Aly + AJ - P.B.S [No2 then nothing else]
I'm sure there's lots more. I will do some delving. Lisa Loeb the most famous obvz. Huge no1 for me and one of my favourite songs EVER but no other UK releases Shakespear's Sister, Gina G and Olive are others that spring to mind. |

If we define a one hit wonder as an act who's had a #1 and no other hits (out of 55 #1s):
Aly & AJ – The Potential Break-up Song Danity Kane - Damaged Will.I.Am Dizzee Rascal ft. Groove Armada Plain White T’s – Hey There Delilah Lady GaGa - Just Dance Kelis ft. Janet Jackson just misses out on the list since she charted for one week with 'Rock With U'. |

I've only been doing my Buzzjack chart since the summer.
I was, though, on hospital radio for many years and introduced a unique Top 20 show, the ONLY chart compiled completely at random by rolling dice... I chose all 20 contenders (a mixture of current hits, retro and odd leftfield tracks, pretty much like my Buzzjack chart) and rolled percentile dice scores for them all, with those at the top end getting extra rolls so you didn't have chart runs like 20-1-17-2... I've got all the charts (going back to the late 90s) in books, so I'll consult to find my one hit wonders. As for my Buzzjack chart, a likely one hit wonder is 'Pasos Al Costado' by Turf. I'm very much into South American soccer, and this tune forms the basis of a regular crowd chant in Argentina, Chile, Uruguay etc.. I had it go straight in at number one, and there for five weeks, but as none of their other songs has the same resonance, I don't expect them ever to chart again... |

Ignorning silly little featured artists like T.I and Jay-Z, these are my only one hit wonders (i.e a number one, but no other Top 10 hit). Those who have NEVER had another Top 40 hit are in bold.

Copying the format above, these are the artists who have been to #1 in my chart but no other top 10 hits. The ones in bold haven't had a top 40 hit.
Mutya Buena ft. Joss Stone – Baby Baby Baby [2 wks.] Janet Jackson – Feedback [1 wk.] Ida Maria – I Like You So Much Better When You’re Naked [2 wks.] Artists Stand Up To Cancer – Just Stand Up [1 wk.]* P!nk – So What [3 wks.] M.I.A. – Paper Planes [2 wks.] Alesha Dixon – The Boy Does Nothing [1 wk.] Lady GaGa – Just Dance [1 wk.] *of the Artists Stand Up To Cancer lot Fergie and Natasha Bedingfield have had top 40 hits but not in the top 10 and Ciara, Sheryl Crow, Melissa Etheridge, Keyshia Cole, Carrie Underwood and LeAnn Rimes have had no other top 40 hits. Chris Brown, Kanye West and Ne-Yo have had several top 40 hits but their female artists helped them reach the top 10. Ida Maria and P!nk are both in my chart with songs that may go top 10. Alesha will probably do well in a few weeks with "Breathe Slow" so I expect her name to disappear from this list soon. The rest would probably make top 10 with another single: M.I.A.'s other 'hit' was off the back of BJSC, Lady GaGa entered with "Christmas Tree", Mutya's was "Song 4 Mutya" in the first few weeks of my chart when it was months old and Joss Stone's was an unofficial single from an advert. |

An update from since I last posted in this thread back in March last year.
I've now had 2 artists who have had no.1s and nothing else: Biffy Clyro - Mountains (1-1-1-1-2-3-4-5-8-10) CSS - Left Behind (5-2-1-1-1-1-4-7-10) I've had a couple of close shaves though: Infadels - Free Things For Poor People (4-2-1-1-1-2-5-6-8-10) The single which preceded 'Free Things...' spent one week in the chart at no.10, and 'A Million Pieces' which was released after it peaked at no.9 Primal Scream - Country Girl spent 3 weeks at no.1, but Primal Scream's other two entries didn't climb any higher than no.10, and neither spent a particularly long period of time in the chart |

Kele - Tenderoni Tame Impala - Solitude Is Bliss Dr. Dre Liam Howlett will almost certainly never get a hit in his own right again but whenever The Prodigy return he'll probably have several massive hits with them Tame Impala got to #1 because I was randomly obsessed with that song at the time and I'd just seen them at Reading Festival. Sort of lost interest in it/them since Although it's still a very good song This post has been edited by Bray: 27th April 2011, 08:37 PM |
