Unless we get a big surprise name drop it could literally be anyone’s to take with the right promo, looks like we won’t be getting a huge #1 selling album but the market should be steady with the number of releases.

The releases aren’t as big as last year but there’s more of them due to the cancellations through the year with the pandemic!

I'll go for Gary Barlow as he's bound to have higher opening sales and proved with his last album (and of course all the albums with Take That) that he sells strongly over the Christmas period.

There's been a fair few high profile releases this year that are likely to sell well throughout Christmas tbh, but I'm not sure if any of them will significantly lead over the others in the way I expect Gary Barlow will.

^^ Really interested to see how Gary performs, he’s a proven album seller but there seems to be zero interest or excitement around the new album (even in the TT forum on here!)

Michael Ball & Alfie Boe albums usually do quite well around Christmas, since they have a Christmas album out they could be a contender for the Xmas #1 album.

I guess Gary Barlow deserves a shout out as well. I suspect the former.

Is there ever hype though? He's got a reliable fanbase and I imagine he'll be an easy, go-to present for mums everywhere.

if MacCartney III is out on Xmas week he has a chance too I reckon, he's seriously releasing more vinyl formats than Kyiie
clearly catering at the Beatles collectors ohmy.gif

I posted this in another thread:

McCartney III will be released on CD, vinyl and digital formats. The vinyl editions include a variety of colors: standard black, Third Man Records exclusive yellow-with-black-dots limited to 333 copies,[12] Third Man Records exclusive red limited to 3,000 copies,[13] #SpotifyFansFirst 130g Coke-bottle clear vinyl, is limited to 3,000 copies worldwide,[14] Newbury Comics exclusive pink limited to 1,500 copies,[15] Target exclusive green,[12] selected retailers exclusive blue[16][17] and other record stores exclusive white.[12]

I think Paul McCartney too - McCartney II was released in 1980 so this one coming out 40 years later is a pretty big deal. There are SO many formats available too as Bjork pointed out. Although there is a bit of backlash in the Beatles community - I've seen quite a few collectors calling it greedy and too much in a pandemic. Remains to be seen how much that will realistically dent sales though - I'm sure it'll do just fine.

If Kylie's album proved anything, I bet those people who are complaining about the amount of formats will still end up buying them!

Yeah I think Paul should get this pretty easily if he's releasing on Christmas week.

I went for the safe choice of Michael Buble but like last year there will probably be a surprise (it was Rod Stewart last year). It depends if any act can attract a large amount of physical sales to pull clear of the albums doing well on streaming.
