can we at least try and finish live show 5 first.

Posted by: Dobbo 9th November 2014, 02:39 PM

Although I always find Big Bang week pretty pointless, it normally means the contestants have to showcase their vocals more so the real standout performers are always more evident.

2 shots for every time you hear "out of my/your comfort zone"...

The race to open an X Factor thread

Posted by: Liаm 9th November 2014, 02:44 PM

They could be quite clever and make this theme a bit more current... There are a lot of current songs with prominent horn/brass led parts (for example Crazy Stupid Love and Problem) that they could "big band"ify a bit like Emeli Sandé did with Crazy In Love in The Great Gatsby. That would make it a bit more current than the usual Feeling Good, Bewitched, Ain't That A Kick In The Head and Cry Me A River, but of course they won't do that.

Lady Gaga's version of Bang Bang for Lauren *.* Or Patsy Cline's Walking After Midnight, not proper big band I know but it would fit the set-up.

Posted by: Timmy SZN 9th November 2014, 04:49 PM

Fleur to do Problem including the Iggy rap *.*

I always liked Big Band week, but it seems a bit uninspired as usual

Posted by: PixieLott 9th November 2014, 05:14 PM

I wonder who will do 'Feeling Good'?

Posted by: Liаm 9th November 2014, 10:32 PM

Fleur needs to sing Candyman or Ain't No Other Man.

Alexandra did the former in big band week and both have a cabaret/jazzy/swing feel! She maybe shouldn't do the same song as Alexandra but Ain't No Other Man could fit into Big Band and it'd be amazing, plus slightly more modern than the usual clichés.

Posted by: Jack 9th November 2014, 10:45 PM

LOL Nicole "Tens of albums sold!"

Crazy In Love or Aint No Other Man would be good for Fleur. Toxic Glee style would have been perfect for Only The Young but Chloe already performed it sad.gif. Not sure what they can do actually, hope it isnt something too cliche.

Posted by: Liаm 9th November 2014, 10:49 PM

Hit The Road Jack would be good for OTY!

And omg yes Emeli Sandé's version of Crazy In Love would be amazing for Fleur wub.gif This doesn't seem like a theme that would fit her but there are so many good choices for her. She could do Proud Mary or River Deep Mountain High too!

What have Proud Mary or River Deep Mountain High got to to with Big Band Week
Proud Mary is a country rock song and River Deep Mountain High a Phil Spector song. - Both these are 60s
Big Band is 40s - Sinatra - Glenn Miller - Sammy Davis Jr. Ella Fitzgerald - Bing Crosby - Mills Brothers - Ink Spots - Andrews Sisters etc.

So Andreas is on first while Strictly is still on, will this impact on him negatively?

Posted by: J▼hnkm 15th November 2014, 08:25 PM

Ugh, this is essentially another chance for him to SHOUT WORDS AT ME

Posted by: Liаm 15th November 2014, 08:25 PM

Absolutely nobody can touch Fantasia's performance of this on American Idol in 2003, not even Leona. That was quite good, vocally on point as always so I can't fault him there. It was just a bit shouty for this song I think, I know it's a really tough song to sing but he didn't have the emotional connection (which I actually felt was more present last week). Still, a great performance overall.

Posted by: sammy01 15th November 2014, 08:28 PM

So it is defo trying to at least put a dent in Andrea this week, as he is probably too safe to be in danger. Simon's comments were predicted on Sofabet that Smion would compare it to Leona negatively.

Posted by: Liаm 15th November 2014, 08:40 PM

Vocally captivating, but I agree a bit with Simon (again)... It wasn't her best by any means, this theme doesn't allow for much leeway but tbh she needs more exciting song choices. Let It Go, Smile and I'll Be There were all hugely predictable. But she captivates me with her voice every time regardless, she proves you don't need to prance around or have distracting sets or anything. Still, I'm worried she'll be bottom 2 as that wasn't very exciting admittedly.

Where's all of the good big band performances? I swear this year's X-factor has been so lack-luster performance wise. There's been no WOW performances for me at all this series.

