Can't wait for this. Been far too long!

Posted by: Liаm 16th May 2015, 01:43 PM

OMG YAAAASSS

So excited! She always brings it, and it's been far too long. About time <3

Posted by: piekun 17th May 2015, 02:58 PM

Cannot wait for this! I listened to Janet Jackson's Rhythm Nation 1814 last night in honor of the announcement and it's amazing how relevant the album still is both lyrically and musically.

Posted by: Davidson 17th May 2015, 07:12 PM

Rhythm Nation 2.0 would actually be amazing and be so so relevant in this day and age, as you say. The issues covered throughout the album have come right back into R&B and hip hop music given the current racial climate.

A Janet/Kendrick collaboration would be groundbreaking, please let it happen. He stans enough to sample her as well...

Posted by: Regina 17th May 2015, 07:16 PM

Only very recently delved into her music, but Rhythm Nation is utterly brilliant.

Posted by: Liаm 17th May 2015, 07:27 PM

Control, janet., Rhythm Nation 1814 and The Velvet Rope are all just iconic really, anything remotely like those will be a winner.

Black Cat, What Have You Done For Me Lately, All For You, Feedback, Nothing Really Matters, Nasty, If and Together Again are her greatest singles for me but there's SO much amazing stuff in her back catalogue. GAH so excited for this <3

Posted by: Davidson 17th May 2015, 07:39 PM

So glad to see Janet's incredible back catalogue getting so much love since this announcement. 1Xtra even played every single Janet UK Top 40 hit yesterday to celebrate, BBC recognising a forgotten icon.

Also they said that there is some announcement coming on May 28th. With the rumoured release date of the album being as close as July, think it would be the perfect time for a single to drop or at least have it announced.

Posted by: HausofKubrick 18th May 2015, 06:28 PM

'Rhythm Nation 1814' could be released today and still have the same strong message and impact it did all those years ago. 'The Velvet Rope' is my favourite album from her but so many are so so strong. I am excited to see what musical direction she is heading in now, especially with such a big gap between the last release! I need another 'Together Again' beauty <3 Commercial success or not, i am just thankful we are getting more music. What a woman.

I always forget how much I love Janet until I go back to explore her back catalogue.

I even love her more guilty pleasure songs like Make Me, Feedback and Just A Little While.

Ha return. Ha comeback. Ha relevancy after all these years.

She has drummed up big commotion for this record considering no-one was phased by her last two eras and Greatest Hit. Bar the tour obvs.

Posted by: Liаm 22nd June 2015, 01:25 PM

I like the slow jam vibe enough, but it's a bit underwhelming for a big comeback from a woman who's capable of what Janet is capable of.

Posted by: Regina 22nd June 2015, 01:38 PM

It's nice in a "slip on your slippers and have a mug of cocoa" kind of way.

Posted by: SKOB 22nd June 2015, 07:02 PM

This is plain lovely just mesmerizing, perfect sunday chillout track heart.gif

Posted by: barbaric_dan 23rd June 2015, 12:23 AM

Regina nailed it.

A nice buzz track.

Posted by: HausofKubrick 23rd June 2015, 02:58 PM

This isn't quite the HUGE comeback i was anticipating but it's a lovely little song nonetheless.

Posted by: Davidson 23rd June 2015, 03:00 PM

Unfortunately I also have to admit to being a little disappointed by the track. I am glad she has come back with a slow jam as they are so signature to her and it shows she is not desperately trying to modernise or re-invent what she does so well already. It is just this one is a little too repetitive for me and is more background music than something to jam to. Still, I am ecstatic to hear her voice on something new, it is as soothing and gorgeous as ever.

Still expecting a lot from the album. Janet is capable of soooo much, hence why she is one of my all time favs.

Posted by: ssiKiss 27th June 2015, 10:18 AM

I like this...a lot. Sounds like a Velvet rope track (still LOVE that album heart.gif) Could be THE reason I enjoy this tune? Especially as she tried too much with recent releases while this is the Janet I enjoy the most (classic, relaxed and '90 vibes all over).

Get me back on your team Janet! 9/10 for now happy.gif

The album version features J. Cole.

The song has clicked with me considerably over the past few weeks.

Posted by: Atonement 26th July 2015, 03:56 PM

This is one of my favorite pop releases this year.

I'm a bit sick and tired of nice songs that dare to be a bit out there flopping and generic crap tunes reigning the charts, so it would be good if this could be somewhat of a hit.

Posted by: Cremey 20th August 2015, 07:57 PM

Snippet of second single 'The Great Forever' is out now. Sounds great.

