glad You Came', which ultimately was another average song for them and got forgotten quickly.

Plain White T's had a massive single but were barely heard from since, which was probably for the best (though I find the song tolerable, it got annoying when it was overplayed at the time).

Scooter music.gif 'The Logical Song' is a serious banger and it's a shame it's under-appreciated here outside of the dance fanbase.

Also weeping for people's ears @ Flo Rida finishing so low (basil.gif) in this no.gif

Robbie Williams had a fairly decent song in 'Tripping'. It finishes as his 2nd highest of his entries. Also here is the first of four entries for S Club, James Bay's huge hit, A1 (whooooooooooo) and Mr Hudson (anyone remember him?).

Posted by: Dobbo May 30 2016, 06:37 PM

The Logical Song is one of the best songs of the noughties, as is Nessaja!

190-181

6.03 181 Libertines - Can't Stand Me Now
6.01 182 Sash - Adelante
6.01 183 Jason Derulo – The Other Side
6.00 184 Calvin Harris feat. Ne-Yo - Let's Go
5.99 185 N Sync - Girlfriend
5.99 186 Sean Paul - We Be Burnin
5.94 187 D12 - Purple Pills / Purple Hills
5.93 188 White Stripes – Icky Thump
5.93 189 T2 feat. Jodie Aysha - Heartbroken
5.93 190 Sean Paul – She Doesn’t Mind

Sean Paul proved he could still be relevant years after he first became popular surprising everyone by getting a big #2 hit with 'She Doesn't Mind' which is quite a tune~ A few places up Sean pops his head in again with the older 'We Be Burnin'.

T2 brought garage back to the chart with the multi-week #2 'Heartbroken' which really should be higher.

I'm still not sure how that White Stripes song was a #2, not a fan of it. Not keen on the D12 or N Sync songs here either.

Calvin has his first of multiple entries and of course I love this one, very fun song dance.gif Also we see Sash with the last of their #2s and the only one in the 2000s.

The Libertines with a song great for its genre and Jason Derulo with an average song for its genre also make appearances.

180-171

6.16 171 The Saturdays – Forever Is Over
6.16 172 One Direction – Story Of My Life
6.14 173 Shayne Ward - No Promises
6.13 174 H ‘Two’ O feat. Platnum – What’s It Gonna Be
6.13 175 Rihanna feat. Drake - Work
6.12 176 Mario - Let Me Love You
6.10 177 Aloe Blacc – I Need A Dollar
6.09 178 Michael Jackson - You Rock My World
6.08 179 Daniel Powter - Bad Day
6.05 180 Atomic Kitten - Last Goodbye / Be With You

Usually a single with 'Goodbye' in the title by a pop group means they're about to split up. This wasn't the case for Atomic Kitten though as they kept going for another few years. It is goodbye to them in this countdown though as it was their only #2 hit.

Daniel Powter had one of the biggest #2s of the 2010s with 'Bad Day' and is probably more remembered than most of the #1s of that year. Although this is Buzzjack which was never going to score a male MoR pop song that highly.

Michael Jackson had a lot of great songs. 'You Rock My World' wasn't one of them however and unsurprisingly drops out in the lower half of the rundown. His other #2 could appear much higher though.

Aloe Blacc even before the life-changing 'Wake Me Up' had a certain level of popularity largely thanks to his #2 'I Need A Dollar' which still remains his biggest solo single despite getting a #1 later on with 'The Man'.

Mario had a big song with 'Let Me Love You' in 2005 which was unlucky to miss #1 by the Comic Relief single that year. It's very good for a mid 00s urban jam actually~

Rihanna's most recent megahit (as the lead artist) got quite a mixed reaction both here and in real life and it seems its dislike slightly outweighs its love here as it misses the top 150. sad.gif Should be higher.

H 'Two' O finishes 15 places higher than T2 to be the Buzzjack favourite of the mid 00s garage #2s.

Shayne Ward, 1D and The Sats finish the section with blegh songs.

Posted by: SevenSeize May 30 2016, 07:34 PM

the likes of Let's Go, Low and Work deserve their low finishes here though

6.24 162 Oasis - Little By Little / She Is Love
6.23 163 Jessie J – Do It Like A Dude
6.22 164 Jay-Z feat. Beyonce Knowles - 03 Bonnie & Clyde
6.22 165 The Script – The Man Who Can’t Be Moved
6.22 166 Just Jack – Starz In Their Eyes
6.21 167 Eric Prydz vs. Floyd – Proper Education
6.20 168 Tinie Tempah feat. Labrinth – Frisky
6.16 169 Razorlight - Somewhere Else
6.15 170 U2 - Stuck In A Moment You Can't Get Out Of

U2 are here again with some forgettable song. Oasis also appear with two songs that I can't recall.

Razorlight had some of the best songs of the indie landfill era. 'Somewhere Else' was one of them and it appears here, quite a tune.

Tinie Tempah followed up 'Pass Out' with the also-amazing 'Frisky', which to my annoyance missed #1 because of the Shout record sleep.gif It's quite underrated for him too.

Progressive house music legend Eric Prydz made a kool remix of a Pink Floyd classic and nearly brought the song to #1 again. It's not his best though and he's still got another song higher up.

Just Jack had a hit referencing 'Stars In Their Eyes' even though he was a bit late to the reference - the show had finished before the song was released. Good for him though, not a bad song.

The Script had a very big #2 with their breakthrough 'The Man Who..' which isn't all that special but an okay song. Glad it's not too high though.

Jay-Z and Beyoncι teamed up for 2003 hit referencing Bonnie and Clyde. They've done better.

Jessie J broke through with 'Do It Like A Dude', which was, well, quite interesting for a big hit single. I quite liked it too, though she would go on to greater things (Domino!)

50 Cent had a great song in 'Ayo Technology' which I'm sure would be higher if it weren't for the anti-urban bias. If it weren't for 'In da Club' it would be his best song by a fair margin (though 'Candy Shop' is great also).

If 'When I Was Your Man' was sang by a female BJ would've lapped it up.

This argument is so condescending and boring. Like I have heard it a million times on this forum.

It's just not a good song, if Adele or Christina Perri had released it, I still wouldn't have liked it because it's just not a good song.

