A thread to discuss all things snooker related such as tournaments, debates and news and anything to with Pthe world of snooker in 2018.
Really enjoyed that game tonight. You don't always need the really big names in snooker to be entertained that is for sure.
Would love to see Kyren break through and win a big UK based title, We all know he's capable of course with his win in Shanghai and numerous other finals too.
Fantastic q comeback from John Higgins. Shame the 147 broke down.
John Higgins in very good form as he beats Ryan Day 6-1 and goes through to the semis.
So we are guaranteed a new triple crown winner tomorrow either Allen or Wilson will win their biggest title.
Bit of a scrappy first session with Allen and Wilson there. Currently at 4-4 going into the evening's session. I think Mark Allen will edge it 10-8.
Absolutely delighted for Mark Allen. I’ve always been a big fan of his so it’s great to see him finally win a big triple crown event.
Marco Fu will not be competing in events in the forthcoming months on doctor’s advice following laser eye surgery. Hopefully he’ll be ok in time for the Worlds.
Wow!, what a session there from Mark Williams to lead Graeme Dott 7-1 in the German Masters.
Mark Williams wins two ranking events in the same season for the first time since 2002/03! If he keeps this form up he’ll be one to avoid in the world championships!
The T20 of snooker starts on Thursday for four days on ITV 4. The Snooker Shoot Out is back.
Well done Michael Georgiou the first Cyprit to win a ranking tournament by winning the Snooker Shootout. He was the best player of the weekend and deserved to win. I really hope he kicks on from this and wins more events. Really quality player, enjoyed watching him play.
It's entertaining, but I don't think it should count as a Ranking event, as it's too much of a lottery.
I'd love to see Ronnie enter it sometime - his fast-sighting & close cue-ball control would make the time clock almost irrelevant - not to mention his 5m20s maximum...
Ronnie O’Sullivan (1) vs Robert Milkins (32)
Martin Gould (16) vs Yan Bingtao (17)
Mark Allen (9) vs Xiao Guodong (24)
John Higgins (8) vs Ali Carter (25)
Shaun Murphy (5) vs Ricky Walden (28)
Ryan Day (12) vs Jack Lisowski (21)
Stephen Maguire (13) vs Li Hang (20)
Luca Brecel (4) vs Michael Georgiou (30)
Judd Trump (3) vs Michael White (29)
Graeme Dott (14) vs Joe Perry (19)
Neil Robertson (11) vs David Gilbert (22)
Mark Selby (6) vs Jimmy Robertson (27)
Ding Junhui (7) vs Mark King (26)
Kyren Wilson (10) vs Mark Joyce (23)
Anthony McGill (15) vs Cao Yupeng (18)
Mark Williams (2) vs Stuart Bingham (31)
Robert Milkins should have won the first frame. He had four very good chances but messed it up every time.
Bingtao through to the second round of the World Grand Prix with an impressive 4-2 win over Martin Gould. He now meets Ronnie O’Sullivan in what is sure to be a cracker after Ronnie whitewashed Milkins 4-0.
Judd Trump seems rather out of form ATM.
Looking forward to ding vs Selby tomorrow should be a cracker they never disappoint whoever wins should be a great final.
A very comfortable win for Ronnie in the World Grand Prix he beat Ding Junhui 10-3 with 4 centuries.
Only his mind can stop Ronnie O’Sullivan at the moment. It’s going to take something special to prevent him winning the Welsh Open next week.
Seems Darren Morgan is not happy with Mark Williams
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/snooker/43205573
A hammering for Murphy by Gerard Greene with a whitewash in the first round of the Welsh Open.
3 matches, not even any lost frames for Ronnie in the Welsh Open.
OK, he had a first round bye, but in the form he's in, I doubt Robin Hull would have provided much resistance either.
Another clash between the greats, O'Sullivan and Higgins in the quarter-finals, currently 3-1 to Higgins at the interval.
Higgins made two excellent total clearances against Barry Hawkins but trailed 4-2! He won the last two though so it’s all square at 4-4.
Great win for John. Still producing the goods in his 40s. Well played to Barry. Looks to be getting back to form just in time for the worlds.
Congratulations to Ryan Day anyway winning his second career ranking title. Defeat for Cao Yupeng in a final means Graeme Dott takes the final spot in the players Championship.
Players Championship Draw:
O'Sullivan v Dott
Ding v Allen
Brecel v Robetson
Trump v Maguire
Higgins v McGill
Murphy v Wilson
Selby v Day
Williams v Yan
Ryan Day in superb form at the moment. He wins the Romanian Masters final 10-8 against Stuart Bingham despite being 4-0 behind early on.
Not a fantastic game but glad to see Ding win. Didn’t realise Mark Allen was in such jeopardy of not being in the top 16 come the Crucible.
Brilliant win for Ryan Day today against World Champion Mark Selby in the Players Championship.
His 6-3 win moves him into the top 16 of the rankings and moves Mark Allen down to 17th!
When was the last time Higgins got beat 6-0 against anyone other than Ronnie O’Sullivan. Great result for Anthony McGill.
