The Best Song Contest in the World... Ever! is back for it's fourth edition and this time we're going back to the 1970s and rocking out. Any type of rock music can be entered, it could be classic rock, prog rock, punk rock, glam rock, heavy metal, soft rock, pub rock, yacht rock or possibly some new wave if it's guitar based.

The song you enter must have been released for the first time as a single or an album track from 1970 to 1979 and, as always, top 10 singles will be vetoed as well as any other songs that the mods might consider to be too well known. Please also avoid any songs that have been entered into other song contests around the forum.

This is an anonymous contest so please do not reveal which song you sent until the results happen.

When you have decided what to enter, please send the details to myself by PM with the following information:

Artist:
Title:
Youtube link:

I will inform participants as soon as I can if there are any artist clashes.

The closing date for entries will be Friday 8th September at 23.59 BST.

OOH on paper this theme isn’t necessarily the best fit for me (my 50s and 70s knowledge is the weakest) but I actually do have something that I think would work for this, so confirmed nice and quick.

This theme might actually tempt me to sit out on this occasion, and given there are lots of other contests going on it might not be a bad thing. I wouldn’t even know when to begin with this era sorry.

A bit of a challenging theme indeed but I'm sure I should be able to find something ~

I've submitted a song from my mum's favourite album from when she was a teenager. I heard it a lot when I was growing up so, in the lack of having any knowledge of the era and genre, at least this song means something to me.

Looks like I'll be deep diving into some playlists - not a clue what to send here, I can't even draw on my parents' taste as they were fully disco laugh.gif looking forward to discovering a lot though!

Think I'll have to pass on this one, know nothing on 70s rock or even 70s :/
and also the judging other songs part would be too much :/

For me it makes it more interesting that I know absolutely nothing about the theme. smile.gif

This demands some research!

Totally outside my music knowledge, but that won’t stop me.

Why would the theme have any bearing on your ability to judge the songs?

I get that. It’s the same reason I usually don’t enter the pop forum contest and I’m a less frequent participant in Nuggets, I just know there’s a stronger chance that I won’t enjoy many of the entries.

I don’t really know what to expect from 70s rock, I’m not massively familiar with it. Although I’m not a huge fan of the albums that are often cited as classics (Dark Side of the Moon, Night at the Opera, Hotel California etc) so I’m proceeding with slight caution here laugh.gif

I do like 70s Bowie though so there is hope

You said you don't know anything about 70s rock, not that you don't like it. Fair though x

The five songs sent so far are all very good and certainly worth listening to. They are also quite varied in terms of the type of rock music. Keep the entries coming.

We're up to 13 entries now. Today is the last day to confirm something. This will be a song contest unlike any previous ones on the forum so make sure you don't miss out.
