Thank you for all the suggestions for your chart flops of 2001, now we look at the next year, 2002. What songs do you remember from this time and why do you remember them fondly? These could be songs that failed to make the UK Top 40 Singles Chart, or even the Top 75, but they have to have been released as a single at some point during the year.

I will nominate something in a little while that I personally enjoyed in this year, but for now, it’s over to you. happy.gif

Well thanks to it being a BJSC entry of mine and yes as Bré points out with the potato quality video.. this is the first to immediately spring to mind. Peaked at 57 in August.

Also this from Bowling From Soup reached 67. Another decent track by them imo.

but the biggest one I noticed looking through the OCC charts was this very well known Norah Jones song 'Come Away With Me' which peaked at... 80 ohmy.gif for such a well known song. I'm surprised it didn't get a re-release push or something!

This was on Hits 53, and had quite a bit of airplay at the time - her tone reminded me of early Christina. Alas, I think the single was cancelled as it never charted.

This lady had her own channel on Sky TV for months, purely to promote this single release. It rotated the video and showed documentaries about her. It wasn't a bad song - fit the Clubland boom at the time - and I did buy the CD single, but it only peaked at No.43 despite all the effort.

The Eurovision winner...was the third in a row not to chart in the UK (the next two did chart low down). What sometimes did well back then seems so bizarre now, not sure I could see it even making the final in this day and age.

Fantastic track, a Prince cover, sadly there was some sort of chart eligibility issue - I can't remember what - that meant it was restricted to a No.55 peak.

A Danish No.1 the year before, it was primed for a UK release and was predicted to go top 20 here and appeared on some compilations, but the release was cancelled I think.

A cover of the 80s Opus hit by the formidable pairing of DJ Otzi and Hermes House Band...peaked at No.50 here.

Anyone remember Weekend Players? They had a minor hit in 2001 and then in March 2002 they gave us this #42 chilled dance tune;

It would have debuted at No.10 but the CD Single sales were deemed ineligible because it had 4 tracks on it (the rules only allowed 3 at the time) so only the 12" sales counted I think. Pretty discriminatory rules to dance singles which usually had plenty of mixes, and the limit of 20 minutes running time seemed similarly targeted at the genre.

This got to #67 in September 2002, and was a deserved Top 10 hit for Trifoski in BJSC a few years back.

Oh yeah that Norah Jones track as well is of course well known. That LF track must be the follow up to 'Free'. Will check that!

The recent thread about Samantha Mumba reminded me of her brother Omero Mumba who had a UK #42 in July 2002 with Lil Big Man but it currently doesn’t appear on YouTube. laugh.gif

We waved hello to David Guetta for the first time in the charts in 2002 with his un-remixed single Love Don’t Let Me Go with Chris Willis. It was reached #46 in August 2002 and was later re-released as part of a remix with The Egg in 2006 where it peaked at #3. Here is the original version released in 2002;

Last year saw lots of criticism for overuse of the sample originally by Robert Miles in his 90’s hit Children, and here was another sample with a club theme that peaked at #45 in August 2002;
