This week's new Alan Walker track is a bit dull and slow, more like the indie electronica that has been so popular this decade than dance music (although I am sure it is classified as dance) I much prefer Move Your Body.
Loads of new 59p songs this week!
Calum Scott - Dancing On My Own
Emeli Sandé - Breathing Underwater
JP Cooper - September Song
Louisa Johnson - So Good
Niall Horan - This Town
Robbie Williams - Love My Life
Shawn Mendes - Mercy
Shawn Mendes - Treat You Better
Charli still 59p too
Oh please let DOMO die already
Cmon JP Cooper tho & Louisa from those 59p tracks!
Claim Scott should have made his new song 59p instead of DOMO
Sigma is also 59p and so is Alissa Cara too.
I would have liked it if iTunes had sprung on the impact that Sia's single Alive had this week as that surely would have given it a big push.

1154. Military Wives Choirs // Home for Christmas
Wonderful Christmastime top 100 (this one seems to be more popular than usual this year on itunes), such a great Christmas tune from the early days of electropop (I really like the synths in it)
I get bored listening to the same xmas tracks year on year especially this early in the month of December, personally I don't know why people download/ streamed year on year, surely they would have got them on their devices from previous years, sorry Jonjo I'm in Scrooge mode at the moment, getting in character. bah... humbug...
I really hope 'Santa Tell Me' can gain enough momentum to get a top 25 play! I doubt it, but I hope.
Is Sia releasing a new song more or less every other week or something? Hope Imagine Dragons can do well!
Looks like we have a winner of the classic Xmas battle between Mariah and Pogues.
Mariah is being performed by Saara (2nd fave to win) on X Factor tomorrow! *.*
It's not even a battle anymore ever since streaming came into effect, Mariah will win every year now.
Mariah is higher up on the Christmas playlists.
The low sales environment seems to really benefit the Christmas songs, Mariah is already top 10 combined and the Pogues aren't *that* far off... If they're boosted by streaming as much as last year I could honestly see both going top 10 officially over the coming weeks!
15 & 38. Mariah Carey ft The Strange Kid Dancing With Her In The Video- All I Want For Christmas Is You

76. Becky Hill // Warm
Didn't realise this was so high again - really like this; so hope it carries on climbing

I can't see a 59p batch on iTunes at all (Not, looking at desktop, but iPhone/iPad which is where the majority of sales are made). Strange move to take the section away.
I hope Mariah manages to go top ten this year, I imagine she will. Though I do wonder who is still buying the song every year but as streaming is here to stay, Mariah's festive dominance will likely never end.
Is there anything known that's realistically going to threaten Clean Bandit between now and the end of the year? I don't think there are any *obvious* contenders - of course that doesn't mean that something lower down the chart won't climb up.
I think the X Factor single and the London Hospice Choir are the next two number ones. After that who knows. Maybe Little Mix like Joe said if this Touch song is as good as the fans say it is.
MNEK produced? Now I'm intrigued

Still no sign of Riton & Kah-Lo then?
Mariah is off to such a strong start this year and with the song been performed on X Factor this week it should really boost this Christmas Classic next week.
673. Jessie J - Can't Take My Eyes Off You x MAKE UP FOR EVER
:,)
Mariah has carpool karaoke coming up near Christmas. Looks like top 10 is absolutely certain this year and maybe top 5
41. Anne-Marie - Alarm
Rising quickly thanks to being listed as a 'Hot Song' again!
Where did this Studebts message and Blackpool Xmas songs come from?
I know that lol but why have they climbed so high?
Gaga performing on Graham Norton tonight !
https://twitter.com/UniMusicIreland/status/804748000706883584
Also she'll be on Alan Carr's new show next week.
Wow, amazing promo!
This is good for Gaga and great to see she's pulling out all the stops... but if radio don't support her which I suspect they're not going to, won't it be futile?
Still, if she can get another top 20 from this and it helps bolster the album then it's a good thing.
