I've noticed on the album charts, that for the past few weeks Bob Marley's "Legend" keeps moving up and down in the 50s to 70s placings. Any reason why it has re-entered? Obviously, I've nothing against it but just amazed at it's popularity.
I might know a relative in Birmingham who is reggae mad and may be buying this in bulk, but surely it would be selling more than that. |

Greatest hits albums usually sell well years after they've been releases and are often on discount sales too. Plus with album sales in general being low, they don't need to sell much to enter. I don't think there's anything out of the ordinary that's happened to Legend in particular.

Bob Marley is one of the biggest artists ever so it makes sense for his greatest hits to keep on selling really. Same goes for why Abba and Queen seem to always have their greatest hits in the chart

Thank you for that explanation. I guessed so, it was due to it being discounted. Could there be a chance my aunt could be manipulating it?

Because it's a bloody good collection! Just a shame it never had 'Iron Lion Zion', 'Sun Is Shining' and 'Rainbow Country' on it. If they re-issued it with those tracks, it would be even better!

I'd imagine it sells fairly consistently most weeks and just hops up and down as sales of other albums fluctuate.

They have ways and means of making sure someone can't do that and manipulate things. For example, they have specific bits on the scanners in music shops to recognise these type of sales to ensure that music bought by aunts cannot count towards the chart. |

It's those aunt badges that have been compulsory since 2012. |

One reason might be down to TV shows especially on BBC Four Friday nights. The Queen jump in sales will defiantly be down to this, as they featured Good Friday on the channel.

I'm always amazed by the number of people I meet who listen to Bob Marley.

Just a legend and every now and again his music appears somewhere so 2,000-3,000 people decide to buy it. I was going to buy it and didn't get round to it. Might do over the summer.

Queen's Greatest Hits, Legend and ABBA Gold see this happen most often, though, don't they.

I have the album - you don't have to be a huge reggae fan to appreciate the quality of the album too.... dare I say "timeless"?

I'm not sure if people who actually huge reggae fans are even that keen on Bob Marley, TBH.

Bob Marley is more than a reggae Legend - he took the genre and made it Art with a capital A, was heavily involved in peace, rights and politics, especially in jamaica. He was shot, had loads of kids, influenced many (eg Stevie Wonder) and then went and died very young to stay forever cool.
Oh, and the album is brilliant. |

My aunt just loves reggae. She's a bit of a wild one - she blasts all this music, and she has two men on the go! A man who lives with her and is the father of her youngest two, and on a Friday til Monday (Tuesday on Bank Holidays) she goes off with her fancy man. She is obsessed with someone who hasn't had a hit yet which is Tarrus Riley. We joke it's her husband lol.

It is a fantastic collection of songs, many of them classics, it has wide appeal and an album that will continue to sell, Abba and Queen Greatest Hits sets will be the same.

It's a fantastic album and all anyone needs by Marley really. I can remember when it spent 12 straight weeks at No.1 when released in the summer of 1984.