I've just read the popjustice thread on tonight and even thr moron's over there who worship anything a female does weren't praising Fleur. I doubt she is in danger, as the good work the producers, sorry I mean Fleur has put in in previous weeks will carry them along.

Jay should in theory get a bounce but I just don't see it, he is dead cert for bottom 2 for me, it is just who of OTY, Stevi, SK or possibly Lauren will join him.

I just cant over look Fleur's strained voice, she might perform but it is just so weak

Although it was still one of my favourite performances of the night, because there were great parts (the rap, the arrangement, the performance element) to it, I have to agree. It really wasn't a 10/10 moment for me because her voice WAS strained at times and she actually went flat on the majority of her 'runs'. I was waiting to see if she could hit the "bad girl to blow your mind" big moment before the final chorus... and it wasn't there.

I want to really really love Fleur because she's ALMOST everything I want in an X Factor contestant and I'm glad she's still in the competition because she's such a rarity for the show to find someone so ready and polished and current - but her vocals are becoming a problem for me, they were weak in Thriller, they were basic last week and they were weak tonight; something I didn't really feel was the case in bootcamp or the first two/three weeks. It's frustrating because it sounds like her vocals are going downhill.

You say this, but you worship anything a good looking male does seemingly. You stanned over JAKE f***ING QUICKENDEN.

Do not try to act like you are holier than thou and play the double standard card, your comments on here regarding X Factor are very tiring. By all means have your own opinion but the ridiculous conspiracy theories as to why your faves get eliminated (theyre just shit) and how females get fawned over no matter what is soooo boring. X Factor threads have become a chore to read because of you tbh.

If Andrea is in the bottom 2 with Jay tonight, Jay is most likely gone out of the two, the other judges will save Andrea.

I do think Fleur's main competition is Andrea. If Andrea goes I reckon Fleur could actually win it this year.

For some reason I'm thinking Simon will have 2 acts in the final Ben and Fleur and the third will be between Lauren or Andrea. I love to see OTY in the final but I don't think they get there.

I didn't stan for Jake, he was hot just the obvious bias against him by producers was annoying me.

It is also annoying me the treatment Fleur is getting but the other way, the producers are forcing her to go as far as possible. Last night Fleur was in Andrea's VT, Lauren's VT, her family were in the crowd. Simon bigged up her performance before she even did it (a clear sign she was going to get great comments whatever happened) non of the judges mentioned how strained her voice was after. She got the pimp slot at the end and is always in the 2nd half of the show running order wise. In fact aren't her and Stevi the only 2 who haven't been on in the first 3 acts of the lives, which tells you everything.

All I can say about the rest you said is I don't give a toss, I don't post to please someone like you who clearly struggles with others opinions. I don't even bat an eyelid at you inanely saying OTY are amazing each week even if they do a dump on stage.

Much as I love her, I'm not going to delude myself into thinking Fleur actually has much of a chance at victory. It'll probably be Ben or Andrea, with her the other act in the final. I hope I'm wrong though because she's the only one approaching being a popstar.

I like Mel B cheer.gif

Andrea has a great voice, Ben is hot and with the right song his voice is good.

I just don't know how people can watch the X factor and not see how manipulated it is, how could you invest in an act on it knowing that if it isn't the act Simon/the producers want they wont be in the final or get very far.

Posted by: J▼hnkm 16th November 2014, 12:22 PM

But what if people watch knowing full well all that is true and actually do enjoy it? I love the show, even if every single movement is managed. I'm not sure how that stops you investing in an act, virtually every pop star, band, or entertainer is manipulated and managed to a large degree, so it's essentially no different other than trying to flog you their musical wares they are trying to get you to vote for them.

What I mean is to invest in an act you think are good/great to see them used as cannon fodder or manipulated in a bad way. I mean Paul had a really smooth voice, did nothing wrong bar being shy and unmarketable and the noose was put around his neck.

The show feels more forced than ever and I guess if I'm honest I watch out of habit like a lot do now I'd assume.

