has to be the track with Ida W

Loving this retro artwork. Can’t wait to hear what’s next, One Kiss still bangs.

Posted by: danG 11th August 2018, 11:56 AM

Really hope we get this next Friday. So excited for new Calvin material.

Posted by: BridgeCow 11th August 2018, 12:07 PM

I need this

Posted by: Juan Carlos ⚡️ 11th August 2018, 12:47 PM

I finally scanned the barcode and it says 'Calvin Harris'.

It shouldn't give us any clue, but when the "One Kiss" barcode was scanned, it said 'Calvin Harris & Dua Lipa, One Kiss' before it was changed to 'Calvin Harris Calvin Harris' after the news broke out. If the latter is taken into consideration, there were two times were his name was mentioned, implying two artists, but this time is only one, so it makes me think it's going to be a solo track. However, there's also some information that he also did the vocals for a Benny Blanco song, so I'm wondering if he actually recorded two songs, which would be huge in my opinion.

Personally, the trademark implies that it's only him because Benny Blanco is under Interscope and there should be any mention about that too.

Posted by: Eleni 11th August 2018, 12:58 PM

Omg you should be a detective tbh

It could be a self-titled album?

Posted by: Juliano 11th August 2018, 03:30 PM

I'm hoping for the Normani single that was being teased, but I do love a bit of Ina.

I'm not sure, but... who knows? I mean, an album is always a possibility, but IIRC he mentioned that he wanted to release a couple of songs, so I think it's a track instead. Even, he teased that a song was coming on Instagram stories two days ago after he posted https://www.instagram.com/p/BmEUgz5ggGG/ on Instagram a day before.

The Instagram post doesn't mean anything, although there's a match with the colour in the suit and the artwork. As a side note, the plant is called Agave and he performed at Omnia with a 'pure space' t-shirt yesterday (and he mentioned https://www.instagram.com/p/BmWd9wWAhpp/ on Instagram too), which tends to have a similar theme with the picture above.

Either way, I'm wondering if this would be released next Friday (as Dan mentioned a couple of posts above) or the week after that (August 24).

It's with Sam Smith, called promises, and releasing Friday!

Posted by: Bjork 13th August 2018, 06:18 PM

boooooooo come on calvis you don't need this
very very very very disappointed at this collaboration

Posted by: Cqmerqn 13th August 2018, 06:18 PM

Ughhhhh

Posted by: coi 13th August 2018, 06:18 PM

Calvin Harris and Sam Smith? Well there's a collaboration I could never have seen coming!

Posted by: Bjork 13th August 2018, 06:26 PM

a collaboration from hell

worst idea of a collaboration in the history of music :/

Posted by: SLlewellyn 13th August 2018, 06:28 PM

I am here for this. Sam's vocals work brilliantly on dance tracks (see Disclosure x 2, Naughty Boy, plus any of his tracks' dance remixes) - fingers crossed it's a goodun'!

Posted by: lewistgreen 13th August 2018, 06:31 PM

What’s with all the hatred already? We all know very well Sam sounds fantastic on dance tracks with the Disclosure collabs.

Posted by: Hans 13th August 2018, 06:37 PM

I didn't have this pegged as a potential collaboration for some reason but it makes sense! Looks like Calvin is back working with the big names in British popular music. Sam sounds great on a variety of different dance tracks whether it be the likes of "Latch" or "La La La", or remixes of singles such as the Laibert remix of "Too Good At Goodbyes" or the Tiësto remix of "Lay Me Down". I've only really found "Omen" to be a let down in these terms.

Posted by: .MIKE. 13th August 2018, 06:42 PM

YES! Yes yes yes yes! The most unexpected collaboration.. but hopefully the most amazing :love

Posted by: gavindeejay 13th August 2018, 06:46 PM

Given Sams collabs with Disclosure have been great I’m thinking this will be good! Looking forward to Friday now!

Posted by: Hadji 13th August 2018, 06:47 PM

Calvin & Sam together! Hope this can knock Drake off #1

Posted by: Tawdry Hepburn 13th August 2018, 06:50 PM

Well... ugh.

I'll keep an open mind.

Posted by: mdh 13th August 2018, 06:54 PM

Provided this is a good 'un, I'd say this'll be another comfortable #1 for the both of them. Quite excited, as much as Sam's solo stuff doesn't appeal to me I DID enjoy 'Latch' and to an extent 'La La La'.

Posted by: BridgeCow 13th August 2018, 08:23 PM

Ughhhhhhhhhh

Posted by: Andrew. 13th August 2018, 08:57 PM

WHY

this not something the world needs right now

Posted by: Klumzee 13th August 2018, 09:00 PM

initially I cringed before realising the one thing he can do well is dance features! Will be interested to see what sound Calvin puts out there as he's varied it up quite a bit recently! I'm ready for a Nuh Ready Nuh Ready Part II *.*

Posted by: danG 13th August 2018, 09:03 PM

i'm so ready for this, i have faith in Calvin to make Sam Smith sound good too.