160-151

6.41 151 Bomfunk MC's - Freestyler
6.39 152 Passenger – Let Her Go
6.38 153 X-Press 2 feat. David Byrne - Lazy
6.37 154 S Club 7 - You
6.36 155 Ed Sheeran & Rudimental - Bloodstream
6.36 156 Ellie Goulding – Your Song
6.31 157 S Club Juniors - One Step Closer
6.29 158 Calvin Harris feat. Example – We’ll Be Coming Back
6.27 159 DJ Sammy - The Boys Of Summer
6.25 160 Jennifer Lopez feat. LL Cool J - All I Have

Jennifer and LL Cool J team up again except with J-Lo as the lead this time. It's the better song too so good to see it higher than 'Control Myself'.

DJ Sammy decided covering one 80s song in 'Heaven' wasn't enough and went on to cover 'The Boys Of Summer'. It was done quite well though and lands a respectable position in the rundown.

Calvin Harris got another #2 with Example back when it seemed he was destined to get #2s forever. 'We'll Be Coming Back' isn't his strongest work and in such a strong discography is quite forgotten these days.

Both of the S Clubs appear here. Neither of them with a good song though oops.

Ellie Goulding took a lovely cover of 'Your Song' to #2 from featuring on the John Lewis advert (being unjustly denied the #1 too thanks to the X Factor Finalists). This was the first big turning point in her career though so it was a success in that regard.

Ed Sheeran got a remix from Rudimental which didn't actually change the song much, but the drum n' bass feel of the new version gave it a #2 peak so well done to him.

X-Press 2 had a lovely chill dance song in 'Lazy' which was their only hit. It sadly finishes just a few places outside the top half of the rundown.

Passenger got a million-selling single with 'Let It Go' but not everyone on Buzzjack was onboard. It gets a middling position which was probably to be expected from its mixed reaction.

Bomfunk MC's really deserve better, now that is a proper banger and unlike any other song in this rundown. So close to making the top 150 too.

Posted by: Riser May 31 2016, 03:39 AM

That thumbnail for 'Do It Like A Dude' is almost as "good" as the one for 'Flashlight' :')

'Lazy' is a fave <3 Hopefully there's enough good songs left in the top half after seeing how many appeared in the bottom half!

Surprised Flo and Dizzee were out so soon, really thought that would go further.

I'm still not sure how that White Stripes song was a #2, not a fan of it. Not keen on the D12 or N Sync songs here either.

It had a huge boost from sales on 7-inch (nearly 15,000 were on that format out of the 27.8k it sold the week it was at #2) but you're right - they definitely had some far superior singles from their previous albums.

Posted by: Chez Wombat May 31 2016, 10:41 PM

I remember White Stripes being number 2 and even getting close to number 1 at first, seems utterly surreal these days and it was post downloads! Taking advantage of a quite woeful sales environment then, not very reflective at all as it's not even close to their other classics.

Some faves starting to fall out sad.gif Little By Little is amazing, one of modern Oasis' best and Proper Education is a great remix of a classic song. One Step Closer was one of the defining songs of my childhood too (and is still a tune tbf).

150-141

6.50 141 Infernal - From Paris To Berlin
6.48 142 Fall Out Boy – This Ain’t A Scene It’s An Arms Race
6.47 143 Darkness - Christmas Time (Don't Let The Bells End)
6.46 144 Madonna - American Life
6.44 145 Sonique - Sky
6.44 146 Jason Derϋlo – Ridin’ Solo
6.43 147 T.I. feat Rihanna – Live Your Life
6.43 148 Red Hot Chili Peppers - Dani California
6.43 149 Amelia Lily – You Bring Me Joy
6.42 150 Leona Lewis – Happy

Let's get into the top 150 then! Starting off is Leona Lewis with 'Happy' which was widely tipped on Buzzjack to be a #1 but ultimately missed out thanks to the UK public having taste a performance on X Factor by Black Eyed Peas. I wish I was here at the time to lol at that.

Another X Factor contestant just above, Amelia Lily famously was eliminated from The X Factor but then ""surprisingly"" was voted to return when the show announced it was bringing someone back. Her career got off to an okay start with this but everything afterwards was a bit of a flop.

Red Hot Chilli Peppers back when they were still cool enough to be supported by Radio 1 had quite a good single in 'Dani California' which went to #2. Probably one of my faves from them actually.

Remember when T.I. was actually a relevant rapper? Well this song got him a huge US #1 and was very big in the UK too which is 100% because of the O-Zone (Icons) sample.

Jason Derulo had a run of massive hits back in 2010, the biggest of which was probably 'Ridin Solo' although it peaked one place lower than previous single 'Just Dance'.

Sonique had one of the biggest singles of 2000 with the brilliant 'It Feels So Good'. The follow-up sadly doesn't live up to the quality of her breakthrough but it got enough people on board to get it to #2.

Madonna continued having hits in the 00s despite her age, though some of them were quite forgettable. Such as 'American Life' which just makes the top half of the rundown, perhaps helped by her big fanbase on the site.

The Darkness were involved in one big battle for the Christmas number one but lost to the brilliant 'Mad World'. It's still great to hear every Christmas anyway.

Fall Out Boy made a song which was far better than anything they had done previously and they were rewarded with a UK #2. Good for them I guess, song isn't bad.

Infernal had one of the biggest dance smashes of the mid-00s with the catchy 'From Paris To Berlin'. Whilst its production is far from the best heard in dance music, it is a fairly bangin' song.

Posted by: Dobbo Jun 1 2016, 05:13 PM

Sky is amazing, love it just as much as It Feels So Good actually.

Posted by: mr_pmt Jun 1 2016, 05:14 PM

How is 'From Paris To Berlin' that low? What a classic.

'Sky' is great too.

140-131

6.56 131 Bastille – Of The Night
6.56 132 Beyonce feat. Sean Paul - Baby Boy
6.55 133 Kevin Lyttle - Turn Me On
6.54 134 Charlotte Church - Crazy Chick
6.54 135 Steps - Chain Reaction / One For Sorrow
6.53 136 Pussycat Dolls Feat Will.I.Am - Beep
6.53 137 Duke Dumont – Won’t Look Back
6.51 138 Steps - It's The Way You Make Me Feel / Too Busy Thinking 'Bout My Baby
6.50 139 Embrace - Nature's Law
6.50 140 Coldplay - In My Place

Coldplay for some reason managed to get a really boring song as high as #2. In honour of its boringness I will be making the rest of this paragraph of commentary as boring as possible. Coldplay are a band. 'In My Place' is a song. The song charted in the UK at #2.

