Songs now with a very clear connection, the same name lol. The king and queen of pop come together~ Madonna's was the fourth and final single from 'Bedtime Stories' and was a hit back at critics who panned her sexualised image in the era that came before. Michael's song was the fifth single of the hugely successful 'Thriller' album and became the fifth top 10 from it. Neither ranks particularly highly in terms of iconic songs from the artists and both are quite sombre/mellow, but which do you prefer? Vote for your favourite one in the poll and comment in the thread below! Also discuss any other favourite songs or lyrics that relate to these.

Madonna easily, the MJ track has never been a favourite of mine although it does work wonderfully as the basis of the SWV hit which I frankly adored back in the early 90s.

In general I'd favour Madonna over MJ who I find overrated a lot of the time but I have a soft spot for his 'Human Nature', it's one of my favourites from him.

Human Nature is one of my least favourite Michael Jackson songs but I do actually prefer it to Madonna's which i've never really got into. I do prefer the back story of Madonna's and the fact it's so relevant to how she was as an artist back there and giving no f***s, but if I had to listen to one on repeat it would be MJ's (although I wouldn't enjoy listening to either on repeat lmao).

Madonna's is iconic for this:
Honestly, Madonna's has really grown to become one of my favourites of hers. It's a wonderful "f*** you" moment on an album that is so widely regarded as damage limitation. I love the porn-y R&B/hip-hop melody and the sarcastic lyrics, each one of them quotable, and the song is just so appropriate for any point of her career. If she could pull something like this out of the bag again in response to all the criticism she gets today, I'd be so chuffed. This is my absolute favourite performance of it; pretty sure this is part of the reason I fell so in love with the song: MJ's version actually reminds me slightly of Madonna's 'I'll Remember'. It feels quite well known for a song that wasn't actually a single in the UK (although I suspect that's down to how famous its parent album is) but it's not one I ever really took to. It's pleasant enough but I'm sure he's done a lot of better mellow produced songs. |

That poor/lucky (delete as appropriate) dog (o )(o )
Madonna easily, the MJ track has never been a favourite of mine although it does work wonderfully as the basis of the SWV hit which I frankly adored back in the early 90s. Why was I under the impression that you loved the Jackson song? I'm sure I remember you loving it in the rate I hosted a while back. Or was that John or Jark? Someone definitely did I'm sure - might have to dig out that thread and find out who. |

I would doubt it but please feel free to correct me if I did... I don't hate it but it's definitely not one of my favourites, as I say I vastly prefer the SWV interpretation of the music and I don't generally do MJ when he's being all soppy.

Both are what i would regard as weak releases by both artists and both songs that are very forgettable.

I love both but Madonna's is more kick ass.
Human Nature was made more famous for the excellent sample used in SWV Right Here. |

Much prefer Madonna's. I find Michael Jackson incredibly overrated and can count the number of songs of his I like on one hand.

Very close indeed! Each time I look, the other song has sneaked in front.
I'm surprised about the MJ 'haters'; I'd have thought with his substantial back catalogue and how he is effectively a male Madonna that people would generally like his work. |