Posted by: Juliano 13th August 2018, 09:23 PM

If this is anything like Latch or La La La (as much as I find the latter annoying now), I am so here to hear!

Posted by: Cqmerqn 13th August 2018, 10:37 PM

It feels like Calvin is doing Sam a favour

Posted by: Red Blooded Man 14th August 2018, 04:37 AM

GIVE IT TO ME NOW!

Posted by: Quartonworks 14th August 2018, 04:59 AM

If it’s anything like latch I’ll be happy, I think this will be a hit

Posted by: Juan Carlos ⚡️ 14th August 2018, 02:41 PM

I'm intrigued.

I like Sam's dance collaborations, but I'm not so into his solo tracks, aside "Nirvana". I hope Adam doesn't disappoint in the production, which I assume it will follow the pattern of 128 bpm like "One Kiss" and maybe https://twitter.com/CalvinHarris/status/1026989784126742529 was a hint? Either way, I'm looking forward to this.

In what way though? His second era hasn’t been as big as the first.. but he scored a #1 single and album. His album has gone double platinum and he’s enjoying a world tour.. I don’t think he really needs any favours..

Anything he releaed after Too Good at Goodbyes single wise has been a huge flop though

Yeah that's kinda true, but also the same for Calvin in some ways. Only Slide and Feels did well from his last album, Rollin and Faking It were singles that totally failed.

Posted by: Dexton 15th August 2018, 11:54 AM

To be fair to both Sam & Calvin:

- Rollin was only ever intended to be a promo single
- Faking It was released way after the albums release, as were all of Sams other singles

TGAG was a #1 with big thanks to the hype of a Sam Smith comeback plus post-album singles in general don’t perform as well anymore due to the power & accessibility that streaming has

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 15th August 2018, 11:56 AM

Yeah, I think Sam should've released another single before the album was released.

Posted by: Bjork 15th August 2018, 12:07 PM

wasn't Pray released also before the album and added to R2?
Pray was also re-released in mid-2018 as a new version with Logic and did nothing despite the huge airplay
I personally think no one cares about him anymore, if this is successful is gonna be cos of calvin not cos of sam
also it reads very unnatural, like something orchestrated by the label

Posted by: gavindeejay 15th August 2018, 12:16 PM

I wonder if this will get added straight to A List on Radio 1 this week?

Yeh was B listed for one week.

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 15th August 2018, 07:28 PM

Have they ever had more than 1 insta-add to the A list? I can see either this or The 1975 going straight to A.

Posted by: Juan Carlos ⚡️ 16th August 2018, 08:20 PM

A preview of the track was teased by MJRRadio on their Instagram stories and you could listen to it https://calvin-af-crone.tumblr.com/post/177047433100/mjrradio-ig-story-16-august-2018-a-promises.

Posted by: lewistgreen 16th August 2018, 08:23 PM

EW. It better speed up otherwise no.

Posted by: SameBoy 16th August 2018, 08:28 PM

sounds really good, can't wait.

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 16th August 2018, 08:29 PM

The sound quality isn't great in that clip, so it's hard to tell what it'll be like, but I'm very intruiged!

Posted by: Stu1985 17th August 2018, 03:49 AM

It’s not a banger, but it’s so fresh! I like it! Nice bop!

Posted by: Dexton 17th August 2018, 04:03 AM

I can't see this going #1 but it's a hit for sure.

It features Jessie Reyez too

Posted by: Stu1985 17th August 2018, 04:08 AM

This could very much become my top Calvin track!

Posted by: Juan Carlos ⚡️ 17th August 2018, 04:21 AM

Not as instant as "One Kiss" was on first listen, but it's still solid.

Posted by: Tawdry Hepburn 17th August 2018, 06:06 AM

Very drab.

Posted by: Bjork 17th August 2018, 06:08 AM

Meh

Posted by: lewistgreen 17th August 2018, 06:25 AM

I'm not impressed and I feel Calvin is the one that lets it down here. Straight to A List on Radio 1 though!

Posted by: danG 17th August 2018, 07:21 AM

it's basically a more relaxed version of One Kiss but it's still great, a proper late summer bop.

Posted by: blacksquare 17th August 2018, 07:22 AM

I actually really like this, and it’s definitely the most listenable Sam Smith has been since Latch.

Posted by: Hans 17th August 2018, 08:43 AM

Not too sure I'm fussed on first listen, though I felt that with "One Kiss" too and that grew - though it never grew to the level some seemed to be obsessed with it. I don't think it's massively special. Think I'll likely feel the same about this one longterm.

Posted by: ElectroBoy 17th August 2018, 08:47 AM

I don’t get the child in the background or the child laughing.

Considering the names it’s a bit meh, not as bad as Jess’ new song but nowhere near as good as One Kiss

Posted by: Cqmerqn 17th August 2018, 09:45 AM

His worst song to date

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 17th August 2018, 09:48 AM

A bit slow for me, but hopefully it will grow on me like One Kiss did.