Embrace follow Coldplay, both musically and that they're next in the rundown with the surprisingly good for an indie MoR song 'Nature's Law'. If it was released by Coldplay it would probably be more remembered too.

Steps appear twice in the section with two double A-sides (they really loved double A-sides). Neither are brilliant unsurprisingly.

Duke Dumont's 'Won't Look Back' was very much at the time mocked for its release date (being ridiculously pushed back) but got a fairly good reaction in terms of song quality. Although his two #1s were a lot lot better.

Pussycat Dolls 'Beep' is probably my favourite song by them, I hoped and expected it would do better in this.

Charlotte Church 'Crazy Chick' was quite good, I never realised that she actually released follow-ups though (3 of them went top 20). Not that I'm rushing to listen to them.

Kevin Lyttle 'Turn Me On' is a proper jam and one of the big urban songs of the early 00s so good to see it get some appreciation here.

'Baby Boy' is one of my faves from early Beyoncι too, of course helped by the presence of Sean de Paul *.*

Bastille top this section with Corona cover 'Of The Night'. It actually sounds better than it looks, it's still no 'Pompeii' though which is still to come.

Posted by: Dobbo Jun 1 2016, 05:20 PM

In My Place is Coldplay's best song by miles (it's between that or Violet Hill).

2 of my 11's in that section! Turn Me On is one the best songs to hear in a club dance.gif

Posted by: mr_pmt Jun 1 2016, 05:21 PM

'Won't Look Back' is still for me easily the best thing Duke Dumont has done, and will take a lot to beat it. wub.gif

Charlotte Church's is great, and Kevin Lyttle is a guilty pleasure.

Posted by: Jack Jun 1 2016, 05:41 PM

Beep and Crazy Chick should be much higher sad.gif

DAN NO, In My Place is gorgeous mad.gif Though their two #2s were definitely the weakest singles from both albums, should've been The Scientist or Clocks instead of this one.

Nature's Law is lovely too, should be much higher, though top 150 isn't too bad for a virtually forgotten song.

Posted by: Taylor Jago Jun 1 2016, 06:47 PM

In My Place was really good! (Although not as good as Clocks or The Scientist).

I'm relieved that Won't Look Back finished in the top half, very underrated song.

130-121

6.69 121 S Club 7 - Two In A Million / You're My Number One
6.68 122 Madonna - Hollywood
6.68 123 Maroon 5 feat. Christina Aguilera - Moves Like Jagger
6.67 124 Hozier - Take Me To Church
6.67 125 Busted - Year 3000
6.67 126 Zombie Nation - Kernkraft 400
6.64 127 Britney Spears feat. Madonna - Me Against The Music
6.60 128 Chris Malinchak – So Good To Me
6.59 129 Coldplay - Speed Of Sound
6.59 130 Zedd feat. Hayley Williams – Stay The Night

Zedd for some reason got his #2 with 'Stay The Night' instead of the much better 'Clarity' which missed the top 20. That's always puzzled me. Though I guess that's what held-back releases can do for a song.

Coldplay pop their head in again though this time with the better 'Speed Of Sound' which famously lost the #1 to a frog. This is one of the good classic Coldplay tunes anyway.

Chris Malinchak gets a decent score although it's still so underrated in this forum. Seriously though it's such a lush song heart.gif cry.gif

You'd think a Britney and Madonna collab would be an easy #1 hit but actually it only made #2, proving name power alone can't get you a megasmash if the song is average. Madonna's own 'Hollywood' finishes a few places higher.

Zombie Nation had a brilliant trance smash which I'd like to think is well-remembered. I guess it did well with the dance fans at least. It would be their only hit.

Busted with what is probably their best song and a bit of a novelty jam in 'Year 3000' here, although sometimes I think it's annoying too so I guess it's done well for a song you'd expect to get a mixed reaction.

You already know what I think about the Hozier song. Let's swiftly move on.

Maroon 5 had a great song with 'Moves Like Jagger' which unfairly was denied #1, though it was hilarious to watch it get stuck at #2 week after week. It does well considering the hate it gets from many.

S Club 7 finish the section with two songs I already forgot how they sounded like.

Hozier slaying in a higher position than I imagined heart.gif

120-111

6.79 111 Adele – Skyfall
6.79 112 Mis-Teeq - All I Want
6.78 113 Mary J Blige feat. U2 - One
6.77 114 True Steppers & Dane Bowers feat. Victoria Beckham - Out Of Your Mind
6.76 115 Bruno Mars – Locked Out Of Heaven
6.75 116 Jamelia - Thank You
6.72 117 Electric Six - Danger High Voltage
6.71 118 Philip George - Wish You Were Mine
6.71 119 Lumidee - Never Leave You (Uh Oooh Uh Oooh)
6.70 120 Mutya Buena – Real Girl

Mutya Buena split from The Sugababes and 'Real Girl' was her debut, quite good for a mid-00s pop song too. Not sure what happened to her afterwards though, I never heard her follow-ups and they didn't go top 40.

Another one hit wonder next, Lumidee brought a bangin' urban tune to the chart back in '03 and always sounds good in a 00s throwback session.

Philip George got 2015 off to a bangin' start with 'Wish You Were Mine' but sadly it misses the top 100 in this rundown.

Electric Six... yep that was a thing that actually happened. laugh.gif

Jamelia really did have some forgettable songs amongst her decent ones, 'Thank You' falls into the forgettable category.

'Locked Out Of Heaven' has its fans here but I personally find it overrated, like most of Bruno Mars songs.

Truesteppers were famously involved in a big chart battle, and one where the best song won too, meaning this is in the rundown of #2 singles.

Mary J Bilge got a cover of a U2 hit as her highest charting song, which actually featured U2 themselves as well. It works very well as a duet anyway, I did like this a fair bit at the time.

Mis-Teeq have another song much higher but for now they have 'All I Want' which has garage beatz and Alesha Dixon rapping *_*

Adele finishes off with 'Skyfall' the theme to James Bond's 'Skyfall' where she famously came back faster, stronger, rollier than ever before. But only made #2.

Posted by: Ne Plus Ultra Jun 2 2016, 11:59 AM

danG, are you sure you never heard Mutya's followup with Groove Armada? Was a big hit in 2007 as well!

Posted by: danG Jun 2 2016, 12:01 PM

I definitely heard that, I count it as a Groove Armada song though rather than a Mutya follow-up.

