I love how Alice Levine now plays the number 41 record right at the end of her Sunday show so I thought it would be interesting to make a record of those who just missed out on the top 40 but can still boast a Radio 1 play as the number 41 and whether it only reached that position, dropped out that week or later climbed.
The rules for inclusion state that the number 41 record must have actually been broadcast so if for example the chart only gets a five minute slot at One Big Weekend as usual then it will not be included. Also if it climbs to that position having already been top 40 before then it will be defined as a re-entry.
7/9/2014 - A Great Big World feat Christina Aguilera - Say Something (Re-Entry, later climbed to #26)
14/9/2014 - MKTO - Classic (dropped out)

23/11/2014 - Magic! - Rude (dropped out)
30/11/2014 - Magic! - Rude (non-mover)
7/12/2014 - Jeremih - Don't Tell 'Em (dropped out)
14/12/2014 - George Ezra - Listen To The Man (peak)

1/2/2015 - Ed Sheeran - Sing (dropped out)
8/2/2015 - Jay-Z/Linkin' Park - Numb/Encore (Re-Entry)
15/2/2015 - Number 42 played instead due to number 41 artist having already been played earlier
22/2/2015 - Ed Sheeran - Don't (dropped out)
1/3/2015 - Mike Mago and Dragonette - Outlines (dropped out)
8/3/2015 - Fergie - L.A. Love (La La) (dropped out)
It'd be nicer if she played the highest new entry outside the top 40
if only this had begun when Sirens charted
Didn't JME have a song at #41 as well?
Sub Focus has two #41s in 2010 consecutively.
Then he started releasing bland sub par stuff, and got T40 hits.
JME was also #41 earlier this year with German Whip in its second week!
Remember Angel had a few in 2012 too (Go In, Go Hard and another).
Didn't know Radio 1 do this until I read this thread. Pretty cool idea!
This old thread tells you all the number 41 peaks.

Jamie T is this week's latest addition with Zombie.
Poor Maroon 5 become the very first act to miss out on a number 41 play with Maps due to the Teen Awards, not a huge loss anyway imo.
Wilkinson and Taley Riley's massive drop with Dirty Love falls into comfort by being the number 41 play this week.
It's a shame these have all been dropouts so far, apart from the very first one which was just an ancient song on its way to re-entering. Will be much more interesting the next time something peaks at #41.
Charli XCX breaks the run of dropouts this week by enjoying a 3.55pm airing with Boom Clap, it's likely to be the first tune to have climbed to that now broadcastable position not to go any further although it has already enjoyed top 10 success.
A previous entry from One Republic with Love Runs Out becomes the first to rebound to the top 40 this week since the #41 airings started re-entering at #38.
Henry Krinkle's Stay becomes the first ever single to get a play as a #41 peak!
Black Widow ends an impressive run by landing in the #41 cushion.
Magic! with Rude is not only the first entrant to made two broadcast appearances as the number 41 but also the first to be played in that position for successive weeks!
Listen To The Man marks the first occasion a new entry has been played at number 41 before it's expected climb to the top 40.
Capital never play rock, indie or alternative for some reason
All of Me ends it's mammoth top 40 run by earning the last few minutes of it's preceding show.
It's looking likely that Listen to the Man is set to become the second #41 peak in this position's broadcasting era.
Although he is this week's 41, poor Mr Probz with Waves is still denied a place on the list due to a catastrophic error which meant Prayer in C was played as that position instead!
18/1/2015 - No play due to wrong record being played
I think you should highlight what was number 41 and what was played instead
The Weeknd makes history as the first single to be played at #41 then climb to the main show for the first time the following week!
A playlist cock up resulted in no play for Blame It On Me at number 41 as George Ezra had already been played with his new single earlier on the programme, instead for the very first time the number 42 record was played instead so no inclusion for Blame It On Me.
With speculation that the chart show could be moving to a different day. this could mean no more number #41 plays.
Also decided to get rid of rebounds for those that dropped out as I feel they add nothing.