That is what im hoping for *Evil Laugh*

But it hink it will be a Sevie/Jay, Stevie/SK, Jay/SK

Posted by: sammy01 16th November 2014, 12:39 PM

This week I'd say the FB likes wont be very representative as 3 of the 4 faves (Andrea, Lauren and Ben) were earlier in the running order. This week was all about giving Fleur her moment and I'd assume trying to close the gap on those 3 (she's probably overtaken Lauren now).

Stevi was given everything again too.

Jay was the main target tonight I'd say, the judges arguing over something and chatting about things other than the performance after it is usually a classic way to shun the performance and make people forget the actual singing.

Posted by: euro music 16th November 2014, 12:45 PM

I've not even bothered watching the last 2 weeks because of the themes. Both themes so predictable. MJ/Queen always has the same old predictable songs. Big Band Week rarely has anything to do with big band music which is from the 40s. It is only that they have a live backing band.

I only like 3 of the acts anyway - Fleur - Lauren - Ben

Not everyweek I think both time Stereo Kicks have been bottom 2 they have been near the top 3 on FB likes. Fleur's picture was also put up late after the show ended and the actual picture is a picture of her backstage and not on the stage performing like the others are.

Posted by: Liаm 16th November 2014, 12:50 PM

I don't get why Fleur is so low :/ Stevi had the most likes by far when he was on last so it isn't that. Ugh. It's looking more and more likely Ben will walk this. I just keep thinking how he ticks the safe boxes a la Matt Cardle - he's a bit of an Everyman, is good looking in a "guy down the road you might fancy" and has a clear sense of himself as an artist without being too edgy or "out there".

But virtually ALL the comments on the XF Facebook page seem to be his looks... "Omg gorgeous bby xxxx" "so sexy xxxx" rather than his horrifically grating gravelly voice. I reckon if it was a female with a gravelly voice like that but the same talent level, they'd have gone by now. Or if he looked like Stevi he'd have definitely gone by now. I know the X Factor is about the looks and the whole package, but still it's so frustrating :/

Oh that never bothered me at all, because I am aware of how the show works and to be honest half of my enjoyment has always been getting riled up at a bad decision or the stupidity of it all.

Paul was the sacrificial lamb because of his comments the week before, meh basically threw his mentor under the bus in a strop and Simon/the bosses almost always reward that kind of behaviour with removal of perks/being pushed. Besides he was never going to win/sell many records so he went at a time that was about right for him (bar Stevi, but the joke act operates in a different set of rules)

You say went at the right time but vocal wise he was above Jay, Lauren, Stevi and Fleur (though I'll happily take arguments of people saying she is more performance than vocals).

Posted by: J▼hnkm 16th November 2014, 01:38 PM

About right, Jay is arguable, he has a less good voice but is a more easily marketable prospect (though still not likely to be much more successful), Lauren is much better, or at least has the potential to be much better if she gets some time and effort invested into her. And as I said Stevi operates on a different logic within the show so he doesn't count.

01.0 Andrea Faustini · I feel like I'm in pain every time I hear him sing.
03.0 Lauren Platt · She really needs to get a f***ing grip and move around the stage. Sick to death of seeing her just there, and singing. Averagely.
00.0 Jay James · lol, that was more of a joke than any of Stevi's performances. Mel's comments were all on point.
04.0 Stereo Kicks · it's probably more the theme than anything, but christ this was awful. some of them are nice to look at but they're awful to listen to.
09.0 Ben Haenow · YES. not getting cheryl's comments at all though? although when has she ever spoken any sense. great performance!
10.0 Only the Young · that performance was SO much fun to watch. wasn't massive on the song choice at first, but they made it perfect. charlie <3
00.0 Stevi Ritchie · can the torture end soon please.
05.0 Fleur East · I really want to like her, but her vocals are just getting worse and worse. the rap part was PERFECTION, but everything else is still a bit rough.

Is this Nicole singing a funeral song to indicate the death of X Factor, god this is painful. I mean she is a good singer but the song just seems words, there is no melody at all.

Again, the performing second on sing-off prophecy continues!

I'm happy Stevi pulled it back though, and he did sing better.

Ha! laugh.gif

Posted by: sammy01 16th November 2014, 08:56 PM

I'm really happy Jay has gone but Stevi is going to take flack in press now and on twitter and probably get a sympathy bounce next week now, which is a shame as I'd rather Stevi went next week.

