Broken Love was a great find, glad it was your winner anyhow as it's your best entry yet. Not too surprised at it not being your highest BJSC entry here though, as it's often the case for me too that my most successful entry isn't my absolute fave. Glad you're a fan of Broken Love, I'm just really glad I happened to send it! Suzi Island just outdoes him for me but obviously since they're both this high I love both! Thanks Dan Broken Love, what a bop *.* Paradise is great too, missed it for ages but it's a banger! Glad you like both of these! Paradise is a smash Thanks Liam! |

In theory this is the sort of act I really shouldn't be a fan of - the lead singer is apparently a famous actor in America and this obviously makes their Youtube videos popular as well as half the comments being filled with comments about said band member. In reality though, it's not about who's in the band (or how weird their music videos are), it's about the sound - and they sound absolutely amazing. I was intrigued enough after hearing Pictures of Girls to find more, and this certainly didn't disappoint, retaining the sound I loved from that but also adding a really catchy beat, making it a complete earworm which went round my head the whole weekend I was helping out on a Scout Camp, which is what the song reminds me of now. Mahmut Orhan & Colonel Bagshot 6 Days - Chart Statistics NE (28/07/2018) | 28-12-5-2-2-3-4-4-4-5-5-5-8-12-18-27-37-41-48-74-78-xx RE (29/12/2018) | 99-97-96-95-xx Video Commentary Another song about days here, and it's the highest charting... let's say full-on dance song (there's a less dance-y song by a dance artist still to come). This song uses a sample from Colonel Bagshot's 1971 track 'Six Day War'. I had a listen to it the other day, in the original the verses go through the first six days of the week, the lyrics getting more and more despairing as they go on. In this remix however they forever stay on Monday, meaning most of the sad bits never happen. They've also replaced the image of war with a music video showing lots of people looking a bit Turkish and not doing much whilst cameras move around them to make them look artsy. Nonetheless this song was a real sticker and spent absolutely ages in my Top 5, and before I made a few alterations was actually my EOY #1. Mahmut Orhan is yet to release another single, hence the current one-hit wonder status. Colonel Bagshot haven't released one in over 40 years so I can't see them making another chart appearance. HUMAN ROBOT - Chart Statistics NE (12/05/2018) | 24-17-9-6-5-3-4-5-6-9-11-19-28-48-45-54-41-49-51-67-81-87-97-xx Video Commentary Honestly trying to find this song on Youtube is so difficult (I mean you try typing in 'human robot' and seeing if this song comes up). I have to actually search for another song by HUMAN and access his channel from here. I probably really confused the Multichart compilers for a few months as well by just writing 'HUMAN ROBOT' in every week. Anyway, this is the highest-charting offering from HUMAN (aka Daniel Adams-Ray, if you were wondering why I stuck a random Avicii song in the chart history). Every time I hear this I realise I've forgotten how good it is, it may not be mainstream but it's super catchy and the rap in the middle is just everything. Please give this a listen if you haven't already! Top 100 Chart History 2018 18 Somewhere in Stockholm (Avicii ft. Daniel Adams-Ray) 2018 85 HIGHER 2018 03 ROBOT 2018 38 GHOST 2018 39 TOMORROW |

Hey Pete
Owl City's Lucid Dream is my fave left. It has a good vibe and nice production. I said hi to Amy Shark because I didn't know her. I wouldn't mind if she is your number 1. Her voice is so beautiful. I find incredible Snow Patrol is still making music. Good for them. Sorry, just not too keen on that Rudimental song. Imagining a classless future is a good thing though. |

