yeah I feel like I would just end up entering something I actually really like but know would completely fail in a normal contest to see how people react to it - which goes a little bit against those stated aims.
got plenty of those potentials in my metal and hyperanime pool already thx |

This has been suggested for years now and I have always thought it would be fun as a one-off, I think the focus should not just be on a song you actively hate but something that's clearly bad/tacky but enjoyable to you that others may share or be completely repulsed by, with the wide array of tastes, it could throw up some surprises. It would be an enjoyable SyncTube session at the least!

I suggested that once before many moons ago with the same negative scoring system but do sort of get the reservations. I’d be very intrigued to see how many would participate and just how awful an entry people could find. It could be fun but could equally be tedious if loads of the the entries were just horrible noise to listen to rather than ‘awful’ but fun novelty entries, for example. Also what would the country with least points get for their accolade of sending the least ‘bad’ song.
I wonder if that sort of contest could work better in another forum as an anonymous thing maybe as a one-off experiment, rather than BJSC where we have our country names attached and you know who sent what. The reveal in particular of the entries would be particularly fun. |

I mean, yeah if you couldn’t tell from the tone of my post it was not intended to be a serious contest suggestion, I just never considered it as an idea before and although I can see it seems a ridiculous waste of time, there could be some discoveries that would go down in BJSC folklore as some of the iconic moments, but again, people may not want to try to deliberately find a self-sabotaging entry just to try and be the worst of the worst. It was only an idea as a one off but I am sure there are plenty of other ways to try this without being self-depriving.

It’s okay to have an idea that not everyone likes. It’s generated discussion so it must be an interesting concept.
The only problem I can see with it is that we wouldn’t be allowed within BJSC rules to enter songs that Beaverdonia had already entered in the main contest |

Honestly I think this could be fun, I'd be here for the messiness of it (speaking as someone who tends to vote for the car alarms pots and pans stuff that I hope this would end up being). I feel like though it'd be a bit of a slog to listenthrough if it's all just dreary pop songs sung off-key, hopefully people would go more for chaotic noisy stuff. Maybe if it was framed more like sending the weirdest, most bizarre thing you can find, something that will make people think 'what on earth am I listening to'? I feel like that could work

It’s okay to have an idea that not everyone likes. It’s generated discussion so it must be an interesting concept. Pretty much any idea I ever made on BuzzJack wasn’t liked by someone and that’s not a self critical statement but rather a simple truth and obviously I can accept I won’t ever find any ideas within BJSC that Silas would be ok with, and that’s fine tbh. In any case, were this concept to be realised, it would not be myself to run it because, well, I’m still not allowed under the letter of the law, so it would require someone else to take the reins to make it happen. Ansel’s suggested is a much more balanced and rounded out one that could attract more participants than what I said though, so perhaps go with the angle of crazy, bizarre, noisy pieces mixed in with whatever other genres people want to send that fulfils the theme. I appreciate the variety of dialogue this idea has brought about though, and again, I won’t take credit as it’s clearly been suggested before my time in BJSC but I did not know this at the time. |

For main contests yes, don't think there's ever been a co-hosted spinoff though x

Anyone wanting something to get stuck into during this short gap before the next BJSC contest may feel free to submit an entry to MFSC III which is now open for confirmations!

What about a mashup spin off?
Each song entered as to consist of at least 2 songs overlapping in a mashup style. Maybe we would need a maximum number of songs in the mashup also. There would need to be a way of veto-ing out the well known mashups. Most unofficial mashups are not on Spotify, however. If would be primarily a YouTube contest. |
