Chart Commentary

Firstly, thanks to those who keep commenting on my chart, I'll be returning the favour this week!



Last Saturday, Scottish singer Ryan Lawrie's X Factor audition was aired. He performed Oh Cecilia (Breaking My Heart) by The Vamps (a #1 in my chart 2 years ago) and sailed through to boot camp after mostly positive comments from the judges, although Simon questioned the song choice. Ryan actually made my chart in June this year, with his single If Only reaching #6. It re-enters this week after the X Factor exposure allowing me to revisit the song, and reaches a new height, achieving his own #1.



Just behind Ryan this week is Dua Lipa, who has jumped 16 spots with new single Blow Your Mind (Mwah) to #2. This marks a new career peak for the British singer, with previous hits Be the One and Hotter Than Hell making #5 and #4 respectively. Last Dance failed to make my chart and I have not heard her debut single New Love! Dua is one of the most exciting new artists around for me and is no doubt one to watch with her further material, and eventual album release in February 2017.

Re-entering at #10 this week is Ariana Grande with Side to Side, the third single from the album Dangerous Woman (a #1 in my chart). It follows the top 5 hits Dangerous Woman and Into You, and becomes her eighth top 10. Side to Side features Nicki Minaj, who notches up her 10th top 10 hit, although only two of those are as a lead artist. Side to Side re-enters after the VMAs performance and the video release, having initially charted as an album track. The VMAs have barely impacted the rest of the chart, although the VMA Eazy Remix of Britney Spears' Make Me... is being combined with the original and has helped it continue to stay top 10 this week.

Elsewhere in my chart this week, The Tide climb back up after ther record-breaking fall from #1 last week. Click My Fingers jumps up 3 places to #4 following their concert in London on Thursday night, which I attended. The tour effect may continue into next week and boost previous single Young Love into the top 40 again. Just one week after their fall from #1, Mollie King also takes a hefty fall from the top, although not quite as big as the fall Click My Fingers suffered. Back to You falls 1-5 this week.

New peaks are achieved for Ben Weighill's Time After Time, Daniel Skye's Smile and Austin Mahone's Send It, and we see a chart debut from Swedish 16 year-old Eliias, with his single Det är dit vi ska new at #35. Halsey also sees a new career peak, with her Chainsmokers collaboration Closer new at #20. The highest new entry however comes from Fleurie (pictured) and her single Hurts Like Hell, which enters at #18. I heard this song while watching E4's Containment two weeks ago, in which it was featured quite heavily.

aww i was hoping Dua Lipa was #1 here. 'Blow Your Mind' is another great single from her.

all these one-week #1s giving me UK chart circa 2011 teas tho, my chart is the opposite with a 12-week #1 ontop.

Dua was a big contender for #1 and it's definitely possible that she could still make it, I think Blow Your Mind (Mwah) is contending for my favourite song she's done so far

I didn't even notice all the 1-weekers until a few weeks ago! There's so much new music around right now that I'm finding it hard to keep up with everything :') I've never had even close to a 12 week #1 my longest consecutive run is the 6 weeks Conrad Sewell's Hold Me Up managed last year, and non-consecutive is Girls Aloud's Something New which got 8 weeks in total.

Dobbo - I have indeed heard it! I'm really quite liking it actually, Isac's voice is suited quite well to dance songs (most of his own material is dance/pop too)
