On the subject of Monolithic from the last few posts in the voting thread, I just checked Spotify again and it had this to say under the artist bio; “Monolithic is the alias of the Japan-born, New York based music producer and DJ Jun Torii.” so the person who sent this artist can be forgiven they have indeed followed the rules properly. Bré can apologise to them later when they are revealed.

Sorry for snubbing both my fellow dance mods, it was not intentional.

So yes, Monolithic was mine, and yes he is New York based (which I did state on the Google form at the time) but I also knew he was from Japan. It was not perhaps the most obvious entry, especially as it’s currently missing from Spotify, but when YouTube introduced me recently I saved the link just in case it would come in handy! ]

So it was Jade that sent the retro pick in another one of my contests, and a significantly timed one as sadly one of the members passed away recently. I'd never heard of them before but this synthy piece of glory was wonderful and does really make me want to check out more given how influential Japan were in the early synth music scene. Her votes put Monolithic back on top but C.Q.C are still in this. Now we leave Japan, we await to see if this Asian domination will remain.

It was quite spooky as I confirmed Yellow Magic Orchestra and then saw on Reddit just a couple of hours later that member Yukihiro Takahashi had died D: so an unintentional tribute, RIP. Soooo I may have been playing dumb a bit on SyncTube when one of their other songs was played earlier their style really sounds proto-Kraftwerk which is huge praise, need to check out more

A Club Bizarre debut now I believe for our favourite song from the Shrek soundtrack, sadly he is in last place at the moment with just two points received, but y'know what they say, the years start coming and they don't stop coming This was quite the departure in sound for the Vietnamese singer based on what I knew of her in BJSC, though it was a remix. His votes ensure WUKONG is back ahead, with Uhuru being the first African entry to potentially challenge.

Returning to Club Bizarre after missing the last edition, Leww certainly gets marks for diversity with not one but two nationalities covered and them being Ivory Coast and Guinea at that, sadly this atmospheric number hasn't quite caught on like the other African entries so far. His votes don't change things hugely at the top apart, but Monolithic continues to benefit and a second 12 for Logic Lost sees them rise up, and everyone has points now yay!

No one guessed me correctly this time so I pat myself on the back for that *. I do like a good hard drop sometimes, but I just loved the Asian traditional instruments combined with modern EDM, it's what I really look for in world dance and the visuals are very cool. Very grateful for the big scores so far, let's see if this can keep up x My votes bring us up to the halfway point and we have a new leader although it is still so close with just five points separating the top 5 that anything can happen.

It was Rollo who sent Nihiloxica, and he was clearly on the same wavelength as quite a few here, weirdly enough this was a remix rather than the original, and I haven't yet heard that but this one certainly brings the chaotic drum energy (though it's not quite the most chaotic African entry x). Nihiloxica hasn't quite lived up to the winning contender talk so far, but there's still time, he does give some proper Afro support though as Uhuru takes the lead with Umthandazo close behind and there's a bit of a boost to Kunitamale x

Another anonymous contest, another easy uhsting unmasking due to him charting this I can't be mad though, this brutal piece of IDM really is exactly what it's title says, but in a good way for me at least x uhsting initially changed entries to something more accessible from Japan before I lightly prodded him to keep it for variety, I expect credit if this does end up keeping it's performance now uhsting's votes are highly afro-flavoured and ensure the all-SA top 2 remains.

Yes, Detective Bre strikes again as Aspara, despite Dobbo putting her down as Japanese, is actually Indonesian at least according to most sources. Hooray for more diversity nonetheless *. Dobbo's entry is a classic slow building, subtle house song and also sounds quite like something that could be entered to a lot of these. His votes don't favour a lot of the contenders but allows Yellow Magic Orchestra to close the gap a bit.