110-101

6.91 101 No Doubt - Hey Baby
6.91 102 Labrinth feat. Tinie Tempah – Earthquake
6.87 103 Snoop Dogg feat. Justin Timberlake - Signs
6.85 104 Kanye West Feat Jamie Foxx - Gold Digger
6.85 105 Bodyrox feat. Luciana – Yeah Yeah
6.82 106 Ashanti - Only You
6.81 107 Benny Benassi presents The Biz - Satisfaction
6.80 108 Christina Milian - Dip It Low
6.79 109 Ida Corr vs Fedde Le Grande – Let Me Think About It
6.79 110 Kid Cudi vs. Crookers – Day ‘N’ Nite

Kid Cudi got a massive hit out of 'Day N Nite' after being remixed by electro-house group Crookers (and it really does improve the song too).

More electro house here in the form of 'Let Me Think About It', 'Yeah Yeah' and 'Satisfaction' all of which are top top tunes wub.gif

Urban also very much represented which includes proper jams like 'Gold Digger' and 'Earthquake' which really should be higher. So close to the top 100 too sad.gif Not just those but we also have RnB females Ashanti and Christina Milian. We don't get a lot of those these days.

Missing the top 100 by one place is No Doubt. No huge loss there.

Posted by: Mdh Jun 2 2016, 12:16 PM

Day n Nite is probably one of my favourite songs of recent years, such a simple yet catchy tune. Earthquake and Gold Digger are both good songs I suppose, however I can't say I have a clue of any of the other songs and what they are, maybe it's me being young.

Posted by: Iz~ Jun 2 2016, 11:32 PM

Surprised at Gold Digger missing out, that's fairly timeless and probably his best hit.

In My Place is among Coldplay's best songs. It just doesn't have the same structure as most of their other hits. It pulls different heart strings.

100-91

7.02 91 Taylor Swift – Love Story
7.01 92 Arctic Monkeys – Brianstorm
7.00 93 Nick Jonas - Jealous
6.99 94 Girls Aloud – Something New
6.98 95 Girls Aloud - Jump
6.98 96 Robbie Williams & Kylie Minogue – Kids
6.96 97 Ultrabeat - Pretty Green Eyes
6.95 98 Puretone - Addicted To Bass
6.95 99 Darkness - I Believe In A Thing Called Love
6.93 100 Supermen Lovers feat. Mani Hoffman - Starlight

Starting the top 100 is some early 00s funky/nu-disco house by one-hit wonder Supermen Lovers, aka French producer Guillaume Atlan - and I'm pleasantly surprised to see it in the top 100, great start!

The Darkness appear again this time with their bigger and non-festive hit 'I Believe In A Thing Called Love', which is probably the closest thing to 80s rock in this rundown. It's done well though and I liked it a lot at the time too.

Puretone brought the bass to the top of the chart although missed out on #1 by a small margin. He was however the number one living artist in the chart that week as Aaliyah beat the song to #1 with 'More Than A Woman'.

Another dance song at #97 but the last of this section, Ultrabeat had a big hit with 'Pretty Green Eyes', their first release and now considered a Clubland classic.

Robbie Williams teamed with Kylie Minogue to make the very average 'Kids'. Both artists have done much better solo but I guess it got enough fans to be a big hit and the highest entry for Robbie in this rundown. Kylie Minogue still has three more songs to come.

Girls Aloud had a large number of #2 hits across their long career, and all five of them appear in the top 100 - to be expected considering their large fanbase on Buzzjack. Their cover of The Pointer Sisters' 'Jump' (which isn't as great as the original, imo) and their final hit single 'Something New' released for Children In Need drop out next to each other.

Nick Jonas surprised everyone by actually making listenable music after being a part of The Jonas Brothers, which started off with #2 hit 'Jealous' which gets an average of exactly 7/10. Aside, only the top 15 have an average of 8/10 or greater and no song has of or above 9/10.

Arctic Monkeys continued their big singles chart success into their 2nd era, which started with #2 hit 'Brianstorm', one of their best songs too with a great riff. It enters the rundown at #92.

Taylor Swift has her first of three entries at #91 with 'Love Story', her first #2 hit. Buzzjack get it right thankfully as her other #2s are a lot better than this.

90-81

7.09 81 Rihanna – Rude Boy
7.09 82 Leona Lewis – Better In Time / Footprints In The Sand
7.08 83 Mark Ronson feat Daniel Merriweather – Stop Me
7.06 84 Avril Lavigne – Girlfriend
7.05 85 Take That – The Flood
7.05 86 IIO - Rapture
7.04 87 Jeff Buckley – Hallelujah
7.03 88 Eric Prydz – Pjanoo
7.03 89 Fifth Harmony feat. Ty Dolla $ign - Work From Home
7.03 90 Corinne Bailey Rae - Put Your Records On

Corinne Bailey starts the section with the overrated 'Put Your Records On'. It's really not that special imo but it's always been very much liked by the majority. At least the rest of this section is an improvement on this.

Fifth Harmony broke through last year with #3 'Worth It' but it wasn't until 'Work From Home' when they got their first massive hit in the UK. With it being very on-trend and being by a girlgroup of course it would get lots of love on Buzzjack (it also got its share of hate too though).

Eric Prydz's biggest #2 hit is also the highest of his on this rundown, also a rarity in that it is fully instrumental, 'Pjanoo' remains a proper house anthem to this day.

The release of 'Hallelujah' by X-Factor Winner Alexandra Burke prompted fans of the original to get it back into the chart, but those fans were very much outnumbered by fans of Jeff Buckley's cover version (which to be fair is the best version) which made #2 for Christmas behind Alexandra. It's still very well thought of now as it gets well inside the top 100 here.

House group IIO took 'Rapture' to #2, being stopped by Afroman of all people. It's still very much a tune though of course I have to give a shout-out to Nadia Ali's solo version produced by Avicii which made the top 40 just over 10 years later.

Robbie agreed to rejoin Take That for one era back in 2010 and the hype of that easily gave them a big hit with 'The Flood' although it only made #2. The song clearly didn't sell on hype alone though as it was a long lasting hit and is well regarded on Buzzjack.

