Chart Commentary

In a relatively quiet week for my chart, there's only one new song in this week's top 10. British singer/songwriter Declan McKenna jumps 15 places up to #3, scoring his very first chart hit. Humongous is the seventh (!) single from Declan's debut album What Do You Think About the Car?, which spends a second week at #1 on my album chart, but his very first hit in my chart. It follows Brazil, Paracetamol, Bethlehem, Isombard, The Kids Don't Wanna Come Home, and a Brazil re-issue. Brazil actually makes a belated impact this week, debuting at #20 - it's worth noting that I hadn't heard it before his album so I'd have likely charted it sooner had I known it!

Declan McKenna
2017 03 Humongous | 7 | 18-3-... (2+ weeks)
2017 20 Brazil | 1/6 | 20-... (1+ weeks)

It's rare that the highest new entry isn't within my top 10, only happening a handful of times each year, but this is one of those weeks. Four new songs are in this week's top 20 but none made the top 10. Two of them come from former Fifth Harmony member Camila Cabello, who enters at #13 with Havana and #15 with OMG. They make for her fifth and sixth chart hits, and the second time this year she has had concurrent top 20 hits, after Crying in the Club and I Have Questions both made the top 10 in the same week, at #4 and #9 respectively. Havana makes for the first chart appearance of Young Thug, while OMG is the third chart hit for Quavo.

Camila Cabello
2015 05 I Know What You Did Last Summer (Shawn Mendes & Camila Cabello) | FEAT | 16-33-X-22-20-19-20-27-36-X-39-X-8-5-8-16-22-30-34-X (16 non-consecutive weeks)
2016 23 Bad Things (Machine Gun Kelly & Camila Cabello) | FEAT | 37-23-26-32-36-38-X (6 weeks)
2017 04 Crying in the Club | 1 | 4-6-9-14-21-27-34-X (7 weeks)
2017 09 I Have Questions | PS | 9-17-29-38-X (4 weeks)
2017 13 Havana (feat. Young Thug) | 2/3 | 13-... (1+ weeks)
2017 15 OMG (feat. Quavo) | 2/3 | 15-... (1+ weeks)

Young Thug
2017 13 Havana (Camila Cabello feat. Young Thug) | FEAT | 13-... (1+ weeks)

Quavo
2017 11 I'm the One (DJ Khaled feat. Justin Bieber, Quavo, Chance the Rapper & Lil Wayne) | FEAT | 11-16-29-38-X (4 weeks)
2017 18 Strip That Down (Liam Payne feat. Quavo) | FEAT | 18-32-X-40-34-37-X (5 non-consecutive weeks)
2017 15 OMG (Camila Cabello feat. Quavo) | FEAT | 15-... (1+ weeks)

Elsewhere in the chart, we have debuts from Joey Bada$$ and Yxng Bane, the latter of whom featuring on Bestie with Yungen. Yungen is riding high in this week's chart, as his track Hands with KStewart is a non-mover at #2. They fail to unseat Louis Tomlinson, who ties the record for most weeks at #1 in 2017 with bandmate Harry Styles, whose Sign of the Times also spent three weeks at the top.

In the album chart, Kesha debuts at #2 with Rainbow. It's her second #2 album after Warrior, although considering it had less than 24 hours to impact when I typed up my chart on Friday night (11th August), it's looking like a strong contender for next week's #1.

Hey Joseph,

I'm sorry I've not made an effort to comment on your chart in a while, but I hope that can change in the future!

No surprises to see who you have at #1, but it's not a song I'm a fan of sadly. I can't even tell Digital Farm Animals are anywhere in the production at all!

I do appreciate seeing female artists like Kesha, Dua Lipa, Demi Lovato, Charli XCX and Selena Gomez all in your Top 10! cheer.gif

I see you're also a fan of Havana, I hope that takes off soon, the other one OMG featuring Quavo can be left on the shelf. nocheer.gif

Other personal highlights are Little Mix, Hailee Steinfeld, Martin Garrix, ALMA, Yungen, Katy Perry, Jax Jones and George Ezra. happy.gif

Please be sure to check out my chart for this week — Top 40 Countdown by awardinary (W/E 17/08/2017).

Awesome chart! cool.gif

Hey Joseph!

1. Louis Tomlinson feat. Bebe Rexha & Digital Farm Animals - Back to You - 8-1-1-1-
3. Declan McKenna - Humongous - 18-3- ** HIGHEST CLIMBER ** Glad to see him doing so well in your chart, the album is decent too!
4. Kesha - Praying - 1-3-3-5-4-
7. Dua Lipa - New Rules - 4-5-7-7-7- I still find it really surreal to think that this is going to be No. 1 on Friday lol
8. Demi Lovato - Sorry Not Sorry - 2-4-6-10-8-
9. Charli XCX - Boys - 29-9-9-
13. Camila Cabello feat. Young Thug - Havana - 13- ** HIGHEST NEW ENTRY ** I definitely prefer this to OMG, and it sounds a bit different to anything in the charts atm so I hope it does well

18. Snakehips & Anne-Marie feat. Joey Bada$$ - Either Way - 18- Probably not their best but they haven't done a bad song yet! Really wish Anne-Marie would stop featuring on other people's songs though and get on with her solo career, what's she playing at sad.gif

20. Declan McKenna - Brazil - 20-

26. ALMA - Chasing Highs - 15-13-17-19-26-
29. P!nk - What About Us - 29- I'm probably biased being a big P!nk fan but I think this is great. She never disappoints heart.gif great to see her get another big hit!
30. Yungen feat. Yxng Bane - Bestie - 30- A bit like 'Unforgettable' I quite like this even though it's not my usual cup of tea.

Hi Joseph!

Great climb for Humongous! #1 next week possibly? (or will it just fall like every other song is doing tongue.gif )

Given the Isaiah song a listen, really loving it! Really don't know why his Eurovision hit didn't click with me whatsoever laugh.gif

Nice to see a belated Brazil entry as well! biggrin.gif Declan holding the #1 album is great as well!

Great chart biggrin.gif
