QUOTE(Jessie Where @ Apr 4 2024, 11:42 PM) *
Tory MP William Wragg has sent nudes to somebody on Grindr, and found himself in a position of being blackmailed into leaking the personal phone numbers of some journalists and fellow MPs.

Surely this means another by-election on the horizon?

Wat?! How did the person know who he was, and how did he end up sending nudes to someone who wnated the phone numbers of powerful politicians and journalists?!

Although it's commonplace to send nude pictures on these apps, most people aren't MPs for God's sake. Doesn't he have any brains or was he hi when he did it? Plus, sending out colleagues numbers too?

Back in 2018, when Theresa May (remember her?) was PM, the government said thay would be introducing legislation to ban conversion therapy, i.e. attempts to "convert" people who identified as gay or lesbian. Not much happened for years although successive PMs continued to say they supported the measure. It is now being reported that Sunak is dropping the legislation. Hard-right nutjobs on the Tory benches have ensured that it will still be possible for people to insist that lesbians and gay men can somehow be converted and charge people for they "services".

They've completed lost the plot now and the Reform influence is there in plain sight. Let's not have GPs sign people off work.. nope let's create another Government run administration with no qualifications to sign people off! Bonkers.

As well as being morally wrong, isn't this shit going to cost an absolute fortune - already has to be honest. This will only prompt, when the inevitable legal challenges happen, very unpleasant gammony calls from Farage and the usual suspects to leave the ECHR, pretending it's a foreign court when it is an international court which we helped to form. Just another step into fascism.

Surely if a change of government occurs in the coming months, they can simply reverse this? Or is it not that simple?

I'm sure they can stop the project even without changing the law and Labour have made encouraging noises about it. They will almost certainly do that if it's perceived as an absolute disaster by the public, However, it is Keir Starmer as PM and so his default position is to go as right wing rather than left, so if there is any support for the project (even in reality it is a complete shitshow) then I wouldn't bet my life on him scrapping it. Another Labour leader yes, him no.

I don't think anyone actually wants this, even the right wing bunch don't think it goes far enough and that bloody ECHR will likely stop most of them with their pesky morals, Sunak was just desperate to get it in to say he did something. I am pretty sure when Labour take over, it will go pretty promptly (I'm not sure a plane will even take off, it will take ten to twelve weeks and you can bet almost all of them will get legally challenged)