Really enjoyed watching this all week on ITV and can’t wait for the Worlds soon on the BBC. So pleased that in this age of Sky and BT etc there are still some snooker tournaments on normal free view TV. Thought Ronnie looked the winner all week apart from maybe the last few frames of the Trump match. Also credit to Murphy on a good week, think he let Ronnie off the hook a little.
Congratulations to Luca Brecel, who made his first pro maximum in the Championship League yesterday, a quick one in 7 minutes and 25 seconds.
Mark Allen's win this morning means he's above Ryan Day - so Ryan is out of the top 16 for the Crucible. If Stuart Bingham also loses his last 64 match, Mark would be above him too. Mark getting to the quarter final would put him above Ali Carter (Ali was beaten earlier.)
Still potentially lots to play for as even the £90k for the runner up could mean a massive boost for several players..
Ronnie O'Sullivan has been knocked out in the first round of the China Open by Elliot Slessor despite making a maximum 147 break.
Now that Ronnie has made the maximum. I'm hoping that it won't be £5,000 for the 147 at the World Championship surely not.
Great win for Slessor again over O'Sullivan. To beat Ronnie twice in the same season is pretty special achievement.
Bingham makes a 147 against Walden, nicking 21k off Ronnie!!
So unless Jack Lisowski or Tom Ford wins this event its the 16 as it stands and Mark Allen will be 16.
Today looks like being yet another runaway final with Selby leading 8-2 at the interval. Don’t know what Barry’s pot success rate was but he seemed to miss a lot of easy ones so I’d guess a lowly mid 80’s.
Would anyone watch the World Seniors Snooker Championship if it were televised?
Yes I would watch the World Seniors Snooker Championship if it was televised. This year it went to Aaron Canavan from Jersey who beat Patrick Wallace on a respotted black.
Seeds for Crucible

Some pretty generous looking odds for anyone whose name is not O'Sullivan.
For a second there I thought Liang was going to do two maxes. Massively pleased for him to come through that one though, we need his character at the Crucible. Hopefully someone will tell him the correct way into the stage
Joe Perry completes a 10-5 win over Jimmy White no surprise at the margin sadly on tonights play

The English Open will be played in Crawley this year.
Brandon Sargeant won the first Challenge Tour event of the season, beating Luke Simmonds 3-1 in the final in Burton which is part of a new tour for amateur players where the Top2 players at the end of the 10 events on the Order of Merit will win a two-year tour card on the main World Snooker tour.
Neil Robertson has beaten Jack Lisowski 5-2 to win the Riga Masters, the opening ranking tournament of the 2018/2019 season.
Robertson's 14th career ranking title. Goes level with Mark Selby and one ahead of Ding Junhui.
A look at the draw for the World Open which takes place from Monday:
http://www.snooker.org/res/index.asp?event=708
Absolutely gutting for Dave. I have to feel sorry for him. That might have been his best chance of winning a ranking title.
Although it showed why Mark Williams is the best in the world at the moment to win the World Open after being 9-5 down.
The Indian Open in Kerala has been postponed because of floods.
147s for Michael Georgiou and Jamie Jones in the Paul Hunter Classic! Those two bring it up to it being the 141st official maximum break.
Quite likely we’ll get a debut ranking tournament winner tomorrow, only Ebdon and Wilson left of the 16 have won before.
Jack Lisowski beats Jimmy Robertson in under an hour to reach the Quarter Finals of the Paul Hunter Classic. Could he be on his way to that first ranking title.
Kyren Wilson won the Paul Hunter Classic after beating Peter Ebdon in the final 4-2.
The re-scheduled Indian Open will now go ahead in Kochi from February 27th- 3rd March in 2019.
Congratulations to Kyren Wilson on winning the 2018 six red world championship after beating Ding Junhui in the final 8-4.
It will be a Ronnie O'Sullivan v Kyren Wilson semi-final then in the Shanghai Masters.
Barry Hawkins comes from 9-7 behind to beat Ding Junhui in a decider! He’ll play Ronnie in tomorrow’s final of the Shanghai Masters.
It was a great return for Ronnie to win the Shanghai Masters. Don't know how he does it, he can play as and when he wants and doesn't seem to need to slowly build match sharpness like everyone else.
Enjoying the China Championship this week. Yuan Sijun just beat Ding 5-4 in a thriller. Dotty hammered Robbo and a great win for Mark King over Mark Allen 5-1.
Another great win for Scott Donaldson. After beating Stephen Maguire the other day he’s now beaten Jack Lisowski 5-3 to book his place in the last 16 in the China.Championship.
John Higgins v Mark Selby final in China today. Could be a cracker.
Well done Selby what a player to win the China Championship, 10-9. great final and a good effort by John Higgins.
King, Jimmy Robertson, Hamilton, Perry
I can't remember a more unlikely semi-final line-up for a ranking tournament.
Congratulations to Jimmy Robertson! He’s into his first ranking final after beating Mark King 6-4. He’ll play Joe Perry in tomorrow’s European Masters final.
Jimmy Robertson won his first ranking event after beating Joe Perry 9-6 in the European Masters final.
