Ms. Allen's visa status has been reviewed and she has been allowed back into the country
To balance this out, Tones And I is now banned from Persephonia. Pepper & Piano response song? xo If only tbh xx Have ended up changing my entry, this was the song I originally confirmed: But we're now going with a jazzy downtempo electronic instrumental coming out of Brazil. Fully preparing for that DNQ xx (I wasn't really expecting yeule to qualify either anyway, kinda strikes me as something that would have got like 4 points at most from people). |

I don't know this particular song (seems like a very new one) but I'm intrigued / surprised bc I used to listen to Amon Tobin, although rather casually. Apparently I have a few scrobbles from as recently as last year but I don't remember listening then ha xx |

Persephonian News Bulletin ~ 20/10/2019
BJSC 119 (for real this time) #instrumentalbloc #margotrobbie Back to the instrumental bloc for BJSC 119 with Amon Tobin Following their debut win last month Lotunia are now hosting BJSC 119. Persephonia, for the first time in a while, switched entries partway through the confirmation period (apologies to yeule with 'Broken Arrow' which ended up not being selected and likely won't in future contests now either oops x) but the representative we ultimately decided on for our 98th main contest entry is Brazilian producer Amon Tobin. The song, 'One Shy Morning', dropped at the end of last month is the lead single from his forthcoming (later this month) album 'Long Stories', his 9th studio album under his own name and 13th including a couple of albums under pseudonyms Cujo and Only Child Tyrant and two as half of the duo Two Fingers. It's been a productive year for Tobin with this being his third album of the year after previously being quiet since 2012. Tobin is the first Brazilian act we've sent to the main contest, and indeed the first South American act of any description, meaning we now finally have at least one main contest entry representing all 6 (inhabited) continents. Got that off the bucket list just before the 100th entry anniversary! (Including spinoffs we have already sent a Brazilian act, quite a while ago in fact, sending Bonde Do Rolê's 'Solta O Frango' to the Foreign Language II spinoff). It's a long overdue first instrumental entry of the year for us, our 17th to date in total in the main contest. Tobin is an experimental artist making this song a little hard to describe, the best I can say is that it's a downtempo electronic track with some subtle jazz influence which walks the line between relaxing and slightly unsettling, the latter captured in the song's artsy music video (linked below) which sees a featureless character journey through a distorted hellish landscape which warps and glitches around it. Tobin's own description of the song as "the sound of Margot Robbie riding a unicorn into the sun right before the world explodes and all that's left is a ghost of love" doesn't offer much more insight than what I just said. Reportedly the new album was recorded mostly on a broken omnichord (which seems to be a digital harp) giving this song some glorious pseudo-string instrumentation, also throwing in some crunchy percussion sounds for good measure. (note the video has a short clip of a different song playing during the credits - yes, it has credits, these are important!!! - the song on its own is here) 'One Shy Morning' appears as song 15 of 28 in semi-final 2. This contest sees two Persephonian alumni reappearing again. Up at song 2 in our own semi-final representing Bøtanikkä, Kito (of Kito & Reija Lee) makes her first contest outing as a solo artist after representing us with her and Reija's remix of Spor's 'Pacifica' in BJSC 52 and the duo subsequently also being sent by Varakë and Cadelicia. Kito's latest entry is 'Wild Girl', a collaboration with Empress Of. Meanwhile in semi-final 1 in slot 10, Digitalism make their third BJSC appearance after representing us in BJSC 82 and later Beaverdonia, this time repping Fljótavík with the Shinichi Osawa remix of 'Pogo'. |

Apparently I have a few scrobbles from as recently as last year but I don't remember listening then ha xx I have a feeling this might end up being exactly the same situation as Kælan Mikla where the artist's newer material is pretty different to what you've heard from them before haha. I've not dug into any old stuff from Amon yet (only heard this one and the one other song he's released from his new album) as I only stumbled across this song the other day thanks to a random YouTube recommendation which I thought had a cool looking thumbnail lol but from what I've read his albums apparently all sound quite different to each other but still having a recognisable core 'Amon Tobin sound' to them. |
