Elbow should secure a third consecutive #1 album with Giants of All Sizes. New releases come from BABYMETAL, Big Thief, Freddie Mercury, Lacuna Coil, Ace of Base and Richard Dawson

Nice to see Ace of Base top 40, hope they can stay there, or not drop too much at least.

No, it's out of the top ten!

Posted by: Bloodjerdling Oct 14 2019, 03:43 PM

I hope the 'Abbey Road' re-issue does claim a third week in the top 5, I think the Sgt. Pepper's one managed 2 weeks top 5 back in 2017.

Posted by: pippa Oct 14 2019, 03:44 PM

Impressive start for Elbow.
Really happy to see Ace of Base back on the chart, like previous "Gold" releases from Belinda Carlisle and Five Star i would greatly welcome Ace of Base registering the album in the Top 75 region.

Posted by: Nimbus Oct 14 2019, 03:54 PM

I love Ace of Base but ever since I found out their Nazi ties... can't really say I'm rooting for them

Posted by: Djcheekymagpie Oct 14 2019, 04:01 PM

Meduza Only 39 ouch my tune of week

Posted by: jimwatts Oct 14 2019, 04:08 PM

Brilliant for Elbow. Can't remember the last time TGS climbed in a Monday update - probably the result of so many of last week's new albums crashing out.

Post Malone (the song) is going to knock either Bruises or 47 out of the Top 10 isn't it :/ can't see Gerry staying Top 40 but a decent start for him.

Posted by: JosephStyles Oct 14 2019, 04:09 PM

Sam Feldt is only 31 sales behind 47, so they'll definitely swap by tomorrow's update I expect

Posted by: Bréxit Oct 14 2019, 04:13 PM

Aw at Sidhu already being down to #10. Unfortunately not holding up particularly well anywhere (except maybe YouTube) so likely to drop further, hope it'll still at least stay top 20. Boo hiss at having Sam Feldt top 10 over that.

Surprised at Harry having that much of a lead over #4, a possibility he could stay top 3 then.

Good sales for Elbow's album, an easy 3rd #1 for them. BABYMETAL possibly top 10 as well tho *.* I'm assuming the Freddie Mercury entries at 8 and 39 will be combined later in the week? Also yet another posthumous Bowie release lol, can they not let the man rest xx

Posted by: Berserker32 Oct 14 2019, 05:11 PM

Can't believe Gary Numan is it number 10 and number 11 this midweek. Fantastic news.
Hopefully both will stay in the top 30 on Friday 👍

Posted by: SmileyKylie Oct 14 2019, 05:25 PM

Good to see Five Star still top 100, 75th...... not sure they will hold onto it but still grabbing a few sales on midweeks. Vinyl comes out this Friday

Posted by: Sid_ Oct 14 2019, 05:46 PM

Glad to see some big changes in the top 20, and of course that abomination from Lewis Capaldi had to come back.

Posted by: pippa Oct 14 2019, 06:14 PM

The Script and Gerry Cinnamon are doing well in the update today.
James Blunt, at the least is getting a Top 100 placement.
Had hoped for much higher for Niall Horan than number 46, i hope Top 50 happens this week.

Plenty of movemnt in the album chart, Dermot Kennedy starting to show it was a fluke Number 1 album.
The Darkness, Simple Minds and Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds all experiencing huge falls and may not manage a 2nd week in the Top 100.
Belinda Carlisle, remains to be showing staying power and Five Star are in a much better position on week 2 and the vinyl is still to come.

I'm not sure: the box set includes the single CD compilation and two of his existing solo albums (plus a DVD and Blu-Ray) so they might have to be treated as separate products.

To be fair it is just a vinyl pressing of an album that's been out on other formats for ages. Proportionately I don't think his catalogue has been milked as much as Freddie Mercury's solo career.

I've had a quick look at the chart rules and it does appear as if the box set will have to be treated as a separate product.

Wasn’t expecting a 1-14 drop for Dermot! I’m sure it will hang around though and become a solid seller.

I see - I hadn't looked that up, was just guessing from the fact they have the same title, I remember something similar happening with a Sabaton album earlier in the year and they ended up combined but this might be different if it is a single album vs. a boxset.

And you might be right about that but it just feels like there's been some kind of new compilation or re-release of previous rarities every couple of months since his death and it seems like that might just go on indefinitely at this point laugh.gif (they're still finding ways to milk the corpse of Elvis Presley so...) I suppose it's a good thing for avid fans / collectors who have enough money to keep up with everything.

Just going off the OCC website there have been at least 15 Bowie releases that have entered the chart since his death less than 4 years ago, maybe more if some of those have just been counted as re-entries.

Will Freddie be combined by Friday?

Dermots drop may look worse than what it is. Ellie Goulding had a similar drop from #1 with her debut and that ended up being a long running type success I think he’ll be fine.

The album chart is now my favourite chart to follow. Always something interesting happening there and plenty of change going on.

Dermot Kennedy was not a fluke #1
but he's not a streaming machine and his album streams are low so there is nothing to cushion his 2nd week fall
that's what happens now to all artists that are not streaming-friendly
moreover, his album was preceded by just 1 hit, the only albums doing well on streaming are those that are greatest hits
or pseudo greatest hits like Rita or Clean Bandit

Ive bought all of them in the series so far starting last year with Chas & Dave, Daniel Odonnell & Val Doonican. There is one next from Justin Fletcher (Mr Tumble), and then Boney M, Bay City Rollers, M People will follow after each other.

Interestingly his label feel the opposite way - I’m a Music Week article today regarding Dermot they say he IS a streaming artist but noted that he sold plenty of physicals week one (Mainly due to 2 signings per day release week).

Posted by: Bréxit Oct 15 2019, 05:23 PM

Dermot is a lot more of a 'streaming artist' than several acts that had #1 albums this year and didn't proceed to fall out of the top 10 in their second week. I'm sure his album will still end up having decent longevity but it is surprising to see it having this big of a drop in its second week. (Of course could get back into the low top 10 by the end of the week though).

Posted by: Bjork Oct 15 2019, 06:39 PM

Dermot has had a streaming hit but thats just cos his label has spent a lot of €€€ on payola to have to song high on HH for months
but his album has done nothing on Spotify

Posted by: Bréxit Oct 15 2019, 07:16 PM

I didn't say he did amazingly well on streaming, I said he did better than several other acts who had #1 albums and then did not fall as much as he has this week. It's not even true that his album did nothing on Spotify, there were 3 other songs from it that made the top 200 (and he got his maximum allowed 3 songs in the top 100 on the OCC chart last week so he must be doing something on streaming).

Wow Tones & I have quite the lead at the moment, it's going to be sticking around for a long while at this rate.

Ace of Base, it will be close if they stay Top 40.
Elbow sales have collapsed since the Monday update, but they are safely Number 1.

Is ASIB top 40? No?

I don’t want Aitch pushing Sam Feldt out of the top 10 and I hope Meduza can stay in the top 40 too

Posted by: Nick6 Oct 16 2019, 08:29 PM

Here's hoping Circles manages to sneak into the Top 3. Lights Up charting above it doesn't make any sense.

YAS Sam Feldt

And I seriously hope Meduza clings on
