How do I see today's Spotify chart?
To see the daily top 50 update on desktop, log in to Spotify, click 'Browse', then click 'Charts', then click 'United Kingdom Top 50', or click the link below. The desktop top 50 may update before anything else so is always worth checking if the website is not up to date. However recently it has been known to not to do (even when the website has), so do check all sources. Also note that the Spotify Website will update before external websites (Kworb, LivePopBars). Occasionally there will be a delay in the Spotify chart updating which could even take days.

How often does the chart update?
It should update once every day, usually in the early afternoon - although this is not 100% guaranteed. Sometimes the top 200 on the website will update but without the top 50 on the app updating, and sometimes there will be no update at all.
How many plays on Spotify equals one download sale?
100 plays if you are on Spotify Premium, or 600 if you are using the ad-supported free tier. However you cannot simply play a song that many times in one day to give it one sale, you are limited to 10 plays per day in terms of what counts to the chart. (Spotify will let you play a song on repeat 600 times if you really want to).
The number changes to 200 or 1200 plays when a song moves to ACR. For more information on the rules of ACR see this thread. For information on what songs are currently on ACR and what songs will be moving to ACR, refer to this thread.
How much does Spotify contribute to the chart?
Streaming contributes over 90% to the singles chart as a whole, although good paid-for sales are still essential for making the very top of the chart in most cases. Spotify counts for at least half of all streaming sales (probably, we can't actually be sure on that), so doing well on Spotify is essential for doing well in the chart.
Why is my fave not doing well on Spotify?
Is it being promoted on one of Spotify's major curated playlists? If it isn't, it's unlikely to really take off! Hot Hits UK is the biggest of these playlists, with over a million followers. The playlist usually updates itself to include breaking hits once or twice a week, though there is no guarantee that your fave will get a place on the playlist. Also, the UK Top 50 is a largely followed playlist and that songs often experience a 'top 50 effect', when they enter the top 50 and get the additional exposure of being on the playlist.
Often sales hits don't cross over to being streaming hits, this is usually the case for songs with an older target audience, reality or campaign songs. Also keep in mind that it often takes longer for a song to take off on Spotify than it would on iTunes.
My fave didn't debut high and is falling already, does this mean they're flopping?
Not necessarily. Most songs debut relatively low as they aren't instantly well-known, and experience a sharp decline on Day 2 as they no longer have the promoted 'New Music Friday' effect. A lot of songs manage to recover through gaining popularity and additions to playlists. Exceptions to the rule of course come from massively hyped artists/releases such as Justin Bieber/Ed Sheeran/Drake who will of course enter straight at the top.
What do the numbers mean?
The streaming figures cited in the daily chart are the number of streams each song received the previous day. Unlike the iTunes chart, Spotify is not a rolling chart so the numbers will only change once per day.

Looks like were getting a new Drake album/mixtape tomorrow judging by his instagram post
So expect him to have a fair few songs debuting highly on Saturdays update but should have strong promo on streaming sites probably Apple being the most prominent?

They've moved as bit 3 Nights (track #9) but there are still a lot of great songs that are too low and have been too low for ages
and never been given a proper chance on HH (Higher love, Hate me, All the time, Find U Again, Canter etc

The Drake songs literally aren't new, wouldn't expect them to get any playlist push. It's just like the delayed release of 'So Far Gone', he just wants to make more of his back catalogue available to stream. He had a couple of other early mixtapes which I suspect will also eventually get a Spotify release as well.

Drake's songs actually doing a lot better than 'So Far Gone'! 'Dreams Money Can Buy' the highest at #41, 12 in the top 100 and 4 more top 200 ('Heat Of The Moment' the only one that hasn't gone top 200 at all). Would be great if 'Dreams Money Can Buy' can go top 40 (although who knows if the OCC will apply the 3 year ACR rule to it 
), I don't think I've ever heard the song but I know it samples Jai Paul's brilliant 'BTSTU' so that being in the chart in any form can only be a good thing.

Really curious to see how 'China' will end up doing here, it's absolutely massive worldwide and I think it has the potential to be big here too, probably helped out by the sample if 'It Wasn't Me' in the chorus because of course a normal reggaeton song with no link to western music could never become a hit here (with the exception of 'Mi Gente' for some reason). Could well end up just stalling like 'Con Calma' did though but I hope not, it's quite a tune x

I wonder where 'Small Talk' will debut tomorrow? It's support in the UK is a bit better than with 'Never Really Over' #1 on New Music and cover, and a debut of #31 on Hot Hits, whereas 'Never Really Over' was #5 on New Music and debuted at #45 on Hot Hits...But the song isn't at strong. So it'll be interesting to see.

But that's not the point of the playlist! I'd love for it to reflect more upcoming hits but it wasn't created to speed up the chart, there are other (and sadly less prominent) playlists for that. Mad Love definitely fits the criteria!
Besides, it a new song by an up and coming artist was song #1, it would be labelled in this thread as payola and there would be similar complaints from certain people.