Avril Lavigne brought her fun rockpop 'Girlfriend' to the top end of the chart for many weeks but never saw #1 with it due to the Proclaimers' charity single, unlucky. It's not something I listen to often though as it's annoyingly catchy laugh.gif

Mark Ronson started his domination of the chart with 'Stop Me', which I didn't realise until years later was actually a cover - though I should have guessed as all his follow-ups of the era were covers. I always liked this more than his 'Valerie' but both are good.

Leona Lewis followed up her biggest hit with 'Better In Time' which unsurprisingly isn't as good as 'Bleeding Love' but still fairly listenable. I don't rate it that highly though, top 100 is probably a bit high for this.

Rihanna finishes the section with 'Rude Boy', the third of eight entries for her. I've always found this to be a proper jamm music.gif

Posted by: vibe Jun 5 2016, 03:25 PM

Some good tunes in that last selection of tracks .

Rudeboy I believe is my first 11 to leave smile.gif

Can't believe that awful Work From Home is so high. Soft porn at its worst. I feel sorry for those girls, it has completely the opposite message of their last song Worth It...

Posted by: Taylor Jago Jun 5 2016, 04:35 PM

Jeff Buckley's Hallelujah is, in my opinion, one of only three cover versions (along with Johnny Cash's Hurt and Pet Shop Boys' Always On My Mind) to be unquestionably better than the original.

Posted by: Taylor Jago Jun 5 2016, 07:34 PM

Work From Home should be about 210 places lower. Utterly atrocious.

80-71

7.20 71 Rachel Stevens - Some Girls
7.20 72 Rihanna - Pon De Replay
7.20 73 Red Hot Chili Peppers - By The Way
7.19 74 P!nk - Get The Party Started
7.17 75 Cascada – Everytime We Touch
7.14 76 Booty Luv – Boogie 2Nite
7.14 77 Adele – Chasing Pavements
7.14 78 Sophie Ellis-Bextor - Take Me Home
7.12 79 JoJo - Leave (Get Out)
7.11 80 Kelly Rowland - Stole

Kelly Rowland with a song I never saw the fuss over gets as high as #80. I couldn't hum any of it to you either, quite forgettable for me and I haven't heard it much.

JoJo got her first hit with 'Leave (Get Out)' when she was only 13 years old, it is surprisingly good for someone of her age anyway. She is currently working on her third studio album, apparently, though hasn't released an album since 2006 due to label issues.

Sophie Ellis-Bextor got her big breakthrough with 'Groovejet' and followed it up with this, which I'm not actually very familiar with. Her biggest solo hit was yet to come though and appears later in the rundown.

Before Adele became the biggest female singer on the planet she had a good deal of success with the '19' era, which started out with 'Chasing Pavements' which hit #2 following her BBC Sound Of win. It's still well liked on this forum but has been overshadowed by more recent songs since.

Booty Luv were once a thing, yes. Despite their name sounding like a novelty act the song is anything but, with 'Boogie 2Nite' being a great disco-house jam (TheSnake would approve) after being remixed by Seamus Haji for its single release.

More dance with Cascada who start the top 75, who were the biggest name in the mid-00s eurodance era. They would debut with their biggest and most remembered hit 'Everytime We Touch', which is a proper TUNE - though would continue to have chart hits for a few more years including a number one.

P!nk with one of her best songs 'Get The Party Started' gets a good position in this rundown too. I'm personally disappointed that her other song in this is higher but that is Buzzjack for you.

Red Hot Chilli Peppers get a surprisingly high average score for 'By The Way', which I don't really think is that special. I'd swap this with 'Dani California' in the rundown personally.

Rihanna had her breakthrough hit with 'Pon de Replay' which is still one of her best pre-Loud era. It's got a great beat to it.

Rachel Stevens does well here with 'Some Girls' which is quite a fun pop track. She still has another track remaining in this rundown.

Loving the Stole love ! Could have been a number 1 (was chatting on import before single release for a few weeks).

Another great bunch of songs smile.gif

70-61

7.34 61 La Roux – In For The Kill
7.33 62 Black Eyed Peas - Shut Up
7.29 63 Justin Timberlake feat. T.I. – My Love
7.26 64 Moloko - The Time Is Now
7.25 65 James Morrison feat. Nelly Furtado – Broken Strings
7.25 66 Justin Timberlake - Like I Love You
7.23 67 Artful Dodger & Romina Johnson - Movin' Too Fast
7.23 68 Manic Street Preachers feat. Nina Persson – Your Love Alone Is Not Enough
7.23 69 The Noisettes – Don’t Upset The Rhythm (Go Baby Go)
7.22 70 Christina Aguilera – Ain’t No Other Man

The Noisettes had 'Don't Upset The Rhythm' become big in 2009 though eventually they would become a two-hit wonder band and be forgotten about quickly afterwards. Speaking of two-hit wonders from 2009, La Roux also appears here with her breakthrough hit 'In For The Kill'.

Manic Street Preachers had one last big hit in 2007 with 'Your Love Alone...' which is easily their most popular song out of their 3 entries here and also had a better chart run.

Artful Dodger famously introduced us to Craig David but had some other hits too including 'Movin' Too Fast' which is one of the best of its genre.

Justin Timberlake appears twice here with 'Like I Love You' and 'My Love'. He has 2 more to go, which doesn't include most recent #2 'Can't Stop The Feeling' as it missed the cut-off point.

Also in this section are songs by Christina Aguilera, Black Eyed Peas and Moloko.

An impressive crop of songs there from 61-70 there.

'In For The Kill' is legitimately, one of my least favourite songs of all time. Horrific.

60-51

7.52 51 Calvin Harris - Feel So Close
7.49 52 Blink 182 - All The Small Things
7.47 53 Kings Of Leon – Use Somebody
7.46 54 Fergie – Big Girls Don’t Cry (Personal)
7.46 55 Samantha Mumba - Gotta Tell You
7.43 56 Rihanna – Russian Roulette
7.42 57 Kate Nash – Foundations
7.40 58 Calvin Harris feat. Kelis – Bounce
7.38 59 Jay-Z feat. Alicia Keys – Empire State Of Mind
7.35 60 Emeli Sandι – Next To Me

Emeli Sandι released 'Next To Me' just as she was starting to become a huge name, though this was even before she started appearing on every TV show going including a small event called the London Olympics Opening (and closing) Ceremony. Despite the overexposure I always liked 'Next To Me', quite an uplifting song. She has an even better one yet to come.