So yes doing a little better than I expected but certainly not surprised that I'm not setting the scoreboard alight haha. I do love my entry otherwise I wouldn't have sent it but admittedly it was a case of me settling for a song that I'd otherwise have probably passed on in favour of something a bit more palatable if I hadn't been under such time pressure to reconfirm after my original entry was already a (later than) last minute pick oops! Glad a few of you have embraced the chaos those being -goes back through thread- Lewis, Chez, Cow Cow, Cody, Rich and Dobbo! (I also approved of the giraffe pic )

The track is fun for a bit of unbridled chaos and I wish I was there for the listenthrough to see the reactions bc I’m pretty sure everyone but maybe Iz absolutely hated it. I think I’ve learned my lesson from this though: experimentation is out and conformity is in 😔 thanks to everyone who voted her

I'm quite relieved that uhsting actually did win now after everyone was rooting for him and it was my favourite song in the contest so yay, congrats

3rd is a brilliant result for Yellow Magic Orchestra! I'm happy that a retro pick paid off. Edit: oh maybe 4th?

Karyendasoul was 11th for me but all the SA entries were lovely, glad that did well too! Thanks Dandy for the last few points, was definitely not expecting a top 15 finish so that's a great surprise (and fingers crossed I can beat Laur on that tiebreak )

My 12 pointer winning we absolutely love to see it. TerraJadaphonia bloc not voting for each other as much as usual but at least we all agreed on the 12. Congrats uhsting! (actually I now see this isn't your first song contest win oops, forgot you won a PFSC too, but congrats on a first Club Bizarre win anyway x Meanwhile I continue to sit here with my 100% participation but never finishing higher than 4th )

And indeed finishing with the top 6 all being songs I had in my top 7 so very little to complain about! Voted for 8 of the top 10 in all. Mr Raoul K deserved better, DNGDNGDNG too but that one isn't too much of a surprise.

Quite a gap between those 10!

A painful gap between 3rd and 4th there but I don't know how else to break the tie, sorry Jade </3

Nihiloxica and Funku Tribe did seem to come from nowhere at the end there, had I done it in order of receipt, they were leading for most of it, along with Logic Lost but it had a stellar last day and became impossible to catch from the penultimate vote! (Similar to Monolithic, they fell very low after starting well and shot back up on the last day)

Thanks so much for the kind words, guys and for participating, I really loved this edition and the smaller turnout was a lot less stress on me when compiling results as well!

I'm obviously super happy to see my 12-pointer winning, continuing my bellwether status here and all my top 3 in the top 10 with me *.* Some that I wish were a bit higher but it was a high quality edition and there were several I really wanted to point!

Yay 12th *.* (I did think I was likely to win that tiebreak but didn't want to be too overconfident x).

Nihiloxica and Yellow Magic Orchestra were both in my own top 4 so a shame for either of them to be denied the bronze but Nihiloxica was narrowly the better of the two for me. Does this mean that I would have finally got my first Club Bizarre top 3 if I'd been able to send them?

Congratulations uhsting! An interesting entry, I can see why it won even if I didn't vote for it. This has been fantastically hosted Chez, well done theme and very colorfully presented.

You know, I really thought 'LATHI' would do better, especially when I went on a Wiki walk and was reminded that I vaguely knew it and that it was basically one of the biggest Indonesian songs of the past few years. Good dancepop song too. And 'Grayscale' and 'C.Q.C' both deserved way better, both fantastic discoveries, thank you Dan and Cody.

I was really all or nothing with this entry, thank you to those that did give me enough to finish midtable, I knew it'd be quite abrasive but it IS definitely very me to be attracted to a song that is titled like itself and some of those spoken word moments really get me.

Sorry didn't show up for the results show but huge huge thank you for my first CB win after flopping all the time in the bottom 5. To win an edition of CB is an amazing experience, but to win it with an experimental dance is really something. I was terrified that it would flop hard and not be accessible, but it turns out it wasn't the case at all! Thank you Chez for nudging me to change back to this at the last minute so I could get a beautiful widget in the end slayyyyyy!

I see a lot of medal positions and 12s so thank you everyone for your fervent support. Can Bre tell me the listenthrough reactions?

Catching up on the last few results now, yay at missing last place by a smidge! Hiperbórea gave me "weird art gallery background music" so a low result isn't super surprising.

