Spider-Man is joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe under a new deal between Sony Pictures Entertainment and Marvel Studios.
The move will allow Spider-Man to appear alongside Iron Man, Captain America, Thor and others in future films.
The character will appear in an unspecified Marvel Cinematic Universe movie, while Marvel's Kevin Feige will produce the next Spider-Man with Amy Pascal due to hit cinemas on July 28, 2017.
US reports suggest that Andrew Garfield will not reprise his role as the character.
Sony Pictures will continue to finance, distribute, own and have final creative control of the Spider-Man films.

Pretty big news I think!!!!
Do we really need a 3rd Spider-man so soon? Poor Andrew.
Great move, but I don't understand why they had to ditch Garfield? A third Spiderman in 15 years already is mental.
Oh that's very exciting, I can't wait. I'm guessing he'll appear in 'Civil War' then!
Yeh it's a shame about Andrew though.
All the Marvel films (apart from Avengers 3) have been pushed back to the next release date ie Thor 3s pushed back to Black Panthers release date in November, Black Panther pushed back to Captain Marvel's release date etc
It's to accommodate for the Spiderman solo film which better not be another origin story. I think we can cope without having to see Uncle Ben dying again.
This is the most excited I've been about anything since the announcement of Pokemon: Omega Sapphire. I love Spider-Man but the newer films have been poor. Joining the Marvel cinematic universe is certainly what needed to happen.
If they're going to incorporate this with the whole Avengers catalog, I'm thinking that a.) they'll do what's been happening in the Ultimate Spider-Man TV show, and b.) go for the Miles Morales era. While I do want to see Andrew (and more importantly, Dane DeHaan) go for another movie, I feel like this is the route they're trying to go for with making that deal.
I'm absolutely excited about this. But it all seems very one-sided (Sony needing the Marvel Cinematic Universe, more than the other way around) but I'm ecstatic that they managed to come to some form of agreement to include Spidey in a Marvel movie or two! However, I agree with Rabbit Froot that we really, REALLY don't need to see the origin story. We get the idea of how he became Spiderman and how Uncle Ben dies etc...
I'm actually devastated that Garfield will not be the one to play Spidey in this though. He made a brilliant Spiderman, but it was everything else that was a let down for 'The Amazing Spider-Man' franchise. The shoddy scripts/messy directing/not much character depth etc... is what let it all down, imo. The casting for the most part were flawless (Garfield/Dane/Emma/Jamie Foxx etc..). They also want a YOUNGER guy playing Spidey as they want him back in high school! (I had NO idea Garfield was 31 - genuinely thought he was about 24/25 )
The favourites to take the role on if they're going for another Peter Parker Spiderman are Logan Lerman ('Percy Jackson'/'Fury') and Dylan O'Brien ('The Maze Runner'/'Teen Wolf' (TV Series)) although none of them have been approached as of yet. However, I believe they'll go down the Miles Morales route and I think that's why they've agreed to this.
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 was a bit of a miss with me, the first one was miles better. I think the route they have taken with the Spiderman franchise sounds a lot better, most of the Marvel movies have been fantastic, The Amazing series seems a bit ropey, I think Marvel will do a better job with it. As for the future, as I'm reading through, I don't think they are going to bother with another origin film, as Spidey will get a cameo role in Civil Wars.