Most of the Xmas songs already dark red, the December effect is over.
Million Reasons is discounted and top 100, just ahead of her X Factor performance.. Her promo team is amazing!
I just hope it's a good performance to help it reach top 5 on iTunes.
I think Million Reasons could have been a hit with some better production.
Maybe someone like Tiësto will come along and give it the remix treatment it needs.
Louisa on the brink of top 10 again. C'mon, do it!
She was at #10 again last night, so she's fallen back down to #11.
59p is really helping her. I would imagine she will go back top 10 after X Factor tonight, as they will be using the clips in ad breaks as usual.
Louisa is back up to 9.
08. Louisa Johnson - So Good
What's the iTunes peak for this song?
Sigala up to 13
Gaga at 62
Five Seconds of Shit have released a new EP, called "Unplugged". I'll update the places on the songs, wonder how high they'll get considering they have a HUGE fanbase.
55. 5 Seconds of Summer - Story of Another Us
57. 5 Seconds of Summer - The Space Between a Rock and a Hard Place
82. 5 Seconds of Summer - Wherever You Are
98. 5 Seconds of Summer - Close As Strangers
102. 5 Seconds of Summer - Lost Boy
113. 5 Seconds of Summer - Tomorrow Never Dies
117. 5 Seconds of Summer - Mrs All American
130. 5 Seconds of Summer - Independence Day
181. 5 Seconds of Summer - Disconnected
Why are they buying all the tracks individually instead of buying the EP?
They've released several EPs:
5 Seconds of Summer (B-Sides and Rarities)
She Looks So Perfect (B-Sides and Rarities)
Don't Stop (B-Sides and Rarities)
Amnesia (B-Sides and Rarities)
Good Girls (B-Sides and Rarities)
LIVESOS (B-Sides and Rarities)
Sounds Good Feels Good (B-Sides and Rarities)
^ none of these songs are brand new, it's just b-sides and Target/Japanese bonus tracks, the most popular ones weren't previously available on iTunes hence why they're doing so well individually.
(I wasn't being serious when I said the thing about 5SOS fans, they are god awful tho )
Spoiler tags for song choices please, not everyone wants to know what they're singing.
No-one can have a shit in 5 seconds.
I prefer 5 Seconds of Summer to The Vamps.
'Amnesia' the best song they did imo.
'I Feel It Coming' is fast becoming one of my favourite songs of the year... hitting all the right spots for me.
164. East 17 - Stay Another Day
61. Jessie Ware - Say You Love Me
Is that new Jessie Ware?
performed on X Factor
20. Mariah Carey - All I Want For Christmas Is You (also #38, Justin Bieber duet #511, Michael Bublé version #572)
49. Jessie Ware - Say You Love Me (also #1462)
55. Sia - Chandelier (also #778, piano version #388)
147. East 17 - Stay Another Day (also #339, #460, #1011, #1300)
164. John Lennon, The Harlem Community Choir, The Plastic Ono Band & Yoko Ono - Happy Xmas (War Is Over) (also #1499)
200. Michael Andrews ft Gary Jules - Mad World (also #466, Tears For Fears version #413)
272. Michael Bublé ft Shania Twain - White Christmas (Bing Crosby version #373, #417, #1301, The Drifters version #1194)
956. Stevie Wonder - Signed, Sealed, Delivered (I'm Yours) (also #1263)
1493. Pentatonix - Silent Night
No boost for Mariah then
Give it time!
Any predictions on how high Gaga will get boosted?
For some reason I am thinking it will boost her quite a lot. I'm going to guess it will stall just outside top 10, but get to #11-#15 area.
5. Louisa Johnson - So Good

20 0.1525 John Legend - Love Me Now
Does anyone know where Vaults is at the moment?
Yeah, I'm thinking it'll go top 10 too. The question is if it can pick up airplay fast enough to get a decent chart peak over the next month. It might be a bit diffficult with the Christmas rush and playlist freezes. I'd love it to outsell PI.