I think it's the last song on the album which won't help but considering it was an actual single it's a shame 'Solway Firth' isn't in the top 200, that song is great. I wonder why 'Nero Forte' is the highest song?? That's not the one on NMF, and it's track 5 on the album. Guessing it's on some other playlist.

Ah cool - totally forgot about that, that's higher than I'd have guessed. Deserves to be a proper hit but it obviously never will be.
Not sure how to predict Bon Iver's album, could see it having a Thom Yorke esque run repeaking in a few weeks when the physical version comes out (although it should be higher than #50 this week

I think it's the last song on the album which won't help but considering it was an actual single it's a shame 'Solway Firth' isn't in the top 200, that song is great. I wonder why 'Nero Forte' is the highest song?? That's not the one on NMF, and it's track 5 on the album. Guessing it's on some other playlist.
Is this the first time 'Hey, Ma' has been in the top 200 then or was it briefly there when it was released?
Really think Slipknot can be #1, they need around 30K and think it's doable
think Bon Iver will debut kinda low cos their streams are not good enough, like most indie albums, so will peak when the physical is out, not sure why the dis-synchronised release...

Gerry just seems to be getting more and more popular! Canter has had good longevity as well.
I suspect he'll get his first top 40 soon.
(I actually think most of his first album and Canter is better than Belter tbh)

Yeh Belter is what got me into him but the rest of the album is better. Canter is a bit like Belter - popular sounding.

Gerry's rise recently has been pretty crazy - he's been big in Scotland for the last few years so I wasn't sure if he'd ever cross over outside!
The Snuts seem like they could be on the same path as him, they had a massive crowd at TRNSMT this year, even though they're not too well known (yet) outside of Scotland.

I would have been mega shocked if Normani DID debut top 50. She's done remarkably well already for somebody who has virtually no name power - her only two solo hits are with bigger artists (Khalid and Sam Smith). Motivation's obviously going to be big, it's just going to take time to grow into the hit it'll become because she's less of a known entity.

The hype online, from what I have seen is huge! It'll debut Top 50 in the US I reckon so I don't think it's that much of a ask for it to debut there. It's just disappointing to see people who actually put effort in promotion, videos and such like not get anywhere when artists releasing the same monotonous rubbish with v minimal promotion, uninteresting lyrics and videos just sail to success with no problem. It's just my opinion 🤷

In addition, he had a notably higher position on New Music Friday (1st, compared to Normani's 12th). In fact, it's actually a miracle she's as high as she is with a position like that, so the hype is definitely translating into streams! I agree that I'd much rather Normani was slaying Spotify right now than Headie One but I think it's quite easy to see why it's not that way round (at the moment, if Normani keeps building on this I have no doubt she'll command better debuts in the future).

Also worth noting that the last Headie One single only barely scraped the top 100 so this one clearly has something more going for it. It feels almost random which British rap hits are bigger than others (I don't think the last Headie One single sounded particularly non-chart-worthy, if anything it was probably his 'poppiest'/most commercial single to date) but there must be some logic to it amongst its audience
Jorja was doing really well on Apple Music as well so not surprised at its pretty solid debut on Spotify! Hope this is better than her last few singles, the Burna Boy feature sounds promising x

3 Nights is ahead of Beautiful People on Spotify but barely, just 10K, while Higher Love is still far behind, 85K behind 3 Nights
on Apple, Beautiful People is #3, Higher Love #4 and 3 Nights is #7, but we don't know how far they are
on itunes, Higher Love is #1 doing double than BP and 3 Nights, but sales in recent weeks have been so so low on iTunes...
and finally on Youtube, BP is #7 with around 150K views per day, 3 Nights is #16 with 100K... while Higher Love is not top 20... it has an official audio video but no official clip...
so right now it looks like it's between 3 Nights and Beautiful People... with Higher Love still lacking streams... hope it's 3 Nights but I'm fearing the worst aka BP returning to #1

well I wouldn't call it any support... she's #1 on NMF with an album track and that's above the new 1975 single (which has also been insta-added to HH by the way)
and she has 2 songs on HH, in the middle of the list, not incredibly low as posted above
she got the full Spotify support for single 1 and a hellofalot of support for single 2, that was probably the deal she had with spotify
on better news, Higher Love is back to track #1 on HH and now the moved Take me Back to London up and placed Beautiful People lower!!!! Hope that means the latter won't return to #1!!!

Higher Love is back up to #7, and quite a few songs improve their peak position by one place. These include Joel Corry at #12, Lizzo's Good As Hell at #27, Jax Jones & Bebe Rexha at #32 and Sam Feldt at #34. Also, Normani is up to #45, Lauv & Anne-Marie reach the top 50 for the first time at #49, and Tones and I are now just outside it at #52. Wiley, Solardo and Regard hit new peaks inside the top 100 as well (at #64, #80 and #86 respectively), and the new track from 5SOS enters at #89. The 1975 also come in at #181 after just a few hours.
Also yay for Smells Like Teen Spirit and The Pretender making an appearance in the top 200 today!

