Supposedly their lead single is out soon from their 5th studio album 'THE BEST YEARS OF OUR LIVES', and it could be called 'THINGS WE LOST IN THE FIRE'.
We've already got a live version of 'TONYA' which is sounding brilliant, by the way. Hopefully the lead is as incredible as everything they've put out so far, as at this point they're arguably my favourite musical act ever.
So they've started a Beats 1 radio station named 'THINGS WE LOST IN THE FIRE' which will broadcast weekly, presumably with new music on each show. Kevin says they'll be dropping new stuff all summer.
They just released a new single named '1999 WILDFIRE' and it's really, really good. Got a 00's hiphop feel to it and that chorus is so infectious. Not like we expected anything less.
<3
I think this is rivalling 'JUNKY' as the best song that I've heard by them to date, it's brilliant! I totally get the '00s hip-hop feel' comment, Jazze Pha opening the song with "Ladies and gentlemen..." took me straight back to 'Nasty Girl' by The Notorious B.I.G. instantly The hook sounds quite Outkast but simultaneously reminds me of D12's 'Purple Pills' melodically. Looking forward to more from this era!
Being the flop fan as ever (I kinda stopped following them midway through SAT II) I'm only just hearing this now oops but yass they've still got it absolutely loving the Bearface verse on this in particular, nice to hear a bit more from him on one of their singles. I do need to go back and catch up on the stuff I've still not heard from them x
It's a little weird hearing a new BROCKHAMPTON single without Ameer, he was honestly probably the most consistently quality member they had for me </3 but they obviously have the talent elsewhere in the group to not need him.
Okay I'm a stan now, I greatly apologise for sleeping on them a bit. 'SWEET' is giving me life today in particular.
This should be a smash
There are rumours that the album name has changed from 'the best years of our lives' to........
'Pencil'
Hasn't the album title changed like twice already? At this stage I'm not believing anything until it actually comes out
Another new song from them!
Very different and much more aggressive vibe than the last one (apart from the outro), banger tho. And the blue people are back in the video *.*
Not quite as all over that as I was with '1999 WILDFIRE' but yet another BROCKHAMPTON banger nevertheless *.* these guys can do no wrong for me right now.
So this is a thing (cheers Harry for alerting)
I very much approve of SWEET being #2 *.* but JUNKY is too low and u wot at the omission of 1999 WILDFIRE but the inclusion of TONYA, as nice as that is :')
Really liking that song.
Also, nice flute line.
There's this thing in hip hop that always gets me 'turnt up' if there's a flute (or any other high pitched woodwind instrument) in the melody. (examples: Timbaland and Magoo - Indian Flute, Drake feat. Travis Scott and Quavo - Portland, Cardi B feat. Migos - Drip)
"TRUMAN" is really great - not sure if it's on the level of "WILDFIRE" or "TONYA" but another brill track nonetheless.
Something tells me we'll be getting the album pretty soon.
Heard '1998 TRUMAN' on Radio 1 earlier and it was such a moment *.* my anticipation for this album is sky high so I hope you'll be right about it dropping soon!
New song "1997 DIANA" out tonight! Rather morbid title but the cover looks WONDERFUL.
I don't think its about that Diana event specifically, the previous titles all related to films and respective years.. so 1998 was 'The Trunman Show'. I think 1997 more likely refers to the film 'Diana & Me'.
Another good'un!! Can't get enough of that beat *.*
Another good track, probably my least favourite so far though - anyone else think they could do with slowing down sometimes, eg) in this song it feels like they're trying to cram as much into 2 minutes as possible? Could have done with stretching it out a bit!
Honestly though, these are all 10/10 songs, the album is bound to be FANTASTIC
Yeah I think it's my least favourite of the three so far as well, but this would still be my rank:
01. 1999 WILDFIRE - 10/10
02. 1998 TRUMAN - 09/10
03. 1997 DIANA - 08/10
so all is good
I am LOVING 1999 WILDFIRE right now, the other two are good and will probably grow on me but this is amazing
I agree '1997 DIANA' is a little too short and could do with being fleshed out a little - now I've finally actually listened through the first two 'SATURATION' albums (shall hear the third one soon xx) I've found that's the case with a few of their other songs as well, I think 'JESUS' in particular sounded really great but just needed to be a bit longer. It's like it's more of a snippet than a full song.
'1998 TRUMAN' has become my favourite of this new era thus far now, both of the hooks are proper earworms. I think Bearface is actually the low point on that song when he was probably my favourite part of '1999 WILDFIRE' lol ~ Hoping we'll get another new song soon ;o
(aside: this thread title should probably just be changed to 'The Best Years Of Our Lives')
bring on next month *.*
(has the name changed again though? :'))
I saw on Instagram and SCREAMED !!!
Adoring the graphics, but the 'Made In London' part suggests that it's all been made this week, since they've been in London and a few other UK cities since last Saturday (not Birmingham tho🙃) - which may indicate that the 99/98/97 trio could be excluded from the album? God knows, but I don't think they'll follow the numbers theme anymore.
"1999 WILDFIRE" is on the Radio 1 playlist! Can't believe it, absolutely over the moon.
