Janine Butcher

Any character who can murder, extort decent people, have affairs with married men and be generally a scheming cow and yet come out with such a huge fanbase has to be up there! She's an incredible character throughout her time on EE, whether it was her prostitution days, poverty or being filthy rich days. Hopefully she comes back fairly soon heart.gif

She pushed Barry off a cliff
She actively stabbed Michael
She ran over Danielle

I love Janine, but I don't know how you can say any of these weren't her laugh.gif The Michael one is excusable since Alice had already stabbed him but she had the finishing blow, so... Perhaps murder wasn't the right word since none of them were premeditated but she certainly was responsible for all three of their deaths.

omg are we watching the same show...

She pushed Barry away from her
She could've easily followed Alice to the police but stayed there and chose to stab him
Fair enough, Danielle was a dumb bitch but Janine was speeding. A small road like that in East London would be like 20 mph laugh.gif

Tracey the Barmaid. 31 years and still going strong! Who can forget her integral part to the Kathy storyline?

Janine Butcher definitely has to be up there for me, as said already she does the most to be totally evil, she's killed people, lied, hurt basically everyone who comes into contact with her, but she's one of those who no matter what she does, deep down you just want her to get what she wants anyway laugh.gif It was like so what if x dies just let her have it.

Other personal faves would be:

Eastenders:
Sharon Mitchell (an ICON, always fierce and providing the unintentional hilarity "MY SON IS IN THE iamspamspamami EATING A BISCUIT")
Peggy Mitchell (THE soap matriach)
Stacey Slater (Lacey being such an incredible actress makes Stacey essential even in boring everyday scenes)
Ronnie Mitchell (the tragic queen, it would have been nice if she got a happy ending off to Ongar with Jack but she had to break our hearts right til the very end)
Shabnam Masood (a small stint compared to others, but her 2nd incarnation with Rakhee Thakrar playing her was just flawless)
Zainab Masood (I still can't that she'll never be back now her whole family is gone sad.gif She was absolutely hilarious and Nina Wadia was such a fab actress whether she was judging and being cutting, or in a drama like struggling to accept Syed's sexuality or being abused by Yusef)

Corrie:
Deirdre Barlow (drama and comedy by the bucketload, she was one of those characters who stole scenes or episodes even when she wasn't really doing anything)
Blanche Hunt (unparalleled in hilarity as far as soaps go, any episode she appeared in she'd light up with a cutting remark or one liner)
Carla Connor (ruined a bit towards towards the end, but who wasn't mauled by Stuart Blackburn? She had it all imo, she wasn't a saint but you always rooted for her and I was waiting and waiting for her just to be happy for once)
Becky Granger (I loved watching her journey, as she went from the loudmouthed criminal who Roy and Hayley took pity on to a staple of the show and a really likeable character)

Hollyoaks:
Sienna Blake (hear me out on this one, I don't even watch anymore but pre-Nico I think she was perfect. She was unhinged and evil, but like Janine I found myself thinking do you know what f*** Nancy let Sienna have Darren and the kids laugh.gif I think that's the mark of a fab character, when you hate them for what they do but you still root for them fundamentally)
Mercedes McQueen (pretty much 10 years on the show and I don't think she's ever gone stale, she can be light relief but she can bring the drama in buckets too like when she had her stillborn son)

Neighbours:
Steph Scully (I just love her, Carla Bonner is an amazing actress and Steph is another one of those characters who's done wrong but you always want to see her pull through)
Karl and Susan (the quintessential soap couple for me, both such strong pillars of the show individually and the sort of people you'd want around you if you lived there laugh.gif)
Dee Bliss/Andrea Somers (made such an impact the ifrst time, then Madeline West absolutely SLAYED it coming back as "Dee")
Izzy Hoyland (iconic soap bitch, Nat Bass played it perfectly and she even managed to break Karl and Susan ohmy.gif)
Bridget Parker (oh. no. poor. libby.)

Emmerdale:
Val Pollard (a comedy queen, I think she maybe did run dry by the time she was killed off but it was still so sad and she was great light relief in comedy scenes but could do the serious too - her HIV storyline)

I have watched five soaps over the years so I'll pick two from each.

Dallas - JR Ewing,Cliff Barnes
Knots Landing - Gary Ewing,Gregory Sumner
Brookside - Barry Grant,Jimmy Corkhill
Neighbours - Harold Bishop,Karl & Susan Kennedy (you can't pick one over the other, they come as a pair)
EastEnders - Dot Cotton,Stacey Slater

Special mention to Ian Beale and Paul Robinson for longevity. They have been through a lot of drama and are so similar in many ways.