I don't think the John Lewis ad was trying to aim for no1 in the chart with ODLT, but it sounds great on the ad and in this wintry months!
As always Gaga performance was so but so. Good. The song is so good. I Want a big boost!!!
04. Louisa Johnson - So Good
17. Zara Larsson - I Would Like
21. Lady Gaga - Million Reasons
Gaga 18 & 114
Fabulous for Gaga, hope she can make the top 10.
Louisa back up to #4 is incredible for her too
16. Million Reasons - Lady Gaga
102. Million Reasons - Lady Gaga
Her performance was incredible. Talent personified.
13 Zara Larsson I Would Like
15 Lady Gaga Million Reasons
Zara has track of the day today which should force her into the top 10. Gaga would be rising faster if the 59p section had not been hidden from plain sight on the iPhone/iPad.
Gaga at #14 and #85.
Shame it's not looking like it will make top 10 for her.
Hope Louisa can make the Top 10, or at least get a new peak, she may need streaming to pick up a bit though.
Shawn Mendes seems to have risen a little with 'Mercy' as well. Hope he stays in the charts until Xmas as he'll have had a full year with at least one song in the Top 40 if he does so.
7 Zara Larsson I Would Like
Sad to see Gaga totally bombing given how huge she was a few years ago.
She's top 9 combined. With no radio.
10 now!

Zara has confirmed on twitter that I Would Like is a new single. Yet when she first released it she was adamant it wasn't
Classic example of throwing stuff out there, seeing what works and pretending that was always the plan!
Great to see Gaga top 10!
She's on Alan Carr's Happy Hour program friday I believe. So should get a small boost then as well. Hopefully BBC Radio 2/Magic/Heart pick up "Million Reasons" at least.
I think Radio 1 will show some support for Million Reasons at some point, even if they jump on too late and it only goes C-C-C-Off.
It amazes me that radio can't see the potential of Million Reasons. I mean it gets a bit of promo and flies up the charts, always an indication that people actually like the song when they hear it. And yes, I know that X Factor is huge promo, but the impact it has on songs is completely varied (Alicia Keys, Emeli Sande, One Republic etc barely did anything after being on the show).
The same happened when she did it on Carpool Karaoke and it went to no 1 on US iTunes.
See radio 1 are prepared to play bland songs like Say You Won't Let Go and half of Ed Sheeran's back catalogue but won't playlist a better song by a female singer?
I Would Like is a single then...thank goodness....I don't really see the point of non official singles tbh. If a recording artist has a single they should do whatever they can to make it a hit.
5. Zara Larsson - I Would Like
TOP 5
44. Zara Larsson - Ain't My Fault
72. Zara Larsson - Lush Life
112. MNEK & Zara Larsson - Never Forget You
434. Zara Larsson - Ain't My Fault
4. Zara Larsson - I Would Like
So it's definitely coming for a chart play this week then
Yesss Zara!
9. Lady Gaga - Million Reasons
66. Alexander's Journey - Horizon On My Mind
78. Auli'i Cravalho - How Far I'll Go
I think on a general basis they avoid giving too much heavy support for unimaginative bubblegum pop and try and over expose indie turned pop acts and try and make them bigger. So for instance they happily jumped on board with Christine and the Queens as soon as Tilted became big and yet the huge James Arthur no1 was B listed. At the same time they played a lot of The Saturdays but not as much as say Pink!
08. Million Reasons - Lady Gaga (also #92)
Ok no problem, but I'm sure there are numerous examples to counter this.
Still obsessed with I Feel It Coming! After liking it at first, then having it grow on me massively, I would go as far to say it's closest 2016 has got to a perfect pop song.
07. Million Reasons - Lady Gaga
05. Love My Life - Robbie Williams
CHRIST
09. Louisa Johnson - So Good
She was 4 earlier
4. Robbie Williams - Love My Life
why
because of BRIts Icon Special on ITV1
Robbie is going have a really weird chart run with this. The album is sure to climb back into the top 10 during the week now.