Rudimental Toast To Our Differences (ft. Shungudzo, Protoje & Hak Baker) - Chart Statistics NE (16/06/2018) | 63-18-1-1-1-4-4-5-8-12-15-18-26-40-62-70-73-86-76-90-xx Video Commentary I have to say that Rudimental have on the whole been really underwhelming this year, but they did release this gem, and what a gem it was. A great twangy-guitar and brassy instrumentation, alongside three absolutely amazing and yet completely different. The only one I knew before this was Protoje, but this song has really made me look out for Hak Baker (who is certainly my favourite of the vocalists on this, but his solo stuff hasn't been my thing really) and Shungudzo, who's even managed to bag herself another #1! As with every great song though, it was never really pushed, Rudimental instead going for two lesser songs with bigger names which both missed the Top 40 officially. Should've pushed this one guys! Snow Patrol Don't Give In - Chart Statistics NE (16/06/2018) | 17-8-1-1-1-2-2-4-7-11-14-17-21-25-29-37-55-80-xx Video Commentary This top three is so tight-knit, it could be in any order any day, but this is the song which just misses the final day of announcements. The highest-charting of the mass indie band return this year, I think I first heard this on the days when I used to watch the Breakfast Show on a Monday morning when I had a late start at college. It didn't really click with me on the first few listens, but the melody stuck in my head and continued to grow, and it was soon definitely one of my favourite songs. The video is interesting as well, with the people running up the slope and falling, before eventually making it up. Owl City Lucid Dream - Chart Statistics NE (10/02/2018) | 37-2-1-1-1-2-2-3-4-5-5-7-8-15-37-45-64-75-69-91-85-96-xx Video Commentary I mean last year was close but I feel like this year was even closer. I mean I didn't change my #1 and #2 like I did last year but I honestly half-regret not putting this at #1. Whilst this song has absolutely no meaning except for a dream he once had, but his wonderful vocals combined with the cinematics of the song itself, going from a quiet verse into full-on dance-pop for the chorus, it was very clear from the get-go that this was going to be up there with the best. It's the highest #1 in the EOY and it's honestly going to make me feel so nostalgic in years to come - it already does now! Here's to endless years of music from a genuinely amazing man. Amy Shark I Said Hi - Chart Statistics NE (13/06/2018) | 13-8-3-3-3-3-5-7-10-16-14-18-22-25-30-39-42-55-73-75-82-88-96-xx Video Commentary And so my EOY #1 single is by the same artist behind my #1 album! The second female EOY #1 in a row (which is somewhat odd considering about 95% of the EOY Top 100 were male artists) and the first EOY #1 to not actually make #1 officially. I have to be honest, I had never really heard anything about Amy before I heard a snippet of this on someone's Youtube chart, and I was immediately intrigued. Every part of this song is perfect, the timings of the verses, the vocals in the chorus, her wonderfully funny Australian accent, it all just adds to it being an amazing song. I have to be honest, I had no idea that this would even be in my EOY Top 5, but when this came out on top I was perfectly happy to let it be, a wonderful addition to my Hall of Fame. Not familiar with your top 2 but they sound alright on a skim listen. That Amy Shark song was big in Australia so maybe if I still lived there I'd have charted it.

I'm not familiar with that Amy Shark song but 'Adore' was a lovely discovery in BJSC so perhaps I'd like more of her material if I delved into it. Speaking of BJSC, I'm pleased to see 'Show Me The Way' bagging a top 10 position here as it's definitely my favourite Niceland entry to date that to smash Rejects when we eventually get the next round of it otherwise, my other big highlight in your top 10 is courtesy of Snow Patrol! That was definitely a more left-field comeback than I was envisioning because they were so radio-friendly back in the day but I appreciated the switch-up a lot.

Hi Pete, from the top end, Favela, Follow Your Fire, Broken Love, Owl City, Fratellis, Embrace, were all faves of mine, and lower down great to see Saara sneak in (poor ignored Saara!) Sigrid, Hooverphonic, Sigala/Paloma, The Knocks, Eleni, Nicky Romero, all did it for me.
Thanks for all the tips! |

Hey Pete! Here's my picks from your top 50!
1 Amy Shark - I Said Hi Such a good debut album from Amy, think she could have had some success in the UK with the right push 2 Owl City - Lucid Dream 3 Snow Patrol - Don't Give In Really enjoyed their album last year 4 Rudimental - Toast To Our Differences 9 Built by Titan - Broken Love (ft. Starxs) 10 Lukas Graham - Not a Damn Thing Changed 11 Vance Joy - We're Going Home 13 Ofenbach - Paradise (ft. Benjamin Ingrosso) 14 Tom Odell - If You Wanna Love Somebody 15 Rasmussen - Higher Ground Yassss. I had money on this going top 10 at Eurovision so was pleased to be proven right, I had a feeling the televoters would love the sight of a viking representing a nordic country *.* 16 The Struts - Body Talks (ft. Kesha) 19 Lukas Graham - Love Someone Surprised this wasn't a UK hit in the end actually, even a minor one, it's pretty catchy and streaming friendly 22 John Gibbons - Sweat (A La La La La Long) 25 Belle & Sebastian - We Were Beautiful 30 Embrace - Never I thought their album was surprisingly good, this being one of the highlights 32 Lukas Graham - Say Yes (Church Ballad) 34 Axwell /\ Ingrosso - Dancing Alone (ft. ROMANS) This is as close to a trance song as the mainstream has probably seen for years, which was very welcome! 38 Jack Savoretti - Between the Minds 39 Ina Wroldsen & Alok - Favela 42 Vance Joy - I'm With You 43 Lost Frequencies - Melody (ft. James Blunt) 44 The Kooks - All The Time 46 Chicane - Gorecki 47 Vargas & Lagola - Roads 49 Galantis - Satisfied (ft. MAX) Need to check the few I don't know in your top ten too. |
