I think a female doctor and male companion would be brilliant ohmy.gif

It would either work and keep the series totally fresh or mark the end of it. That wouldnt be a bad thing though, cos it would come back in 10 years time totally rejuvinated, like this era of Doctor Who did with Christopher Ecclestone.

Hmm, I don't think it would be a good idea getting a female doctor.
It's always been a man, and anyway Hartnell (first doctor) was a man so why would he change into a woman? He'd still be a man inside if you get what I mean.

But the doctor isnt human, so theres actually no need for him to take the form of a man - some sort of complication could see him take the form of a woman quite easily next time he needs to regenerate!

No but he is male, not female. There's been 10 men so why would it suddenly choose a woman when he regenerates?
He is a timelord. Romana was a timelady, so she regenerated into another woman.

I don't think it'd happen anyway. Too many fans would complain.

Haha we just cant agree tonight tongue.gif

It was mentioned in the other doctor who thread, i think...

Personally i think he should leave in episode one of the 4th season, and martha should stay for all of season 4. Its better if both the doctor and assistant last two seasons, and each season one is replaced, if that makes sense?

ie. Christopher season 1, David 2 & 3
Rose seasons 1&2, Martha 3&4

^Yeah I get what you mean. In the past companions have stayed on when the doctor changed and it didn't really matter.
Also, was the bit about him leaving from The Sun? If so they probably got it wrong.

Infact, I think I actually read that in The Sun.
I wouldn't believe what The Sun says.

im not sure i hope this isnt true, if freema was that bad in the following episodes why let her continue?? it seems stupid to let her do one season. But as this came from the Sun, ill wait for it be confirmed first

i think martha is really good, DT does my head in more tbh, but i dont think the scripts have been as good as previous series which impacts on the acting...i mean look at EE

maybe they should just go for a totally different assistan altogether? laugh.gif Like a male one, or one that's not from Earth or something.

Excellent idea, there is nothing to say that the Doctor's assistants have to be "human" at all... The Doc's had a fair few humanoid/alien assistants... And a fair few male assistants as well... Quite often he's had both male and female assistants at the same time... Paradoxically though, to my knowlege, never actually a lone male assistant... I suppose the show's producers would be a bit scared of that seeming a bit "gay".... laugh.gif laugh.gif Especially seeing as how Tenant is such an effeminate little man as it is.... laugh.gif laugh.gif

I cant see Russell T Davies doing an alien assistant though, he's way too Earth-centric in his approach to Dr Who....

Back to the original point of the thread.

Someone on digitalspy e-mailed the BBC about the story in the Sun.

This is the reply they received today:

Thank you for your e-mail regarding 'Doctor Who'. I am pleased to read you enjoy the programme and feel Freema is a great addition to the programme. There are no plans at present to replace Freema and please be aware that at present the story you read is an unsubstantiated rumour. Please be assured your appreciation of Freema has been registered and made available to the programme makers. For the latest news about 'Doctor Who', please visit the show's website at: http://www.bbc.co.uk/doctorwho/ Thank you again for contacting the BBC. Regards JonnyBBC Information

Hardly a ringing endorsement along the lines, the Sun has printed a load of lies and rubbish is it?

I think this is true, and apparently David Tennat will only be in half of the fourth series.

If this is true, BBC are hardly going to confirm it half way through the current series.