Amazing for Zara! Could be a contender for #1 in the new year perhaps?
Zara's campaign is such a mess, I have no idea why she's not had her album pre-order up before promotional slots on Children In Need & X Factor. I'm not sure if 'I Would Like' will trouble the top 10, I can see it peaking around #15-22, I love the song but I'm disappointed it's being released as a single especially judging by LQ performances of 'Funeral', 'Permission' and 'Wanna'.
I'm still hoping that 'I Would Like' is not the single that will launch the album, however at this rate we will have heard over half of the album by now.
04. Zara Larsson - I Would Like
43. Zara Larsson - Ain't My Fault
66. Zara Larsson - Lush Life
125. MNEK & Zara Larsson - Never Forget You [How close is this to 1million?]
384. Zara Larsson - Ain't My Fault
413. Tinie Tempah Feat Zara Larsson - Girls Like
734. Zara Larsson - Uncover
1200. Zara Larsson - Lush Life
7. Lady Gaga - Million Reasons
upcoming promo :
- Alan Carr : interview + performance (Friday, Dec 9th)
- Royal Variety Show : performance (Tuesday, Dec 13th)
The promo should be enough for a top 20 peak on the official chart.
It's not like Gaga has ZERO streaming, it's currently #178 on Spotify
No but Nathan Sykes didn't have zero either and only got to #29(?) despite being top 10 on iTunes all week.
This is what really frustrates me about the charts at the moment. It's like there's a clear division of music tastes between the iTunes crowd and the Spotify crowd. There's never consistency and songs that do well on streaming generally get a bigger result on the official charts but not the other way around.
Simply put, the system is broken and unsurprisingly nobody knows how to fix it.
Or COULD IT BE that the iTunes audience is so much smaller than the streaming audience so that more obscure songs can make top ten
Yeah, if the threshold for a Spotify top 10 was about 1500 streams (like the iTunes top 10 threshold) things'd be a hell of a lot different.
96 & 132. One More Sleep - Leona Lewis
It's doing so much better this year.
Enraged to see Louisa out of the top 10 again.
Has there ever been a Christmas rate on BJ before? (sorry off-topic)

Regarding the Spotify/iTunes balance, it reminds me of the very early paid download days (2004-05) where there was a clear divide as to what sold well on physical singles and what did on downloads. Older fanbase acts (Erasure/Bon Jovi/Depeche Mode/New Order etc) were shifting tons on CD and getting some of the biggest hits of their entire career with tracks barely anyone remembers now in comparison to their 80s/early 90s heyday, and given the collectability of the CD single in comparison to a digital file they're going to sell way more on the older format.
Similarly some harder dance acts did much better physically than on download - who's going to want to buy a lossy AAC file when you can grab a HQ version on CD or vinyl? I have a memory that DJ Tiesto's 'Adagio for Strings' wasn't available on download at all initially, which might go to explain its odd chart run - only a #37 peak (astonishingly low for what was a massive club anthem of the time) but hung around the lower reaches of the chart for ages afterwards. I didn't go anywhere near iTunes for dance tracks until they increased the bitrate in 2009, sticking to CD singles until then with downloads only for the odd pop or rock track.
Going even further back to the early 1990s, there was almost certainly a divide between which artists sold more on vinyl and more on the new-fangled CD and cassette singles. Part of the reason the era has so many re-issued singles charting so high - other than being used in commercials - was because it was everyone's first chance to own copies of the songs on CD, meaning they could finally bin their knackered old record player...
85. J. Cole - False Prophets
93. Elbow - Magnificent (She Says)
Rockabye only 27% ahead now!
Yeah, it's quite funny that, generally speaking, 10 years ago older consumers were buying CD singles and younger consumers were downloading on iTunes, and now the older consumers are downloading on iTunes and the younger ones are streaming everything
Yea... but it's gonna even out in year or two
Well I genuinely believe that people over 30 will move on to streaming too... All new cars from BMW, Volvo and Ford for example have Spotify already.