Posted by: slowdown73 17th August 2018, 01:48 PM

Another fairly dull track. Why on earth did he change his style? I haven’t liked anything since my way.

Posted by: BridgeCow 17th August 2018, 02:01 PM

I really like this tbh, it's taken a few listens but I'm into it, it's no all-time Calvin fave but it's nice and groovy, idk if I can see it being that big tho

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 17th August 2018, 02:06 PM

I've listened to it a few more times, and it's grown on me so much. I think I prefer it to One Kiss, Sam's vocals are brilliant.

Posted by: mdh 17th August 2018, 02:10 PM

Surprisingly I'm really enjoying this - the chorus is enough of an earworm for it to be a big hit, but this more stripped back dance sound is so refreshingly different to other stuff in the charts right now.

Posted by: Dexton 17th August 2018, 02:17 PM

Listening to this earlier and I hummed the chorus to One Kiss over this chorus and it fit perfectly :') Calvin on auto-drive already?

Posted by: danG 17th August 2018, 02:34 PM

once Calvin finds a style he seems to stick with it for a few singles; see last year as well.

it's a bit similar to One Kiss but still unique enough especially in the current chart landscape.

Posted by: Red Blooded Man 17th August 2018, 03:08 PM

It's a grower but at first I feel a bit underwhelming... The song has a nice vibe though.

Edit: loop it for a few times. My favourite bit is the bridge, his high-pitch is just about right. Still feel a bit underwhelming though, too relaxing.

Posted by: Rooney 17th August 2018, 04:28 PM

This is fine, I like Jessie's vocals in the track.

It's pretty much at exactly the same tempo as One Kiss (although admittedly, Dua's vocals sound more 'dancey' than Sam's). Literally they are like basically the same song with the same tempo beat, the piano just makes it sounds slower.

Posted by: Jonjo 17th August 2018, 05:05 PM

Really not a fan of this. So dull. I was expecting to like it at least a little, despite Sam being on it.. but nope.

Flush. Next please Calvin.

Posted by: The Hiss. 17th August 2018, 05:23 PM

I don't usually like Sam Smith's vocal style, but it sounds like a good tune, the chirpy background synths and echoey backing vocals make it sound quite early-00s chilled house to me, a bit like DB Boulevard or Moony.

Posted by: Jüpiter 17th August 2018, 05:35 PM

Oh I was really excited for the drop in this and there just...wasnt one sad.gif

It might grow on me anyway, Sam is sounding great, but eh first listen :/

Posted by: BridgeCow 17th August 2018, 05:53 PM

Omg this really keeps sounding better and better the more times I listen

Posted by: lewistgreen 17th August 2018, 05:56 PM

Ok this does get better with each listen, but it’s still not wowing me sad.gif it’s just ok.

Posted by: PeteFromLeeds 17th August 2018, 06:39 PM

This is quite nice! I was singing 'there may be trouble ahead' to the chorus just then though laugh.gif

Posted by: Dobbo 18th August 2018, 01:14 PM

His songs just don't EXCITE me in any way anymore sad.gif It's all very calculated. I did appreciate Nuh Ready but the problem with that was the vocals were bordering on intolerable.

Posted by: Theo. 3rd September 2018, 05:24 PM

I'm really loving this now after being so opposed to Sam featuring on it. His vocals really suit laidback dance tracks like this.

Music video is premiering on Wednesday so if it's not #1 this week, I think it's guaranteed next week.

Posted by: Juan Carlos ⚡️ 3rd September 2018, 11:11 PM

The music video comes out tomorrow at 8am. BST.

Posted by: Jüpiter 4th September 2018, 01:19 AM

...it did grow on me.

It's so lowkey though I almost feel it should be a Sam single rather than a feature.

I still think an instrumental break chorus hook would make it even better, but it does sound...fresh, the way it is too. The last minute or so really sells it for me tbh.

I know you've said this before, but I can't see how they're even similar? It's a totally different sound.

One is a house track, the other is more disco-lite and it's a different tempo.

Posted by: Dobbo 4th September 2018, 10:11 PM

And you can add me to the list of people whom this is growing on rapidly! Very much the opposite of One Kiss which tired fast, I can see myself enjoying this for the forseeable future.

Also I didn't notice this before but is that a VERY subtle Take That sample in the middle 8? "cos I NEEEEEEEED"

Posted by: Bré 4th September 2018, 10:25 PM

I really like this, I stanned 'One Kiss' for a while but it got old quickly whereas this I can see holding up much better to repeated listens - I really wish Sam would go down this route for his solo material, I enjoy his more restrained voice quite a bit over these kind of chilled dance instrumentals (love all of his Disclosure collabs as well).

Ugh. This is the biggest U-Turn I've done on a song for a while. WHAT A SONG.

There's just something so irresistably catchy about the production that really makes both this and One Kiss imo.

I'm excited for Calvin's album if this is the sound for it. Also, more Jessie Reyez please heart.gif
