Dexton's Top 40 (15/05/2017) (Week 53)
Earning their second #1, Bastille return to the chart with the lead single Quarter Past Midnight from their upcoming third album debuting at the top. The band previously made it to #1 on Craig David's I Know You late last year and now join the exclusive club of artists with more than one #1 here! Unlucky news for Ariana Grande's No Tears Left To Cry (1-2) though as her run at the top is cut short. Blossoms' There's A Reason Why (I Never Returned Your Calls) (4-3), Avicii's Friend Of Mine featuring Vargas & Lagola (2-4), and Billie Eilish & Khalid's Lovely (3-5) close the Top 5. Kendrick Lamar's Love featuring Zacari climbs into the Top 10 giving Kendrick his second Top 10 hit after his collaboration Pray For Me with The Weeknd, whilst George Ezra's Shotgun climbs back into the Top 10 after debuting at #6 8 weeks ago. Notable climbers this week are Robinson's Nothing To Regret (19-15), Liam Payne & J Balvin's Familiar (37-19), Cardi B's I Like It featuring J Balvin & Bad Bunny (35-21), Labrinth, Sia, & Diplo's Genius (36-24), Client Liaison's World Of Our Love (26-25), Post Malone's Spoil My Night featuring Swae Lee (40-26), and Dennis Lloyd's Nevermind (31-30). Cardi B is warming on me more and more each week, although with the release of Rita Ora's Girls featuring Charli XCX, Bebe Rexha, & Cardi B she continues her ratio of hit & miss with me. Despite the allstar cast it's a fairly average song that seems to have pissed off about half of the people in the world and probably won't chart here New entries aside from Bastille come from RAYE's Crew featuring Kojo Funds & RAY BLK (#33), Labrinth, Sia, & Diplo's Audio (#38), and Troye Sivan's Bloom (#39). RAYE's last single Cigarette featuring Mabel & Stefflon Don only made it to #26 here although Check with Kojo Funds was a Top 3 hit and Decline featuring Mr Eazi made it to #1. Will Crew outpeak the last singles? Ray BLK is also a returning artist after featuring on Gorillaz's The Apprentice featuring Rag'n'Bone Man, Zebra Katz & of course RAY BLK which charted here exactly a year ago (see the below Retro Chart) and then the #17 peaking single Doing Me. At first I preferred Audio to Genius of the LSD project's releases but I've found myself going back to Genius much more and reminds me of an edgier Elastic Heart Troye Sivan makes his debut appearance on the chart with Bloom. Over in the album chart, Blossoms' continue their run at the top with their second album Cool Like You. Post Malone reaches a new peak though as Beerbongs & Bentleys climbs to #2 after 2 weeks at #3 followed closely by George Ezra's Staying At Tamara's (4-3). RAYE's EP Side Tape debuts at #4 which features Decline, Cigarette, and Crew. Although missing the Top 3 alltogether, RAYE's EP wasn't half as disappointing as Arctic Monkeys' Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino - their first album in 5 years. Hello Dexton!
Great debut for Bastille at #1 and I like the big gains for "Shotgun" (so... is it official, is this his follow-up after "Paradise"?, great song though, would really see it as a hit in the summer!) and "I Like It"! Great chart as always! |

Hey Dexton!
Wow @ Bastille entering at #1, didn't realise you were such a fan I absolutely loved the Bad Blood album but I thought Wild World was quite a step down tbh and on first listen Quarter Past Midnight sounds around the same level but I will give it continued listens and hopefully it will grow! Good to see Blossoms top 3 and George Ezra back in the Top 10, hoping it's going to become another hit for him. Troye's new single doesn't sound as good as his last one but I'm still looking forward to the album. 'Audio' is nowhere near as genius as 'Genius' is - are they doing a whole album together, do you know?! |

Great to see Bastille enter at #1, fantastic song I'm so excited for their third album! Quarter Past Midnight is such a euphoric song, hopefully there's more like this to come Hello Dexton! Great debut for Bastille at #1 and I like the big gains for "Shotgun" (so... is it official, is this his follow-up after "Paradise"?, great song though, would really see it as a hit in the summer!) and "I Like It"! Great chart as always! Hey sergej! Shotgun is definitely the official next single! It's radio support is beginning this week apparently so hopefully it'll give George Ezra another hit Thanks! Hey Mango! #1 Bastille fan right here I wayyy preferred Wild World tbh and go back to it much more, but Flaws & Pompeii are a 11/10 duo that can't be beat Quarter Past Midnight is making me think the new album will definitely be a more chilled out/introspective look compared to Wild World which I can't wait for I think Shotgun could be a Top 15 hit for George, it did really well when the album was released so hopefully a swift climb back up the chart is coming Yep theres a whole album coming for 'LSD'! There's no release date or album name yet but we know it's definitely coming. I don't think they'll get a hit from it but I don't think they're hoping for one anyway Labrinth is neither here nor there for me but Genius is Sia's best offering in such a long time tbh, Diplo too Thanks for commenting! |

Ello sausage!
Not surprised to see a Bastille debut at number 1 - another band we both share love for; though this new one hasn't hit me yet. I found the stuff from their first album (plus "Torn Apart") instant but since then their tracks have all had to grow on me. Quite quiet otherwise - I see a low entry for AMs in your albums; not a fan then? I've listened a fair few times now and I'm *kinda* starting to enjoy it? Really liking "Four Out Of Five" as a track in particular; the album itself works nicely whilst I'm working. So that's something at least. Also I have checked the Blossoms album out a couple of times and that seemed decent enough too. Actually need to give their debut a go!!! |

Hi Dexton!
Nice to see Blossoms so high! I'm really hoping they can become a chart force in the future, great to see them get a couple of songs in the Top 100 this time anyway! I think I'm preferring this new one to I Can't Stand It as well Genius has really grown on me actually! It's quite unique when I come to think of it, I should probably check their other track out also! Great chart |

Also I have checked the Blossoms album out a couple of times and that seemed decent enough too. Actually need to give their debut a go!!! In all fairness some of the Wild World album tracks took a few listens to grow on me, but now it's one of my favourite albums But this was very instant I liked AM (the album) but this isn't doing much for me tbh. It's nice enough to have on in the background I guess but there's better albums I'd rather be playing... Blossoms' debut is a great album, the extended edition does drag on a little bit but even that has a few good songs Hi Dexton! Nice to see Blossoms so high! I'm really hoping they can become a chart force in the future, great to see them get a couple of songs in the Top 100 this time anyway! Great chart Hi Pete At this rate I think they'll grab their first Top 40 hit when they reach their 4th album Audio isn't as good as Genius tbh, it's nice enough and will probably grow on me more with the album's release but for now Genius is more than enough LSD Thanks for commenting! |