Album titled 'Unbreakable' and out in September supposedly?! Hope so.

OMG.

'Night', 'Dammn Baby' and 'The Great Forever' cry.gif

& I'm only half way through. I can't get over it.

Posted by: Davidson 30th September 2015, 10:05 PM

I never thought I'd say this but I'm actually so glad in the long run that she took a 7 year gap to make this album, because it has done her the world of good. It seems like she has come back with real intent and purpose, with something new to say and completely fresh. After one listen, I can already call this her best album since 'The Velvet Rope' (which is in fact in my top 5 albums of all time). I always hoped she would come back with something of this quality but after the last few records, I wasn't sure if she still had it in her.

I mean, some of these songs are just incredible. 'Dammn Baby', 'The Great Forever', 'Night', 'Take Me Away', 'Black Eagle' and 'Gon' Be Alright' are all absolutely perfect and time will tell which can stand beside the Janet classics, but I have a feeling many of them will easily. There is not one bad song throughout this entire record. She certainly saved the real highlights until the album release date.

Have a feeling this could be in strong contention for my AOTY after the one listen. It's a good day to be a Janet stan wub.gif

I concur, 'Unbreakable' is excellent! I'm pleasantly surprised. heart.gif

Posted by: Scherz 3rd October 2015, 11:03 AM

The album is really fantastic. It's slightly jarring how much she sounds like Michael in some of the tracks though..

Posted by: HausEveryWeekend 3rd October 2015, 02:07 PM

Album is incredible. She has lost precisely NONE of her special magic, sparkle and wonder.

Posted by: Liаm 3rd October 2015, 05:25 PM

This has to be my album of the year on first listen, I cannot believe she's come back this strong as much as I never doubted her wub.gif Take Me Away, The Great Forever and especially BURNITUP would be my holy trinity but it's all just so good, classic Janet and I'd agree it's her strongest since The Velvet Rope which is no mean feat. Incredible <3

Posted by: SKOB 3rd October 2015, 05:41 PM

I love the album, her best since All for You.. There are not many completely stunning highlights (except No Sleeep which refuses to get old) but it's fantastically solid album.

Posted by: Nick F1 3rd October 2015, 06:25 PM

yeah this album is absolutely amazing.

Posted by: dandystar 3rd October 2015, 10:18 PM

Hmmm. It doesn't seem to have enough interludes on it.

Posted by: Low Hanging Peen 3rd October 2015, 10:21 PM

She's so irrelevant now.

This no way matches Nutty or All For You.

Posted by: Scherz 3rd October 2015, 11:57 PM

No but seriously I can't get over how much she sounds like Michael. I can't believe nobody's mentioned it. I know that as you get older your voice can deepen but listening to her voice on say 'Together Again' and then 'BURNITUP', her voice is several octaves lower. I played it to my friend and asked who it was and she asked if it was one of the tracks from the Michael Jackson album released last year. It's blowing my mind!

Posted by: KWEEN_DEE 4th October 2015, 12:56 AM

This trumps her last two studio albums.

Posted by: Jaÿ 4th October 2015, 07:40 AM

wub.gif Purchased the album in HMV yesterday, it includes the two bonus tracks 'Promise of You' and 'Love U 4 Life'.

She's so irrelevant now.

This is predicted to go straight to #1 in the U.S. on sales predictions of somewhere in the 90-110k region.

33 years after releasing her first album, and after 7 years of total silence, that is one of the most impressive results I've seen this year. Not to mention the promo for the album has been very limited, beyond actually releasing the songs. For someone so far into their career, it's incredible how relevant she still is, however when she releases material as good as this, it helps me understand why that has stayed the case.

Posted by: Davidson 6th October 2015, 07:24 PM

Does that mean the sales of the CD's (along with the tour tickets) will go towards the overall total of sales of the album for this week's chart? If so, that could be brilliant for sales. Hopefully the sales do in fact count.

Posted by: Simon. 6th October 2015, 08:14 PM

I can't see them adding that much sad.gif at a push is say today's tour on sale would have gave her what 350 album sales?

Posted by: Davidson 6th October 2015, 08:25 PM

Why do you say that? They went up at 4pm, I booked mine at around 5:30 and the closest left was row M for the Glasgow date. I would imagine she has sold way more than 350 tickets between the four dates, and you couldn't buy tickets without having a CD included laugh.gif

Posted by: Simon. 6th October 2015, 08:28 PM

They only put an allocation of tickets on today though just Ticketmasters and they don't get many these days sad.gif the venues keep them to sell for themselves. I hope I'm completely wrong too btw.