Raoul K & Ganzi Mdudu deserved better but I think I voted for 8 of the top 10 so the results are serving taste tbh. Congrats to uhsting on the win!

Oh bloody hell that's embarrassing!

Not that it matters now but in my defence I had the song on a Spotify playlist where it's down as "Aspara" so when I was checking nationalities etc. I arrived at this link: https://ra.co/dj/aspara hence why I put Japan. Then I just found the first YouTube link for the track - mind you I should I have spotted the mis-spelling there that's for sure.

On the same site it has Apsara down as a Japanese born DJ so I'm not technically wrong on that front at least https://ra.co/dj/apsara/biography.

Anyways, many congrats to uhsting. I wasn't keen on the track myself but can see why it would be a big vote hoover-upper, as the dark moody songs tend to always perform well here. Pleased to see Funk Tribu in second and also WUKONG & YMO in the top 10. Hoàng Thùy Linh certainly wasn't a last-placer though!

fair enough, I was wondering how you made those mistakes and can understand the confusion! (Though partly vindicated with her apparently indeed also being born in Japan).

I wasn't (intentionally) snitching on the nationalities of every song btw haha. Apsara stood out to me because I remembered Dan sent her before to a Worldvision round representing Indonesia so was just looking up if it was the same artist! And I checked Monolithic just because it sounded much more 'Western' than all the other entries. I can't remember why I looked up Aiobahn though lol x

Also yay at 12th being a unique position for me only missing 11th and 14th to have a clean sweep of 4-15, iconic if I can complete that before ever coming top 3 tbh.

BTW I've saved my entire top 11 of this contest (so all my votes + Karyendasoul) to my shuffle playlist great job just over half of you. x

Oh that 's a great result for Funk Tribu- I was surprised at the lack of South American entries tbh, the dance scene there is hot (Ela Minus, Sofia Kourtesis etc.)

Great to see Yellow Magic Orchestra, and Monolithic in the Top 5. I was loving all of the African entries/influences/sounds in particular here but did enjoy that Logic Lost track a lot too so it is fantastic to see that win for uhsting. Guess the theme of the next CB will have to be 'big drops'...

Great hosting and edition Chez I love how much attention South Africa got in this. (if only SA got the same love in BJSC)

Table Mountain I'm obviously really familiar with living in Cape Town and basically driving over it every day to get to work. But the "Hole in the Wall" brought back some cherished childhood memories of family who live nearby it. Pretty much convinced me to go visit again now so that was really fitting for my entry

Cool to see all 3 SA entries in the top 10 *.*

Karyendasoul was a fab pick! Love him. He did an amazing remix of a track called '6 AM' by Bongi Mvuyana which was a long running smash on my chart. 'Uhuru' was decent but i'm not crazy about Azana's Shakira-like vocals. I was thinking it was Rich and Brer that sent these. Am shook.

As for my entry, I tried to go with something a little less traditional and more electronic / to my taste. Didn't expect a smash, but happy with top 10 and 3 12s - ty Wardy, Rollo and Dandy

Thanks Chez for the hosting and choosing this theme. Was really interested to see what people here will send to this contest. Your entry would've become my +12 if it was WUKONG's first version of the song (featuring KAKU and Ghost) that you sent. Unfortunately, it got removed from streaming platforms (mostly because of a vocal copyright). ICYDK, The original song was titled Nan Er Dang Zi Qiang by George Lam. It's a fab song, so everyone gotta check it!

Decided to send LATHI because it had those beautiful Javanese gamelan sounds. The Javanese lyrics also brought me to attention. Ajining diri ana ing Lathi came from old Javanese proverb Ajining diri saka lathi, ajining raga saka busana, ajining awak saka tumindak. It was my #1 song in March 2020 and surprisingly also #1 in Indonesian Spotify 2 months later, thanks to an Indian beauty vlogger Jharna Bhagwani who started the Lathi make-up challenge at TikTok.

Also learned that All★bySmashMouth's entry (Thanks for the 12 pts too) was that viral TikTok dance song that has been popping in my FYP since September / October last year! That remix got stuck in my head and I enjoyed it since.