I can't stop laughing at this. laugh.gif What even at sending it to deadlock. Oh well Jay is no loss. Stevi to go next week please.

Posted by: Rooney 16th November 2014, 08:58 PM

If Stevi sings a song like that again next week he'll probably go through, think he might last another week, two at tops though.

Posted by: n4yr 16th November 2014, 08:59 PM

Emeli Sande? What does she even have to promote?

Posted by: Calum Hood 16th November 2014, 09:00 PM

She'll probably sing the song she features on from David Guetta's new album.

Mel whines and complains about last week and then goes and does that? What a complete hypocrite laugh.gif

Stevi was genuinely better than Jay in that sing-off, so I'm rather happy that he stayed in over him. I haven't actually seen either perform full as I haven't watched this in a while, but I still remember Jay butchering Fix You and he did the same tonight with another of my favourite songs, good riddance. Happy for Only The Young, really liked what I've seen of them and I hope they can last a few more weeks and aren't completely stitched up in favour of Stereo Kicks.

Saving Stevi sick2.gif

Just what has She Bangs have to do with Big Band - It's should come under the theme of Latin

Mel is such a troll and i'm loving it wub.gif

Posted by: Liаm 17th November 2014, 04:09 PM

Mel's trolling was annoying when it meant we lost Lola, but I love her more now given it's because of her we're rid of Jay laugh.gif I was pretty sure Cheryl would save Stevi but I thought she'd be the only one. Mel didn't even like Stevi before, she was just like "f*** it let's save him" <3

As I said though, he was genuinely better than Jay in the sing-off!

Posted by: euro music 17th November 2014, 04:58 PM

Own Up!!!

Who would buy Stevi's music if he won?

Posted by: Dobbo 17th November 2014, 05:00 PM

Personally I wouldn't buy any of them. But at least Stevi is entertaining to watch unlike Ben, Lauren, Stereo Kicks & to a lesser extent Andrea.

Posted by: Calum Hood 17th November 2014, 05:29 PM

I don't think it was a case of Mel suddenly having a big turnaround with Stevi, more she just really doesn't like Jay at all.

Posted by: JosephStyles 17th November 2014, 05:33 PM

In all fairness, Stevi's performance was waaaay better than Jay's in the sing-off.

Exactly.

I wouldn't buy his music and I don't even really think he's that entertaining anymore, but I just find him quite likeable actually and even when looking at who's left in the competition now I'd prefer to watch him perform than Stereo Kicks and probably Ben actually. Plus for once, that proved you can easily fall in the sing off with a weak performance... Jay was terrible last night and seemed to put very little into it, whilst you can tell Stevi wanted to stay and gave it his all. If we judge on those two performances, which is essentially, and always should be, the point of the sing-off, it was 100% the right result.

I bet if Jay had stayed, everyone would moan that he stayed based on a really weak sing-off again to be fair laugh.gif

Posted by: euro music 17th November 2014, 06:08 PM

Personally I would ditch the sing-off and just go with the public vote.
After all the judges are just giving their personal opinions and not the public's.
That's why very few winners ever get anywhere after the winner's single. Only Leona, Alexandra and Little Mix.

I think you have a better career coming 2nd to 6th.
Look at One Direction, Olly Murs, Cher Lloyd (especially in USA), Ella Henderson etc.

Can we all talk about how DREADFUL the sing-offs have been this year? And when I think back to the glory days of Ruth Lorenzo's 'Purple Rain' performance.. sad.gif

I think the sing offs are showing that most contestants are really relying on backing tracks/vocals, back up singers and staging to carry them this year.

I know that - but the judges shouldn't have the casting vote - it should be entirely down to the public vote.
The one with the least votes should be eliminated and if it's a double elimination the bottom 2 should go.

The judges have had their votes before the lives.

Posted by: Dobbo 18th November 2014, 05:05 PM

Most of the time it ends up going to deadlock anyway so the judges' cackle is rendered redundant...

They can't do that otherwise Cowell can get sued by Simon Fuller for X Factor bassicly being the same format as Pop Idol.