Jay-Z and his song about New York got him his biggest hit to date and still one of his best remembered alongside '99 Problems' and 'In Paris'. It does well for a rap song here finishing at #59.

Calvin Harris finds himself here twice with 'Bounce' and its follow-up 'Feel So Close' which both unfortunately missed #1 in a time where it seemed every Calvin song was destined to peak at #2. It seems that time has come again as his 2 most recent singles have peaked at... #2.

Kate Nash is probably most famous here for missing #1 by a very small amount with the song 'Foundations', but people seem to actually like the song too. I never really heard it much but it didn't seem all that great.

Rihanna made her comeback in 2009 with 'Russian Roulette', a song people didn't expect from her but nonetheless it did well anyway as you'd expect a Rihanna lead to. Not one of my faves from her but an interesting song nonetheless.

Samantha Mumba appears in the middle of this section. Fergie follows with 'Big Girls Don't Cry', being a ballad after two ~urban~swag~ songs but despite that it became her biggest hit. I prefer 'Glamorous' myself.

Kings Of Leon refused to leave the charts and the radio with 'Sex On Fire' and 'Use Somebody' for what felt like years. The latter of those only made #2 but sold a million anyway and does well in this rundown. Blink 182 finish a place behind Calvin's 'Feel So Close' which tops the section.

Posted by: Dobbo Jun 10 2016, 06:00 PM

Well that's a largely awful set of songs, save Rihanna & Kate Nash.

Posted by: Taylor Jago Jun 11 2016, 10:14 AM

Good section there, Next To Me, Bounce, Foundations, Russian Roulette, Big Girls Don't Cry, Use Somebody and Feel So Close are all good.

Posted by: Scene Jun 11 2016, 11:48 AM

It's a shame Russian Roulette and Big Girls Don't Cry are out now. Both great songs! I especially love RR. wub.gif

50-41

7.66 41 Girls Aloud - The Show
7.60 42 P!nk feat Nate Ruess – Just Give Me A Reason
7.60 43 Sweet Female Attitude - Flowers
7.57 44 S Club 7 - Reach
7.56 45 Rihanna – Unfaithful
7.56 46 Kylie Minogue - I Believe In You
7.54 47 Calvin Harris + Disciples - How Deep Is Your Love
7.54 48 Dannii Minogue - I Begin To Wonder
7.53 49 Oasis - Stop Crying Your Heart Out
7.52 50 Gwen Stefani feat. Akon – The Sweet Escape

Gwen Stefani starts off the top 50 with 'The Sweet Escape', a song which I found quite annoying at the time as it was literally everywhere. Also she had done better songs previously.

Oasis get their highest entry in this with 'Stop Crying...', unsurprising considering it's the only #2 of theirs in the 00s anyone actually remembers. It gets into the top 50 though which is better than I expected.

Dannii Minogue with her 00s jam 'I Begin To Wonder' appears but sister Kylie outdoes her with 3 different songs. One of them 'I Believe In You' appears two places above putting Calvin Harris in a Minogue sandwich with his brilliant 'How Deep Is Your Love'.

Rihanna's great ballad 'Unfaithful' which helped put her on the pop music map further is at #45. She has 2 more entries to come.

For some reason people here generally love 'Just Give Me A Reason' and 'Reach', which both appear just outside the top 50. I find both horrendously overrated.

Sweet Female Attitude with their only hit and early 00s garage classic 'Flowers' appears at #43 and Girls Aloud just miss the top 40 with 'The Show' (but still have 2 songs to come).

Posted by: Jason Jun 12 2016, 04:39 PM

Good to see The Minogue sisters in the top 50. cheer.gif

Posted by: Dobbo Jun 12 2016, 04:48 PM

VERY impressive for Flowers to finish to high dance.gif

Other than HDIYL, Unfaithful & Reach the rest of that lot are passable. Little By Little is far superior to SCYHO for me!

40-31

7.76 31 Kylie Minogue - On A Night Like This
7.75 32 Gorillaz - Feel Good Inc
7.75 33 Taylor Swift – Shake It Off
7.75 34 Taylor Swift - I Knew You Were Trouble
7.73 35 Clean Bandit feat. Jess Glynne – Real Love
7.71 36 Mariah Carey - We Belong Together
7.71 37 Eminem feat. Rihanna – Love The Way You Lie
7.70 38 Justin Timberlake - Rock Your Body
7.67 39 Outkast - Ms Jackson
7.67 40 Nicki Minaj – Starships

Let's get on with the top 40 before everyone forgets about this. Nicki Minaj starts the section with the brilliant 'Starships', one of the major OA/OS success stories pre-Global Release Day. The song recently passed a million sales also.

Outkast's highest-peaker is oddly not ultimate 00s classic 'Hey Ya' but the still well-known 'Ms Jackson' (though it's not half as brilliant). It beats Nicki Minaj on tiebreak (more 11s).

Justin Timberlake appears with 'Rock Your Body' which he performed on Eurovision alongside most recent single 'Can't Stop The Feeling' (also a #2). It remains one of his best songs ever - though he still has another to appear in this rundown.

Rihanna is well-known for featuring on many other people's songs. One of the most famous of these is her collab with Eminem whose lyrics relate to her experience with domestic abuse and unsurprisingly sold well. Eminem is particularly great in this too though recently it seems he can't make songs as good anymore.

Mariah Carey spent about 200 weeks at #1 in America with 'We Belong Together'. Thankfully in the UK that didn't happen and it didn't even get one. It's actually one of her best probably (saying this not being familiar with a lot of her material) but not something I choose to listen to.

Jess Glynne, Queen of Music teamed up with Clean Bandit a second time and got rewarded with another big hit in 'Real Love'. Whilst only being half as good as 'Rather Be' it was something I enjoyed and it was great seeing them make a sequel to such a huge hit. Currently Clean Bandit are enjoying another big hit with Louisa Johnson whilst the world awaits for the Queen's return...

Taylor Swift appears twice in a row, and funny enough the two songs get exactly the same average though 'Shake It Off' outdoes 'I Knew You Were Trouble.' as it got one more 11 than it. These two are probably her strongest songs (well those and 'Style', which unjustly missed the top 20) so it was good to see the public taking to these more than her other hits.

Gorillaz appear at #32 with proper classic 'Feel Good Inc'. I'm surprised this isn't higher actually, how does anyone hate this? Probably one of my faves of its decade. Kylie Minogue is one place ahead. She has one more song left in the rundown but how will it do?