Apparently they accidentally leaked the date as 21st September and then quickly edited it. x
I feel like there's a chance the 3 songs so far won't be on the album as well (since they changed the title again so the song titles don't seem to fit the album title any more) but idec as long as the album actually does drop this time xx
(also :cheeseblock: at them making it to the R1 playlist)
Floored at them being on the R1 playlist *.* Also, I was so excited when I saw that they were touring earlier on social media... until I read that it was in North America... dammit they better come to the UK at some point! Fully expecting these songs so far not to make it as well with the album title change (who knows about TONYA, although the YouTube live performance removal is suspicious) which is a shame as I adore '1999 WILDFIRE' but ah well, I'm sure they'll deliver as ever.
To be honest, I'd be very surprised if they're not in the top 5 of BBC Sound of 2019 list, if not win it.
Yep they're going with September 21st (just one week now!!) and here is the cover art and track list:
https://twitter.com/brckhmptn/status/1040441554966441984
So just 'TONYA' making it from the songs we've heard so far. Although, if you look closely then it says that this is 'From the trilogy The Best Days Of Our Lives' so maybe the others are still to come at some point? Who knows tbh but I'm so happy that we're getting another trilogy.
Looks like there's a documentary as well as the album! Trailer uploaded to their channel which includes them talking about Ameer a bit.
ONE WEEK TO GO *___*
I can't wait for this, I adored "TONYA" so it's nice to see we'll get a studio version. Also, Kevin's said on Twitter a few times that they're going to move to London, which would be great - meant more UK shows
Would be disappointed with anything less than album of the year tbh x
The album's already out in Aus...but I don't have time to listen to it tonight D:
I'm resisting getting an Australian Spotify account to listen to it... BUT everyone on the BH Reddit is treating it like the best album ever released, apparently it's more experimental than they were expecting !!
SO HYPED, less than 7 hours 'til I can listen
"J'OUVERT" is out and it's by far the most experimental thing they've ever put out - if you're not usually a BH fan then I wouldn't even go near this one
(I think I love it though)
The first album I’ve listened to at midnight on release day since The xx’s ‘I See You’ *.* LOVE it. Experimental BROCKHAMPTON but still unmistakably them at the same time, great progression. Too many highlights to mention but I’ve gotta say that the trio of WHERE THE CASH AT / WEIGHT / DISTRICT is everything <3
Really loving the experimentation on this, need to listen to the album more as I think a lot of it will be growers (it doesn't have many songs with instant hooks like the 'SATURATION' trilogy) but I'm not let down at all on first listen.
'NEW ORLEANS', 'WEIGHT' (that dnb beat switch *.* think this is probably the best song on there), 'DISTRICT', 'J'OUVERT' (JOBA's verse on this is amazing) and 'FABRIC' were the biggest immediate highlights for me. 'WHERE THE CASH AT' and 'VIVID' too but they're too short, always a couple of those on every one of their albums.
Also just seen this album will be coming out on vinyl yass x
Not gonna lie on first listen last night I was massively underwhelmed, but WOW after relistening today it's superb
Early highlights for me are "TAPE", "TONYA", "SOMETHING ABOUT HIM" and "WEIGHT"
Album is Hottest Record on Annie Mac tonight!
New music video from this campaign! Low budget / effort goals
This was my least favourite song on the album upon first listen oops but it's already growing a bit after hearing it on R1 the other day and subsequently revisiting it now.
Album debuted at #2 in New Zealand, which is particularly impressive because that chart is almost entirely streaming based and it's really hard to do well without hit singles.
'NEW ORLEANS' has a video now as well, like the last one it's just an impromptu shoot with a bunch of their fans but it's cool ~ Hoping we'll get at least one more proper music video from this album (for 'WEIGHT' pls xx)
'SAN MARCOS' is really growing on me, these slower songs are never my faves from BH (aside from 'FACE' ) but the choir part is pretty undeniable and Bearface is rly good on it too. I think the only songs on this album that are underwhelming me a bit now are 'THUG LIFE', 'SOMETHING ABOUT HIM' and (unpopular opinion) 'TONYA', so many of these are growers as I expected.
Apparently on course for #2 on the Billboard 200 this week (and might even have a shot at #1 as it's within a few thousand copies of Josh Groban)!! I feel like a proud father xo
The "SAN MARCOS" video is my fave so far, hasn't been mentioned here tho ~
"SATURATION" vibes
Honestly this is by far and out my album of the year, apart from MAYBE "NEW ORLEANS" & "HONEY" it's flawless.
Jade posted it on the last page
These videos aren't really anything special, 'J'OUVERT' had a cool aesthetic but not really much going on in it compared to most of their previous videos.
And the album has charted at #20 in the UK!! Climbing from the midweeks once again.
(also #8 in Ireland, Bearface's family must be picking up multiple copies xx)
cue EMF
SO PROUD
*.* merch bundles doing the trick. Really can't believe they've pulled this off!
We already have a snippet of another new song (maybe from the second album in the TBYOOL trilogy?) featuring vocals from A$AP Rocky
We stan chart topping legends *.*