Posted by: Davidson 6th October 2015, 08:34 PM

Ah right okay, fair enough.

I was hoping it could give her a small boost. I just would love her to at least stay top 10.

Janet Jackson Earns Historic Seventh No. 1 Album on Billboard 200 Chart

Janet Jackson debuts at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart with her new album, Unbreakable. It marks her seventh chart-topper and makes her just the third act to achieve No. 1 albums in each of the last four decades.

Unbreakable -- which was released on Oct. 2 -- arrives atop the chart with 116,000 equivalent album units earned in the week ending Oct. 8, according to Nielsen Music. Of that sum, the set sold 109,000 in pure album sales.

I listened to this in full again today and while I've been enjoying it for weeks, today's listen let me fully take in how grand it all is. Such beautiful and poignant lyrics and messages throughout. The Jacksons have always been good with their global/huge messages and ideals but this could be the album that explores them most tenderly and without the cheese that often comes with such sentiments. Songs like 'Well Travelled', while she is singing about herself, are so global at the same time. It's a beautiful album through and through and I'm so grateful she made it and with such love and honesty too.

Would it be too premature to say it's my second favourite Janet album? (After 'The Velvet Rope' ofc which will never be touched)... we'll see in a year or so~

The reason she has postponed the tour is an apparent cancer scare.

QUOTE
Janet Jackson is undergoing tests for throat cancer.

The 49-year-old singer recently revealed she is postponing the first dates of the next leg of her 'Unbreakable World Tour' - which was due to kick off on January 9 - because she has to undergo surgery and it has now been claimed doctors have discovered a tumour on her vocal cords.

A source told RadarOnline.com: "Doctors found a growth on Janet's vocal cords that could be serious.

It's a medical condition that has to be taken care of immediately."

Despite the health scare, Janet is still hoping to be back on the road later this year.

The insider added: "Janet said she knows that with prayers and her will, she'll be back out on the road in the spring or early summer."

A medical expert warned that the 'Together Again' hitmaker - who postponed shows in October to rest her voice - could be left unable to sing if she does have cancer as patients often need to have artificial voice boxes fitted in order to speak.

Heard this yesterday, absolutely livid, I had front row cry.gif

Posted by: Davidson 8th March 2016, 11:14 AM

so so gutted

janet and beyonce have always been the two I've dreamed of seeing live more than any other so having tickets for both was the most amazing thing for me. the email said it is postponed and they are refunding because they are not sure when it is being rescheduled to; I'm not really buying it. I have a feeling that the whole UK part of the tour will be scrapped completely.

Gutted was looking forward to finally seeing her ;-( ... also annoyed cos I didnt attempt to get Adele tickets as it was either side and cant be travelling up and down to London that much so didnt bother although probably highly unlikely would of got

So she has revealed that the real reason the tour is cancelled is because "there has been a sudden change" that means her and her husband "are planning their family" and she is under "doctor's orders to rest up". The way she put it is slightly strange, not sure if she is already pregnant or is going through some alternative route?

If it is the former I am thrilled for her and it would be the best reason for the tour to be called off.

I'm not sure what it means either, pregnancy wise, but I am obviously backing her the whole way and pray she can start the family she wants. I'm over the delays now, I hope she does reschedule (and she is adamant that she will) but it will be years away and right now I just want the best for her personally.

As if anyone is surprised. She hasn't completed a single tour this side of the Millennium. 'Starting a family' or not, Janet just doesn't have the work ethic.

I know it's not impossible or unheard of, but is she not a bit too old to be pregnant? She's about to turn 50 and women tend to have more trouble getting pregnant
past 35-ish.

Did she cancel her Number Ones tour here? Guess I was lucky to catch her back in 2011?

'Dammm Baby' video coming soon wub.gif

Added to some radio stations in the US and lyric video released. Won't do anything but finally something happening in terms of promoting this incredible record.

A decent video for an incredible song.

I'm still quite upset this is the only video / bit of promo (?) we've got thïis entire era. She's released one of the best albums of her entire career and hasn't been able to show it off to the world like it deserves. It has been fairly successful all things considered but it deserves so much more.

The song (Unbreakable) is total shite. But good to see her back. She needs to just drop that talking nonsense in her songs, just STFU and sing !!

I know I’m 5 years late but I’ve just listened to this album and it is FANTASTIC. Unbreakable, BURNITUP!, Dammn Baby, The Great Forever, Night and Take Me Away are spectacular. Wow I cannot wait to listen to Control, The Velvet Rope and Rhythm Nation 1814 now.

Why did I dismiss Ms. Jackson for so long? She’s been serving it to us since 1986.
