With the World Cup drawing closer, it’s time to take a look at the people who defined the sport with our Ultimate Footballer contest. We’ll be seeing which footballers we think are the best, pitting the greats against each other to see who Buzzjack crowns as our Ultimate Footballer!

It’s Semi-Final time now – we received 78 nominations in total, which have been randomly allocated into 3 groups of 26 (note ‘randomly’ – if all the best have been stuffed into the same semi it’s not my fault). Ten players from each group will advance through to the Final. It’s now time for you to vote – you can vote for up to 15 players, but you MUST vote for at least 5. Please make your order obvious (or at least obvious enough for us to know what you’re on about).

Group 3
Ossie Ardiles
Liam Brady
Cafu
Andy Cole
David De Gea
Damien Duff
Richard Dunne
Luis Figo
Ruud Gullit
Thierry Henry
Wes Houlahan
Andres Iniesta
Robbie Keane
Oliver Khan
Paul McGrath
Bobby Moore
Michel Platini
Ferenc Puskas
Raul
Peter Schmeichel
Alan Shearer
Andriy Shevchenko
Marco Van Basten
Patrick Vieira
George Weah
Ronnie Whelan

Results:

11 Andy Cole 37 pts
12 George Weah 35 pts
13 Raul 34 pts
14 Cafu 30 pts
15 Ossie Ardiles 29 pts
16 Andres Iniesta 26 pts
17 Liam Brady 26 pts
18 Robbie Keane 24 pts
19 Wes Houlahan 21 pts
20 Luis Figo 18 pts
21 Oliver Kahn 13 pts
22 Damien Duff 10 pts
23 Paul McGrath 6 pts
24 Andriy Shevchenko 3 pts
25 Ronnie Whelan 1 pts
26 Richard Dunne 0 pts

Semi 3 was certainly much closer in terms of points, a massive scrap for the Top 10 resulting in Andy Cole missing out by a single point. The current President of Liberia, George Weah, is only a couple of points behind as well, and Spanish superstar Raul is only a point behind him. We then get the full range of points, all the way down to our single null-pointer, which is another Irish choice to the surprise of absolutely nobody.

Which brings us to our Top 10, in alphabetical order:

David De Gea
Ruud Gullit
Thierry Henry
Bobby Moore
Michel Platini
Ferenc Puskas
Peter Schmeichel
Alan Shearer
Marco Van Basten
Patrick Vieira

Even as a United fan I don't think De Gea deserves to be up there with the greats (yet anyway).

Cafu certainly should have got through anyway.