Jamie Jones suspended in corruption enquiry
https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/snooker/45823530
Ronnie's not happy with the venue it's "a hellhole" and "smells of urine"
https://bbc.co.uk/sport/snooker/45868618
Thepchaiya Un-Nooh made only the third 147 of the season in his opening frame at the English Open.
John Higgins has said that he has lost his appetite for snooker after finishing runner-up in the last two World Championships.
And a day later Ronnie O'Sullivan hit his 15th career maximum 147 break at the English Open, meaning that he'll share the highest break prize with Un-Nooh.
Former world champions John Higgins and Neil Robertson and world number five Judd Trump were all knocked out in the fourth round of the English Open, with world champion Mark Williams, 2005 World Champ Shaun Murphy and Barry Hawkins out in the third round.
Stuart Bingham and Mark Davis are the first two players through to the semi finals of the English Open. Stuart with a 5-2 win over Ali Carter whilst Mark Davis defeated Ryan Day 5-1.
Delighted for Mark Davis. 27 years a pro and finally reached his first ranking final.
Congrats to Stuart but I would have liked Mark Davis to win. Hope he gets another chance soon.
Draw for the International Championship:
https://snookerinfo.webs.com/2018-international-champ
Barry Hawkins defeats Mark Williams 3-2 to win the one-day Macau Masters Individual title. The event was a unique format, with a gauntlet style draw and apparently played with 6 Reds.
Another great result for Jack Lisowski this time beating Judd Trump 6-2. Mark Allen also into the semi finals as he beat Ali Carter 6-0 in the International Championship which is taking place in China.
Matthew Stevens is into his first ranking semi final for over 5 years after beating Martin O’Donnell 6-5! He’ll play Mark Allen tomorrow in the International Championship. Other semi will be Neil Robertson v Jack Lisowski.
In the provisional rankings, currently he is 17th just outside the Top16. Another strong run in the Northern Ireland Open & UK Championship and he could be in the Masters for the first time.
https://www.wpbsa.com/rankings/latest-provisional-seedings/
Tomorrow's semi-final Robertson v Lisowski should be a cracker.
It was Mark Allen who won the International Championship by beating Neil Robertson 10-5 in the final.
Shaun Murphy is the first man into the semi finals of the champion of champions after beating Ding Junhui 6-3.
Higgins into the lead for the first time in the match with an excellent break of 83! He leads Ronnie O’Sullivan 3-2 in the Champion of Champions.
Kyren Wilson cruises to a 4-1 victory over Mark Williams to book his spot in tonight's Champion of Champions group stage final.
Well done to Mark Selby on making his third career 147 break at the Champion of Champions against Neil Robertson. No prize money however for one made.
Mark Allen hit five century breaks as he beat both Barry Hawkins and Neil Robertson in Group 2 of the Champion of Champions and will play Kyren Wilson in the semi-finals.
Ronnie O’Sullivan leads Kyren Wilson 6-3 after the first session in the final of the Champion of Champions.
Home favourite Mark Allen falls in round one of the Northern Ireland Open, losing 4-1 to Niu Zhuang.
Higgins, Hawkins, Allen, Maguire, Bingham and Wilson all on their way home and out in the first round. Wilson had to play 24 hours after losing 10-9 to Ronnie in the Champion of Champions.
Eden Sharav continues his excellent week by beating Peter Ebdon 5-4 to reach the semi finals for the first time in the Northern Ireland Open.a He’ll play Judd Trump tomorrow night for a place in the final.
What a match! Ronnie wins 6-5 to get through to the final.
It should be a good entertaining final.

China's Yu Delu has been banned from snooker for 10 years and nine months after a major match-fixing inquiry.
His compatriot Cao Yupeng also pleaded guilty to fixing and was banned for six years, although three and a half years of his sentence are suspended.
Draw for the Masters aa
Allen vBrecel
Ding v Lisowski
Higgins v Day
O'Sullivan v Bingham
Selby v Maguire
Trump v Wilson
Hawkins v Murphy
Williams vRobertson
That's what I'm really looking forward to seeing to with the 8 best players of the season.
Ronnie withdraw from the Scottish Open as well as Mark Selby, Mark Williams and Martin Gould.
John Higgins has made his 9th 147 in his second round match against Gearld Greene.
Judd Trump completes the semi-final line-up in Glasgow. He's made the last four at the Scottish for the third year in a row and will face Shaun Murphy tomorrow. The other semi it is.Mark Allen vs Daniel Wells.
Mark Allen wins the Scottish Open 9-7 against Shaun Murphy.
There's no reason why Mark Allen shouldn't be considered a World Championship contender for next year.
It’s Ken Doherty who wins the battle beating Alan McManus 5-0 in the German Masters qualifers. Ken will play either Luca Brecel or Matthew Stevens for a chance to go to Germany
Cao Yupeng and Yu Delu have now been officially removed from the world ranking list following their suspensions, leaving 125 players currently on tour.
Judd Trump made the 146th 147 during qualifying for the German Masters.
I wonder when we'll see the 147th 147.