49 Cruz Beckham If Everyday Was Christmas
to #33 now.
I dread to listen to it.
I skimmed through the iTunes preview, and yes it really is as bad as it looks on paper.
17. Cruz Beckham // If Everyday Was Christmas
shock Christmas Number 1 (joke)
Good grief at Cruz Beckham I'm not even contemplating at giving it a spin
#13 Cruz Beckham - If Everyday Was Christmas
Coming for that top 10
This Cruz Beckham thing is ridiculous.
10. Cruz Beckham
Clearly Cruz doesn't want to play football. Stick to football Cruz.
Can Little Mix and Cruz Beckham swap places or even Mariah Carey?
At least the midweek release means Cruz won't have any chance of officially charting. Unless people try and get it to Christmas number one...
JP Cooper - September Song 44
This is still growing on me a lot. Hope it can go top 40 in the new year (even low top 40 will do)
Mic lowry - Oh Lord 117
Oh lord indeed hope it doesn't get too big!
08. Cruz Beckham
03. Zara Larsson- I Would Like
7. Cruz Beckham
Cruz Beckham slaying iTunes
I haven't listened to Cruz's song yet but it'd be funny if he got his first Christmas Number One 20 years after his mother's first.
Ok... the joke is over, is this Cruz Beckham track a facebook campaign as the joke is getting old. Just go back to your day job
I don't think Cruz Beckham has a day job He's only eleven.
He probably won't have to work a day in his life either as his parents are super rich.
That Cruz song is vile.
Someone start a Facebook campaign to bring back Taio Cruz to combat this name shaming single!
I really could imagine Charlie Puth singing the Cruz song
Cruz following in the footsteps of his mother and slaying the charts with his amazing vocals
Just noticed Robbie Williams back in the top 10! King
Can we not @ that horrendous new Zara Larsson song becoming a hit though I really liked her other hits (minus the Guetta one) but 'I Would Like' is complete trash.
320. Greg Lake - I Believe In Father Christmas
957. Greg Lake - I Believe In Father Christmas
Should be watching this after hearing Greg Lake sadly passed away today
That's always been a Christmas track I've really liked but always forget to put amongst my favourite tracks in rankings etc. Rip Greg
I Believe In Father Christmas a late contender for Christmas Number One? Not that I think he'll achieve it but how poignant he's died close to Christmas.
184 & 322. Greg Lake- I Believe In Father Christmas
7. Jonas Blue feat. RAYE – By Your Side
Coming for that third Top 10 hit.
94. - Greg Lake - I Believe in Father Christmas
RIP Greg Lake - I Believe in Father Christmas is my favourite Christmas song ever - just reminds me of my childhood getting up early on Xmas morning!
76. Greg Lake - I Believe In Father Christmas (+110)
1. Clean Bandit - Rockaybe (feat. Anne-Marie & Sean Paul) [1.0000]
2. Rag'n'Bone Man - Human [0.9005]
Rag'n'Bone Man has also won this year's BRIT's Critics Choice award so this might have helped him further on iTunes!
72. Greg Lake - I Believe In Father Christmas (With Orchestra)
102. Greg Lake - I Believe In Father Christmas
883. Emerson, Lake & Palmer - Fanfare for the Common Man (Single Edit)
990. Emerson, Lake & Palmer - I Believe In Father Christmas
What's out tomorrow of note that could dent the iTunes top 100?
As THE YEAR come to a close there'll be less new songs being released, I just hope the chart doesn't get real stale this January but that is probably asking for too much
New albums from The XX and You me at 6 in the opening weeks of the year - so busy enough!
I just heard 'Human' for the first time, sort of avoided it due to seeing comparisons with Hozier but this is way better! Thankfully.
Greg Lake was up to 12% combined - falling a bit now though.
