BuzzJack Music Forum _ R&B and Hip-Hop _ Reggie & Bollie - New Girl

Posted by: ThePensmith 29th April 2016, 10:41 PM

I had a bit of a tough time debating whether to put this here or the R&B forum (aah. Just seen the title similarity. Good one me) but I've put it here for now - mods feel free to move it as you wish!

Anyway...last year's X Factor runners up have signed to Syco and have just shot the video for their first single 'New Girl' in Ghana this last week - the single is premiered next Friday.

Posted by: danG 29th April 2016, 10:46 PM

I'm not sure if I should be expecting something ironically good or just bad. Some of their X Factor performances were fun and entertaining but they couldn't sing to save their lives.

Cannot wait for this to drop & outpeak Louisa Johnson's winning single dance.gif

That would be funny. I think they'll do better than her. Runner-up always does better than the winner

^ just like how Marcus Collins outdid Little Mix? tongue.gif

I'm not confident that this will outpeak Forever Young but regardless it's hard to compare because R&B's winning single would've done even worse. Excited to hear it anyway!

Oooh so hyped for this ! I LIVED for their performances on X Factor so I'll definitely check this up !

And no one from 2013 has outdone Sam Bailey

Posted by: werewolfPL 3rd May 2016, 11:15 AM

It's probably gonna be out on May 13, plus it is described as good feel vibe summer smash cheer.gif Confirmed on Instagram by Reggie's girlfriend https://www.instagram.com/p/BE8GFjoEbFc/

Posted by: Robot 3rd May 2016, 11:32 AM

This better be good and smash like Fuse ODG did a few years ago.

Posted by: Liаm 3rd May 2016, 11:49 AM

This needs to flop horrendously please.

Artwork above - and a 30 sec sample here: https://twitter.com/ReggieNBollie/status/727897695411683328?s=09

It's giving me all the Nigel & Marvin 'Follow Da Leader 2002' teas in a good way biggrin.gif Single is out next Friday.

Posted by: Juliano 5th May 2016, 11:56 AM

I actually like this, exactly the song they need to release!

Posted by: Robot 5th May 2016, 01:40 PM

YES that sounds exactly what I'd have wanted!!!

Posted by: Robot 5th May 2016, 01:40 PM

WHEN WILL LOUISA GIVE ME SUCH A CARIBBEAN JAM

Posted by: Ryan. 5th May 2016, 01:47 PM

Love the sound of the song but Reggie's (I think) vocals are just so poor that it ruins what could be a great song, if Fuse ODG was singing this it would be the full package.

This is exactly how I felt. Apart from being fun, but persoanlities R&B never really had much talent. This would have been great with FUSE.

Posted by: danG 5th May 2016, 04:12 PM

It sounds very Fuse ODG, they really should've capitalised on Fuse's endorsement of R&B and put him on the song as a feature.

Posted by: Cameron 5th May 2016, 04:22 PM

Myself and the other pop mods have decided to move this to R&B for the time being due to it being of a similar nature to Fuse ODG and his threads are in R&B. Plus I am getting a giggle at the R&B forum standing for the Reggie&Bollie forum laugh.gif

If it is more 'pop' on full listen, feel free to move it back smile.gif

Posted by: Jonjo 5th May 2016, 06:15 PM

It's got a great, GREAT vibe, but those lyrics are far, too basic and agreed with Ryan's sentiment in regards to Reggie's vocals. Such a shame, because I think I'd be all over this, otherwise (lyrics aren't really a huge problem for me and I'll be able to overlook them once I've heard the full song a couple of times).

Posted by: Robot 5th May 2016, 07:43 PM

I can't say I paid attention to the lyrics and I don't get what's wrong with the vocals anymore so than someone like Shaggy or Omi?

Posted by: Robot 6th May 2016, 12:37 PM

This is gonna be the new Littlewoods advert track aswell, where they appear in it themselves, which should get this some extra exposure! biggrin.gif

Posted by: Jonjo 6th May 2016, 01:11 PM

Tbh Shaggy's songs are reliant on the hooks and production more than his vocals. And I've always hated OMI's voice as he sounds like he's gargling water and I find 'Cheerleader' to be very annoying. But I am open to this being half decent in full.

Posted by: Rooney 6th May 2016, 08:59 PM

Set up for a BGT semi-final performance as well I imagine...

Posted by: mdh 6th May 2016, 09:28 PM

all going well for this so far, it sounds like a tune too.

Posted by: ThePensmith 13th May 2016, 08:37 AM

Already #33 on iTunes! They performed this on Lorraine as well this morning...can definitely see this doing for them what 'Sax' did for Fleur East, especially being on the advert as well (which I've seen a few times already).

Posted by: Joe. 13th May 2016, 08:43 AM

This is kind of catchy in a very annoying way. I feel a massive all-guns blazing first single campaign one hit wonder. Similar to Fleur.

Maybe they'll get the BGT final slot instead of Little Mix then!

Posted by: Mango 13th May 2016, 09:49 AM

It's very Fuse ODG isn't it? I think it's great, exactly the fun, energetic kind of song they should have released (which funnily enough was true for Fleur too so the comparison is definitely valid - hopefully they get a couple more hits than she's managed though).

Posted by: Rooney 13th May 2016, 10:59 AM

Agree, it's really good, just the sort of thing I hoped they would make! The production is infectious, very summer.

Posted by: KWEEN_DEE 13th May 2016, 03:27 PM

I really like it.

Posted by: Chez Wombat 13th May 2016, 03:42 PM

This might as well be a Fuse ODG song but it sounds perfect for this time of year and is a good choice, I was scared it would be some awful novelty/'fun' song as that's what their performances were known for, but this actually plays to their musical strengths and looks it could get some success!

Posted by: Robot 13th May 2016, 04:05 PM

This is exactly what I wanted from them, as Chez said, I'm glad they haven't taken it too novelty and have kept it in the Fuse ODG ballpark. HIT PLEASE.

Posted by: ♦ ketalina ♦ 13th May 2016, 07:18 PM

this isn't a PATCH on 'follow da leader 2002', if only!

Posted by: ThePensmith 13th May 2016, 07:41 PM

I've had the chorus in my head all day. If not number 1, top 3 should be in its sights!

Posted by: Dobbo 13th May 2016, 08:11 PM

This is fantastic! Everything I was wanting from their debut single AND more wub.gif

Posted by: mr_pmt 16th May 2016, 05:52 PM

Not normally my sort of thing at all... but I reaaalllly like this!

Posted by: Jonjo 18th May 2016, 04:25 PM

Ok. So this turns out to be a proper bop! *.*

Posted by: Hayzayy 20th May 2016, 07:54 AM

Posted by: troylovesmusic 20th May 2016, 09:07 PM

This is such a bop I know I shouldn't love it as much as I do but I really do .

Posted by: Joe. 31st May 2016, 08:05 AM

I was expecting this to do a bit better than it's done so far, especially considering how well it did initially on iTunes. Any chance of it recovering?

Posted by: Dobbo 31st May 2016, 04:47 PM

Doubt it now, it was game over as soon as they didn't get a BGT spot.

Posted by: KWEEN_DEE 31st May 2016, 09:53 PM

I feel like it should've been released a month later.

Posted by: Cameron 31st May 2016, 10:23 PM

or not at all

kink.gif laugh.gif

Posted by: KWEEN_DEE 31st May 2016, 10:39 PM

I feel like there should be a parody version called 'new dick' laugh.gif

Posted by: jase. 31st May 2016, 11:53 PM

Down to #20 on iTunes. I actually thought it was going to do well after such a promising start. Maybe not laugh.gif