BROCKHAMPTON having their second round of songs entering the Spotify top 200 (no doubt for exactly one day before they vanish without trace until their next album comes out again ofc x). 'NO HALO' outdoing the #89 position of 'J'OUVERT' from their last album, although they have fewer songs making the top 200 this time (only 6 compared to 9 songs from 'iridescence' making it in). Have been kind of expecting this album to do slightly less well than their previous one but I hope I'm wrong and they can make the top 20 again. (Will be happy if they're anywhere in the top 40 really and fingers crossed their aggressive bundling can help them challenge for #2 in the US behind T-Swizzle x).
Nice to see 'Lover' (the song) in the top 10, the video for that has really sold the song to me more, it's so cute. Hope it can go top 10 overall this week.
And haha I was wondering if the remix release of 'Take Me Back To London' could actually put the song in surprise contention for #1 I'd be here for it tbh xx (think it'll fall a little short though). I really wish there was a version of the Sir Spyro remix without Jaykae, not a fan of his part of it (although Aitch's part is surprisingly good, definitely his best performance on a song I've heard to date). The grimier production from Sir Spyro is much better than the original.

TMBTL would be #1 in the Spotify chart for Friday (above) with both versions combined; Ransom #6; and is this the first time SYL has dropped out of the Top 10 in about 6 months? (except for the week or so after Ed's album was released, but most of those tracks were starred out officially)

Hahahahaha. Ed really needs to shield himself from nukes from the BuzzJack community after this move especially if he keeps Kygo at a #2 peak. (I'm all here for it tho xx also glad to see the Sir Spyro mix entering today, surprised that isn't the higher of the two new mixes but I guess the normal one is the one on NMF at least).
Very pleasantly surprised that 'NO HALO' has managed to hold on for a second day in the top 200 and actually quite comfortably at that! Praying there's a chance this could be their first top 100 hit then although I'm not going to hold my breath (it's only #331 on Apple Music).

BROCKHAMPTON actually going back up a bit to #156 today (from #167 yesterday)!! All of their album tracks are picking up pretty significantly today on Apple Music too ('NO HALO' at #244 there which is up 77 places from wherever Kworb is counting the 'previous positions' from, I assume yesterday as well). This song I think could actually be a real hit for them if it gets enough of a push (which I wouldn't have said for any of the previous singles from this album as much as I love them).

She has apparently already shot the video for her next single, before Small Talk was even released, so I wouldn't be surprised if they move the release of that single up now its obvious Small Talk is bombing. Ideally she'd put the Small Talk video out then move on with a couple of weeks, shame Small Talk has potentially ruined some of the momentum she had gained with Never Really Over.

Very here for AJ maybe briefly grabbing a non-combined #1 peak *.* not sure what is spurring him on to suddenly rise and re-overtake Dominic this week but I'm here for it if it's gonna give him a top 3 peak! ('3 Nights' looking like it is actually going to end up with a #3 peak now which is kinda neat x)
One day I'll cease spamming this thread about BROCKHAMPTON every day but that day isn't yet because oh my at the huge rise for 'NO HALO' and 2 of their others actually returning to the top 200!! Perhaps there is a chance 'SUGAR' could hold onto a top 100 position after all. Interestingly it seems like the UK is the only country where their songs are significantly climbing today (they were up in most countries yesterday but back to mostly falling today), this to be the start of the UK being their primary market so they might actually tour here pls xxx also noticed 'SUGAR' has overtaken 'NO HALO' in the US (#89 and #90 respectively), glad that's not happening here. x

Stormzy easily. 'beerbongs & bentleys' only did 43k first week while 'Gang Signs & Prayer' did 69k, and Stormzy is an even bigger name now while Post Malone is probably about the same level if not slightly lesser considering 'Goodbyes' wasn't that huge of a hit.

reading the rules, it seems to me that the 3 years rule applies to Automatic reset only
not to Manual reset
At least, it doesn't explicitly mention it
here's the rule:
i) Automatic Reset a track within the Top 100 on ACR and which is within 3 years of release can automatically return to SCR if its combined sales and stream total increases by 50 percentage points greater than the market change week on week. For example, a track with a week on week variance of +39%, in a week where market variance is -11%, would be automatically reset.
ii) Manual Reset In exceptional circumstances, where a track is being scheduled for promotion, a label may elect to manually reset a track to SCR. This manual reset is limited to two tracks per artist album, only where the track in question is outside the Top 100 and subject to one weeks notice being given from the releasing label that they wish to implement a manual reset. Manual reset shall be strictly subject to Official Charts and/or CSC approval.