Not hugely fussed on most of that top 30, One More Time is the obvious standout & extremely glad it's made top 30 biggrin.gif

Next faves would be Cry Me A River, Lean On, Scandalous & Whenever, Wherever & good to see Man In The Mirror appreciation too.

Posted by: Iz~ Jun 16 2016, 08:10 PM

Feel Good Inc <3 I was cheering it on to win, as I do in anything it's entered into, sad it's this low. Some decent songs in the top 30 but quite a lot of very average ones too.

Posted by: danG Jun 19 2016, 11:05 AM

30-21

7.90 21 Take That – Rule The World
7.88 22 The Killers – When You Were Young
7.86 23 Wheatus - Teenage Dirtbag
7.85 24 Kylie Minogue - Love At First Sight
7.83 25 Katy Perry – Teenage Dream
7.82 26 Bastille – Pompeii
7.79 27 Girls Aloud - Love Machine
7.78 28 Emeli Sandι – Heaven
7.78 29 Destiny's Child - Bootylicious
7.77 30 Rihanna - S.O.S.

We get on with the rundown with more appearances from familiar faces. Rihanna got her second UK #2 hit with 'Tainted Love', which was the song that showed us she was here to stay and not be just a one-hit wonder (and then of course, 'Umbrella' released a year later would push her into megastar status what with its 200 weeks [approx.] at #1). It's a great fun pop song and sums up the early RiRi well.

Destiny's Child brought booty back fifteen years before Meghan Trainor and what a song to do it with too. The song would get beat to #1 officially by another big girlband at the time Atomic Kitten but this has certainly aged better.

Emeli Sandι had a wonderful debut with 'Heaven' which became her first UK #2 and started off a very successful album campaign. It's still my favourite of hers so I'm glad to see it well ahead of 'Next To Me'.

Girls Aloud had an unlucky run of #2s in the beginning which ended with their fourth 'Love Machine' (well until they finally got another #2 eight years later). It's a good thing this one stalled at #2 though, as it was beat to #1 by Eric Prydz 'Call On Me' which is a thousand times better. Not to shade the Girls though, this is a good pop song.

Bastille brought out a brilliant single in 'Pompeii' which may have not gone to #1 but is certainly one of the biggest songs of the decade and most remembered too (it's spent 100 weeks in the official chart, no exaggeration). Bastille are now back with 'Good Grief' and as expected, it's not as good as this. Nothing they'll do ever will be.

Katy Perry at a time when any song by her would become a massive hit brought out a fairly average pop song. It of course became a huge hit and Buzzjack loved it too, and still do clearly as it starts the top 25.

Kylie Minogue appears here again with another fairly good song. It's the final appearance from her. Personally I think 'On A Night Like This' (#31 in this rundown) should've been higher but they get nearly equal ratings so I can't really complain.

Wheatus. puke.gif No, just no.

The Killers make up for that at #22 with 'When You Were Young', their highest peaking single actually but nowhere near their best selling. It's still great though.

Take That finish the section with 'Rule the World'. It's a bit overplayed/overrated but I can't say it's a bad song.

Posted by: Dobbo Jun 19 2016, 11:13 AM

Quite a mixed bag there, dafuq at Rule The World so high?

Killers nearly top 20 is a good result, excellent to see Daft Punk not announced yet!

Posted by: Chez Wombat Jun 19 2016, 11:27 AM

Wheatus wub.gif They played at my uni loads and they were amaze even if it was all about that one song, classic song and glad to see it top 30.

Fantastic to see Daft Punk in the top 20 ohmy.gif Do hope none of the post 2010 songs win this as there's far too many bonafide classics that should be there instead.

Posted by: Taylor Jago Jun 19 2016, 11:37 AM

When You Were Young is great! Heaven also. Pompeii is magnificent, and Rule The World is great aswell.

Shine top 20! cheer.gif

20-11

8.11 11 Years & Years - Shine
8.11 12 Mis-Teeq - Scandalous
8.04 13 Kelis - Trick Me
8.02 14 Britney Spears – Piece Of Me
8.01 15 Dido - White Flag
7.99 16 Rachel Stevens - Sweet Dreams My LA Ex
7.95 17 Major Lazer feat. MΨ & DJ Snake - Lean On
7.94 18 Mark Ronson feat. Amy Winehouse – Valerie
7.93 19 Sia feat. Sean Paul - Cheap Thrills
7.91 20 Disclosure feat. AlunaGeorge – White Noise

Disclosure brought out a follow-up to megasmash 'Latch' whilst they were still high in demand and it very nearly matched its quality too, which is very high quality. It remains their highest peaking song.

Sia surprised everyone by following up a #30 lead single with a massive hit, although the song sounded ready-made to smash and it features Sean Paul, King of Relevance. It's very likely this will be remembered well by Buzzjack for many years to come anyway and it's rewarded with a top 20 in this rundown already despite its recentness.

Before 'Uptown Funk', Mark Ronson was best known for his 'Valerie' cover with Amy Winehouse (it would also be her highest peaking single) which literally jazzed the song up. It's quite good though and Amy's voice sounds great on it.

Another recent song ends up here in 'Lean On' at #17, which may as well already be a classic of the 2010s cos it's just that good. Currently we are awaiting Major Lazer's comeback (which features Justin Bieber) to be released, which could well become their first #1 hit. I doubt they'll ever top this in terms of quality though.

Rachel Stevens sang a Britney reject to #2 for her debut single and Britney herself is 2 places higher with 'Piece of Me', the lead from her 2008 album Blackout. Between is Dido with what is probably her best known song, 'White Flag' - which I found seriously boring at the time but it's actually not that bad.

Mis-Teeq and Years & Years just miss the top 10, both with good songs too. Kelis appears at #13 with the great 'Trick Me', which followed another #2 of hers that is still to come. It's good to see it almost as highly rated as that here.

the top 10:

predictions? ohmy.gif

Posted by: Dobbo Jun 20 2016, 05:10 PM

Actually that's a pretty decent top 10 all things considered, Daft Punk to win of course but realistically I see it between Adele, Destiny's Child & Girls Aloud unfortunately.

Very surprised Black & Gold is top 10 I never considered that to be so well received on here!

Posted by: Taylor Jago Jun 20 2016, 05:58 PM

White Noise, Cheap Thrills, Valerie and Lean On are all great!

White Flag is magnificent. And Shine is just... superb. Absolutely superb.

