Interesting article here. Nice to know that if we do win sometime then Rté WILL host. And most likely at the Aviva! ohmy.gif

QUOTE
RTÉ would discuss a potential change of approach to the contest “in the next few weeks”, he said.

*.*

Thank GOD. Internal selection? Perhaps choosing from the copious amount of talent this country has rather than presenting five dull acts that have been given average songs to sing?

This is nice to read, all the same. Just reassures me that Rté are actually aware of what the contest entails these days!

Ireland has huge talent and RTE do appear to put work into Eurosong but i think whoever is in charge of Eurosong needs to change, without Jedward there was no song that would have even stood a chance of qualifying this year and in fact i would say if any of the other songs went through they would have came bottom 3 in the semi final.

Eurosong needs to add more upbeat modern songs with a European buy yet Irish feel, i believe most of the Eurosong songs are taoilered to an Irish audience and even the Irish audience dont take to the songs let alone those of us who dont live in Ireland.

I haven't watched this years Eurovision yet (Is saved on my Sky box ready to watch. tongue.gif). But I actually bothered to listen to Waterline properly and have decided that Jedward are amazing! Only when it comes to their Eurovision tracks though. laugh.gif Lipstick was AMAZING, and Waterline is another great piece of pop, I love it. biggrin.gif

Their new album "Young Love" is being released on 22nd June and I'm really excited for it, from the clips of the songs I've heard off it, it sounds brilliant! biggrin.gif

San Marino is a funny one, they gave Ireland 12 points in the semi and then gave us nothing in the final.

What's up with that? huh.gif

Since there's about 35 people living in San Marino, I think it's just that about 20 of them didn't vote in the Semis. kink.gif

San Marino vote with juries. They can't use televoting as they use the Italian phone line system...

With a jury vote i would have though after getting a 12 in the semi the same jury would at least give 1 point in the final.

I think the only other song that would have had a chance was "Here I Am". I do think it could have definitely have qualified if the performance at Eurovision was really anthemic and strong. I don't think any of the other four songs would have had a hope though.

They really need to ditch those "Language of Love" type songs though. I could deal with almost any other type of song going to Eurovision, but if something like that was sent I'd be horribly horribly embarrassed for our country.

They should have some kind of wildcard selection like what some other countries do. Put up a hundred or so songs on the internet and have people vote for a wildcard. (or two) We need some outside influence when it comes to picking songs for Eurosong.

Lastly, I wouldn't be surprised if we had a Voice of Ireland reject in the eurosong lineup next year. There are some good quality singers from that with the right song could definitely qualify for us.

They'd be hilare though. And really, are we going to send anything that's genuinely good? Better to send something hilariously shit.

I think Nikki Kavanagh said she'd try again but only if Jedward weren't involved. So, 2013?

At the time when Nikki entered, i did think she should have went through to Eurovision over Jedwards Lipstick, however, once Jedward went to Eurovision and staged Lipstick so well i felt the right decision was made as i dont believe Nikki would have done as well as they achieved. Again, that does not mean im saying she shouldnt try again, she has the voice and stage presence if she can come up with a decent flavoured song suitable for Eurovision.
