BuzzJack Music Forum _ Taylor Swift _ Re-do Taylor's eras

Posted by: Liаm Sep 18 2017, 01:11 AM

Something that's always interesting to think about in AFs.... Are they any bizarre or personally meh single choices you'd have changed? Or would you just add an extra single to an era or take one away? Taylor's an artist who always has really consistent albums so I'll get thinking tomorrow as there's probably multiple choices I could make per album!

The first thing that came to mind I would have made Red the 5th single (and given it a proper video) and removed The Last time from its single campaign. As much as I do love The Last Time I would be okay with that being a great album track.

That would definitely be top of my list too, should never have remotely been a single laugh.gif Such a boring song, especially for one promoted with an XF performance... State Of Grace was such a missed opportunity so I'd have that in its place, definitely one of her best album tracks.

Also You're Not Sorry on Fearless, I get the huge relatability of Fifteen but they 100% should have been switched. On Speak Now I can't begrudge any of the atual singles being singles but that was SUCH a strong album she could have got 3 or 4 more other options out.

I would have swapped Wildest Dreams with New Romantics, and then had Wildest Dreams as the final single in December instead of Out of the Woods (which I love, but it had already done enough at that point as a promo single during the lead up to 1989).

New Romantics and the other bonus tracks went onto iTunes around the same time as Wildest Dreams became a single (or a little earlier), and I just think they could have done something with that and a decent video. Also it's that bop~

I'll do this properly later but you belong with me should've been the UK single after LS and NOT teardrops!

I would have replaced with "Out Of The Woods" or more likely "New Romantics" with "All You Had To Do Was Stay".

I have been listening to all her albums a lot recently and just wow she has so many fantastic songs that would have made great singles, and even the ones that were chosen for release which are pretty much flawless, so there's only a few changes I would make.

Her debut album I wouldn't change a thing as the single choices were pretty much spot on.

For the 'Fearless' era, that was also fantastic, but for the UK I think it should have went =

'Love Story' = Yeah that was pretty much perfect, no changes there.
'You Belong With Me' = This should have been released sooner to capitalize on 'LS' success, instead of 'TOMG' or 'WH'
'You're Not Sorry' = This would have been a much better choice than 'Fifteen' which is a decent song, but did nothing in the UK.
'White Horse'/'Fearless' = Now I know this is a long shot, but for the UK market these released together could have ended the era with a bang.

Speak Now = This era was again mostly flawless, but instead of 'The Story Of Us', I think that fan favourite 'Enchanted' would have been a much better choice and would have probably charted higher than #41 in the USA. I know this is pushing it but for a 7th possible choice either 'Haunted' , 'Better Than Revenge' or if she was gonna go with another deluxe single choice 'If This Was A Movie' which had already charted in the top 10 on downloads and could have given her another top 10 hit from this album. Any one of those choices would have been fantastic.

'Mine'
'Back To December'
'Mean'
'Enchanted'
'Sparks Fly'
'Ours'
'Haunted' or 'Better Than Revenge'

For the 'Red' era I would have made a few changes =

'We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together'
'Begin Again'
'I Knew You Were Trouble'
'22'
'Red' - With a proper music video and bigger promo.
'Everything Has Changed' (Ft Ed Sheeran)
'All Too Well'

Instead of 'The Last Time', I think that 'All Too Well' would have been a much better choice to end this era and given that an X-Factor performance in the UK, I reckon it would have charted much higher than 'TLT', in my opinion. Even though 'EHC' wouldn't have been my choice for a single, it did give her another UK top 10 hit and sold really well. 'Red' should have had a proper music video instead of yet another live performance video and been given a much bigger push as it could have easily been a smash hit in the UK, or at least made the top 20.

'1989' era was perfect although 'Out Of The Woods' should have been released sooner instead of 5 months after 'WD' which by that time the era had kinda passed, and 'New Romantics' should have had a proper music video and ended the era on a bang.

For instance 'OOFTW' should have been released in November or December 2015, instead of February '16 when all the hype had basically ended by this point. If released just a few months after 'Wildest Dreams', then It would have definitely stood a better chance. As for 'NR' that could have been released in Jan or Feb '16.

This [2]

Also +1 to pushing 'Red' instead of 'The Last Time', and I'd have replaced 'The Story Of Us' with pretty much anything else on Speak Now.

Thought I'd give this a little BUMP, as I've changed some of my opinions in my post above.
