BuzzJack Music Forum _ Pop _ Would you want Saturdays at Eurovision?

Posted by: Wall-e 1st March 2015, 06:53 AM

I would happily have The Saturdays representing United Kingdom at the Eurovision tbh, a little bit of easy promotion as well as arguably their highest selling single since 'What About Us' as it would no doubt do decently worldwide with 'Finest Selection' possibly charting worldwide.

The girls don't have much to lose and with a pop BANGER they could manage one last hit.

Isn't it considered like a total "career-killing" move, though?

I know they aren't in any position to be picky and stuff, but Jesus, to go down that route... I'd rather they stick to the plan of "all going solos to become solo entities and bring interest in the group when we reform" than do this.

I don't know.

I mean even the Sugababes didn't, you know.

Yes yes yes yes

It'd be great promo for them and with a song like WAU or 808 they could easily smash

Posted by: Scherz 1st March 2015, 03:36 PM

No. Simply because the pressure would get to them and they'd f*** it up.

OH HELL NO.

As much as I would LOVE them to do it. A complete live vocal from the girls with no backing track and only one backing singer, (you can only have 6 people on stage) would probably cause problems, as they haven't done that in a while...

I agree Martyn. Unless they did a really slow track with minimal dancing/movement.

Posted by: Jonjo 1st March 2015, 05:23 PM

Yes.

Something like 'Wildfire' especially would smash so hard at Eurovision. TBH, they really don't have too much to lose and I honestly think at this moment in time it'd HELP them slightly.

But these girls haven't had a career to worry about killing for 2 years now.

Girlbands seldom do well at Eurovision though. Serebro came 3rd for Russia in 2007 and that's about it success wise.

Posted by: Cameron 1st March 2015, 06:47 PM

No as they'd need to sing Live

People are so rude as if they use backing track or mime on acoustic performances laugh.gif

Would you see an acoustic performance going down a storm at Eurovison.

Yes.

The Common Linnets did pretty well with a sort of acoustic song

A UK act who've had a #1 in the past two years doing Eurovision?

*dies of happiness*

Posted by: Joe. 1st March 2015, 09:45 PM

Yes.

I would never say this about any of my favs. But it would probably be the only way The Saturdays would be able to sell records at this point in their career( or lack of).

It was just an argument to show that they can sing live when they are in their comfort zone

They can always do ballads, too.

I also believe Eurovision has better studios and sound engineers than This freaking Morning. laugh.gif

This misplaced shade! *Informs Silas*

If they were still active at the moment and Frankie wasn't pregnant, sure, I wouldn't be against it at all. When it comes to the group, I feel like the girls have nothing to lose any more - and I doubt taking part would be a risk for their individual careers (thinking more of Rochelle and Una here). It's not like the group has a major legacy to uphold, and their success level was at an all time low in 2014. Even if they flopped at Eurovision, I'm sure they'd only stand to gain from it.

I reckon that they'd probably all feel above it though.

No.

But I don't mind if they send Vanessa.

Posted by: *Tim 2nd March 2015, 09:54 PM

tbh Totto, us together would be able to give the Dutch 12 points to them so they wouldnt be complete flops

Don't even imagine it, Rochelle would never agree to something like that. Only if she has totally fade away out of the media and she is looking for a last way in.

Or if she and Marvin are ask as a duo, that I wouldn't mind.

Posted by: Wall-e 2nd March 2015, 10:08 PM

Rochelle would say no cos they would no doubt have a big dance routine.

Posted by: *Tim 2nd March 2015, 10:19 PM

Well they need their 2 backup singers I think and only 6 people can be on stage and since Frankie's contributions and live vocals are non-existant, I think they can leave her out

Posted by: Joe. 2nd March 2015, 11:36 PM

They'd actually have nothing to loose from doing Eurovison.

They'd never gain Radio 1 back anyway, but if they released a decent Eurovision song Heart and Radio 2 would 100% probably give them better AirPlay than they'd had in years.

I'm no Eurovision expert but don't the UK complain every year that noone votes for them for political reasons or something?

Posted by: Lukuzz 4th March 2015, 11:08 AM

No, I don't think it would benefit them at all, also I don't think they could pull it off and we would get crap points as always.

And that's because the UK public fail to recognise that the songs we enter deserve to have no-one voting for them. When on the rare occasions we send good songs we do well (It's My Time (top 5 overall), I Can (top 5 in the televoting)) and only Molly was unlucky in that she deserved more votes than she got - but many countries always send good songs and don't even get past the semi-final!

I think at this stage The Saturdays might as well do Eurovision if they ever got the opportunity as I can't see where any more success for them could come from, but as Adam said earlier, girlbands don't have the best track record in Eurovision for some reason.
