She's shooting something else now! Does this girl ever stop?

Posted by: blacksquare 4th August 2019, 05:06 PM

The best thing about this album, other than the album itself, is it should free her from her ridiculous label expectations.

She can clearly create music at an impressive rate, so hopefully, there should be less of a fight against them and quicker turnarounds on full projects.

She's releasing another new song in a couple of weeks 😭

She came to them laugh.gif

When asked "Favorite The 1975 song?" on her Instagram Q&A

"I like DEEPLY love the 1975. My fav song is I Like America & America Likes me. Like I wish I was singing that song. It feels kinda pop 2ish to me. I really wanted them to be a part of the new album. I went to visit them whilst they were in LA working on part of their record. We spoke about songs and pop music and it was gonna happen for a minute but then it didn’t (schedules / touring - reasons like that, nothing bad). I would love to make music with them. Matty has great pop sensibility. He’s very smart. I reference them in a song called Warm on the new album. If they’d been a part of the album I would have wanted them to be involved in this song with haim and I."

Charli talking about her nerves releasing the album and touring, and about supporting the other females around right now. She's such a doll!

Very early days but it currently has a score of 84 on metacritic *.*

I've just had a listen to this and it's...an experience. It's very out there and '1999' is easily the most poppy song and feels a bit out of place, so those who don't like the weird futuristic glitchy sound from pop 2 heard on 2099 for example might struggle but I ... think I'm here for it? I need more time for sure. I love the opening track instantly.

It doesn't take a lot to shock me with Charli but 'Shake It' is a full on wtf moment....I...

Posted by: Cremey 12th September 2019, 12:24 PM

Had an email to say my vinyl has been dispatched. Can’t wait.

I feel like I’ll love it after reading what Joe’s said about it. I was hoping it’d be more 2099 than 1999 or Blame It On Your Love, so that’s great. That’s the Charli I’m here for.

Pop 2 has a different vibe and intent to 2099 though, no? Pop 2 is pop turned up to the MAX with all guns blazing, 2099 is pop distorted but minimalised.

2099 I assume would work brilliantly as an album closer - removing all life and soul from pop music and looking to the future where sounds blend together and distort with vocals taking a back seat. I am so intrigued by how the album will work as a complete project.

Posted by: 365 12th September 2019, 05:40 PM

Hmm, it was just an example as others here already mentioned it reminded them of that, as pop 2 has its 'quieter' (for Charli) moments too. Not so much the melody but it's similar in a way that it has distorted all over the place production and is very odd structurally- there's a lot of that on here! 'Click''s outro is bonkers can't wait for you to hear.

I love White Mercedes wub.gif

Posted by: Cremey 13th September 2019, 06:39 AM

omg SHAKE IT

Posted by: Cremey 13th September 2019, 07:11 AM

Take away Blame It On Your Love and 1999 and this is exactly the album I wanted from her. They don’t fit in with the rest (especially BIOYL coming after Thoughts...)

Glad it ended up being so much better than the singles suggested. I can see why she released those though. From the first two singles I thought it’d seem watered down compared to the mixtapes but it doesn’t at all, great she could experiment on this as well. Can’t wait to see her do lots of these at Brixton, really interested to see who she brings out.

Posted by: 365 13th September 2019, 07:22 AM

https://pitchfork.com/reviews/albums/charli-xcx-charli/! - amazing! Not quite as high as the 8.4 for Pop 2, but 7.8 is VERY good. We love a critical darling.

Posted by: HausofF 13th September 2019, 07:27 AM

^ for that review Blame It On Your Love actually came first and Track 10 was a remixed version of it, but just released first apparently. Yay for a strong score though x

Listening to the album now *.*

Posted by: HausofF 13th September 2019, 08:24 AM

What an album. This fits so well in her discography. I f***ing love it 😭😭😭

Posted by: 365 13th September 2019, 08:28 AM

I love Silver Cross.

Shake It still a lot to take in

I don't need to listen to anything other than Shake It ever again

Posted by: RobBob 13th September 2019, 01:41 PM

Shake It is a MOMENT. It reminds me of “Beat Down” on acid.

Posted by: Bré 13th September 2019, 04:08 PM

Checked out 'Shake It' as the features on it looked interesting and actually what the hell did I just listen to xx

(I appreciate the boldness of her putting that on an actual commercial album and there were some bits of it I liked quite a bit - CupcakKe coming through with the ASMR flow, Big Freedia and Pabllo's parts were good too - but hahaha. Tbh I can see myself stanning it with a few more listens)

Have just listened to '2099' as well and I do like that quite a bit, wasn't at all what I was expecting but that's a bit more of an easily digestible level of experimental Charli x

EVERY SONG IS GROWING ON ME

Posted by: dannjohn 15th September 2019, 04:34 PM

I just dunno how she can make quality pop songs like ‘gone’, ‘warm’ or ‘miss u’ then garbage like ‘click’ ‘shake it’ or ‘vroom vroom’.

Posted by: Cremey 15th September 2019, 04:39 PM

Vroom Vroom garbage?

Click garbage?

Shake It garbage?

And Miss U being singled out as one of her best..?

Posted by: blacksquare 16th September 2019, 10:04 AM

I still can't deal with Shake It. Charli channeling her inner Busta Rhymes and serving us with this alien poppers version of Touch It

We are not worthy~

Posted by: dannjohn 16th September 2019, 08:02 PM

Charli excels with tracks like:

Miss u
Need ur luv
Tears
Lucky
Doing it
I dont wanna know
Warm
Cross you out
Gone
Cloud Aura

Things like:
Click
Shake it
Vroom vroom
I got it
UnLock it

are just irritating and a stain on her discography

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 16th September 2019, 08:23 PM

Guess I'm not allowed to listen to Vroom Vroom anymore then sad.gif

Posted by: 365 16th September 2019, 08:27 PM

Vroom Vroom is even Charli's favourite of her tracks (and video too? It's a Hannah Lux Davis one I think?)

being interesting and innovative VS being a basic faceless bitch *cough*avamax*cough*

Official just hit me

Such a simple song for her but so well done. The gradual but subtle build in the production, the lyrics — a beautiful moment on the album.

don't go off her opinion too much... she once told me that no-one liked 'tears', 'need ur luv' and 'cloud aura' and that's why she doesn't bother performing them...

charli's a crowd pleaser and bloody good at it too... (its why the 'I Love It' situation happened... )

there's noting basic or faceless about enoying a pop melody?

To be fair there were only 4 dates on the tour, makes more demand for the bigger venues.

Had she done say 10 slightly smaller venues in a full UK tour, I doubt Brixton would have sold out.