Rachel and Years and Years way too high !!!

Posted by: Riser Jun 21 2016, 01:17 AM

Great to see a lot of variety in the top 10! I can't predict a winner from that bunch at all so I'll play it safe and guess Adele. I'm most excited to see how well Black & Gold does ohmy.gif

Posted by: 360Jupiter Jun 21 2016, 01:30 AM

Good for Kelis getting 2 in the top 20! Not who I would've predicted as the highest artist or band to double up.

Posted by: danG Jun 22 2016, 03:25 PM

10-06

8.43 6 Girls Aloud - No Good Advice
8.22 7 Justin Timberlake - Cry Me A River
8.20 8 Sam Sparro – Black & Gold
8.18 9 Kelis - Milkshake
8.17 10 Adele – Rolling In The Deep

#10 - Adele starts the top 10 with her 2011 comeback. 'Rolling In The Deep' brought Adele back into the charts and made her bigger than ever, although it was unfortunate enough to get released whilst Bruno Mars 'Grenade' was still selling massively, and could only get to #2. The song also gave us the phrase 'so deep, I can see Adele rolling in it' and helped her album '21' become one of the biggest selling of all time.

#9 - Kelis' 'Milkshake' brought most of Buzzjack to the Yard as it finishes in the top 10 also. The song spent four weeks at #2, being unlucky enough to get behind... erm, Michelle 'All This Time' (lol) and LMC 'Take Me To The Clouds Above'. A bit of an injustice really. The song's been well established as one of the most iconic of the 00s anyway so good to see people lovin' it.

#8 - Sam Sparro wasn't someone I expected to get this high in the rundown, although it was a properly massive #2 hit and doesn't have any dislike-able features to it. Personally I think this is a bit too high but it is a fairly good song at least.

#7 - Justin Timberlake makes his last appearance at #7 with the brilliant 'Cry Me A River'. Whilst not my favourite #2 of his (that would be 'Rock Your Body') it is obvious why this is the highest of his in the rundown. Probably one of the most remembered songs of the 00s.

#6 - Girls Aloud just miss out on the top 5 (by a small amount too) with 'No Good Advice' which they released as the follow-up to their debut #1 hit and proved to everyone they were here to stay and could make good pop music. Again I wouldn't put this song so high myself but I do like it.

Posted by: Mango Jun 22 2016, 03:34 PM

Very surprised at that Top 10! I'm predicting:

5 Daft Punk - One More Time
4 Michael Jackson – Man In The Mirror
3 Destiny's Child - Lose My Breath
2 Sophie Ellis-Bextor - Murder On The Dancefloor
1 Shakira - Whenever Wherever

Posted by: Jason Jun 22 2016, 03:48 PM

My faves in the top 5 are Daft Punk, Sophie and Shakira in this order.
Meh at Destiny's Child. 😝

Posted by: Scene Jun 23 2016, 08:40 AM

The Sophie Ellis Bextor relevance. ohmy.gif

I think...

5. Destiny's Child - Lose My Breath
4. Daft Punk - One More Time
3. Michael Jackson - Man In The Mirror
2. Shakira - Whenever Wherever
1. Sophie Ellis Bextor - Murder On The Dancefloor

Posted by: Colm Jun 23 2016, 10:13 AM

Rule the World should have been number 1

Posted by: 360Jupiter Jun 23 2016, 10:37 AM

That is quite a surprising top 5, including Michael Jackson and Destiny's Child's perhaps least well-known song of their iconic hits. Shakira and Sophie were dead certs for top 10 or 20 though.

Posted by: Colm Jun 23 2016, 10:42 AM

Cry Me A River and Black and Gold are two highlights of the 00s for me.

Posted by: Iz~ Jun 23 2016, 10:43 AM

Murder On The Dancefloor is awful. Anything but that to win, the rest of the top 5, and top 10 for that matter are all some pretty decent songs (particularly, if I had to choose, Whenever Wherever and Black And Gold maybe?)

Posted by: Colm Jun 23 2016, 10:46 AM

Murder on the Dancefloor is not very good but it is better than Take Me Home. She did much better afterwards.

Posted by: danG Jun 28 2016, 01:08 PM

05-01

well I've kept you waiting long enough so here is the top 5.

#5. Daft Punk - One More Time - my personal favourite in the top 5 and I'm very pleased it got so high. What a classique <3. It really should have been their first #1 but it didn't quite make it, but fortunately they'd make up for it with the million-selling 'Get Lucky' over ten years later which was a multi-week #1.

#4. Destiny's Child - Lose My Breath - DC's highest entry and also one that was unlucky enough to spend 4 weeks at #2, 'Lose My Breath' is still regarded as one of their best.

#3. Michael Jackson - Man In The Mirror - This became MJ's final #2 single although it took over 20 years for it to get there and unfortunately also his death. I'm surprised Buzzjack rate this so highly but I guess it is a proper classic.

#2. Sophie Ellis-Bextor - Murder On The Dancefloor - Sophie got her biggest hit as a lead artist with this although it still couldn't go to #1. It's definitely one of the most remembered #2s in this list so unsurprisingly it challenges for #1 here, but Buzzjack's official favourite #2 hit of the 21st century is...

#1. Shakira - Whenever, Wherever - One of the unluckiest #2s of all time, going against the winners' single from Pop Idol otherwise it would've been one of the year's biggest #1 hits. It was also the start of Shakira's chart career in the UK which has been going for over 10 years. Well done to her.

8.77 1 Shakira - Whenever Wherever
8.66 2 Sophie Ellis-Bextor - Murder On The Dancefloor
8.55 3 Michael Jackson – Man In The Mirror
8.46 4 Destiny's Child - Lose My Breath
8.44 5 Daft Punk - One More Time

A full list of the results can be found in the OP.

Posted by: Chez Wombat Jun 28 2016, 01:21 PM

Very good winner, definitely one of the most 'shoulda been number 1s' of the 00s (not that it ever would've against Will Young!) and still sounds great today <3 The top 5 are all fantastic, but I am especially surprised at Daft Punk being up there ohmy.gif I did not think that to be an obvious BuzzFave, but very glad as it's such a classic and one of my all time favourite songs. I still much prefer it to Get Lucky and wish their roles were reversed, as great as that is.

Thanks Dan for running this, seemed a mammoth task and has been very fun to take part in and read through biggrin.gif
