I've (obviously) voted for John Middleton, Charlotte Bellamy + Emmerdale
Ive voted the same as Jase, bit with Rachel instead of Charlotte, partly because I want to hear them say "and the winner is RACHEL ADEDEJI"
John Middleton, Charlotte Bellamy anD Emmerdale received my votes.
The Soap Awards are still happening on Saturday night but it won't be broadcast live anymore. Due to the concert in Manchester on Sunday, the BGT final has been brought forward to Saturday night and has now taken its place. The Soap Awards will now air on Tuesday (6th June) night at 8pm on ITV.
This is an understandable move, ideally the results would not leak before it goes out on tv but this will not be the case which will ruin it. I liked the live idea as it meant i would not know the results. While i will try to keep away from sites that will reveal the results i know its highly likely i will come across the headline by accident which will give the results away.
That said, i think this will be the year Emmerdale sweep the board.
Definitely the right move of course, although of course Digital Spy and every other news outlet will now publish the results in their headlines, ruining it for everyone watching
I'll be rather annoyed if Emmerdale don't win literally every award going tbh Eastenders deserve absolutely nothing, Corrie...hmm.
The move means I shall now be able to watch it but I did feel like making it live would help the ratings. In the past, the winners have been revealed several days before and, as expressed above, it spoils it for other and they'll be less inclined to watch. Still, they can always go live next year and the move is for very good reason.

Tony Warren Award, presented by Pam St Clement - Gillian Richmond (EastEnders scriptwriter of 30 years)
I'm absolutely DELIGHTED that Emmerdale won all of the major awards! Absolutely 100% deserved. EastEnders being snubbed (outside of the Tony Warren award) is sad but to be expected - SOC's horrendous and I just hope the BBC open their eyes to the state of the show sooner rather than later
Absolute shocker for EastEnders but definitely deserved! They really need to sort the show out!
Going live definitively adds to the excitement as i think many viewers watch to see any mistakes. Sadly, i have seen the results, but i wont spoil it for those who havnt. My own opinion of the results is they are 90% correct and reflective of how the soaps are delivering.
EastEnders just went there for the free food and drinks
Let this be the slap in the face that they needed, the programme has gone to pot at the moment!
Didn't EE win nothing after the love and peace era, that's another comparison we can make to then I'm glad though, they didn't deserve a thing and it just shows that making effort and not being complacent with "people will watch it anyway so we'll take 3 years to get every story going", Emmerdale deserved that sweep!
The results i thought were extremely fair. I was delighted for Emmerdale, Charlotte Bellamy (Laurel) was so genuinely shocked at her best actress win, she has been nominated so many times that it was wonderful to see her finally awarded. It was a fantastic night for Emmerdale. The dementia storyline was rightly awarded as it in my opinion, is one of the best acted and scripted storylines from a Soap in a long long time.
That said, it was unfortunate for Coronation Street that the Bethany Grooming storyline clashed with the dementia storyline as i would think in most other years that storyline would have won the award.
EastEnders (and i am a fan) got what it deserved which was essentially nothing based on the their current output. There is no denying the show is awful at the moment and surely those results have left food for thought.
I've unspoilered Jase's post now that the ceremony has aired on TV!
The only thing bad about EE not winning anything is that Tameeka still hasn't got the funniest performance award. She should have won the year the CCTV scene aired
I totally agree about Tameeka, and she 100% should have won the year the CCTV scene aired. Kim remains one of the very few characters on the show that i actually enjoy her airtime. I do hope she will win it one day after been nominated so many times. That said, Charlotte Bellamy from Emmerdale was nominated as Best Actress on numerous times before she eventually won this year. There is hope for Tameeka yet.
Bit disappointed we didn't get a montage of Gillian Richmond's work on Eastenders and particularly that we didn't get a proper tribute for Hilda Ogden aside from her picture appearing after the credits.
I had forgot their was no montage of Gillian Richmonds work, that would have been lovely to see.
Pam St Clement, seeing her at the awards painfully reminded me of the huge mistake that was made in killing her off.
How on EARTH wasn't Emma Atkins (Charity in Emmerdale) nominated in the funniest performance category?!?!? Her being tranquilized/her impersonation of Moira owned absolutely everything else which was nominated?
Very valid point about Emma Atkins (Charity Dingle) she truly has provided numerous comedy moments.
I would like to believe that many others feel the same as both you and me Jase about the killing off, of Pat Butcher.
I often think about what the past 5 years would have been like had Pat not been killed off. Stuff like Lucy's death, Peggy's death, Kathy's return, Carol's cancer, Janine's arrest etc. When she returned as 'ghost' last year, I genuinely felt like the show had really missed her and could do with her presence, and I am reminded of that in public appearances like at the Soap Awards where she's in fit health and would still be up for being in the show.
Pat would have been an essential part of the outlined storylines you mentioned. Pat Butcher brought an air of familiarity when on screen to casual watchers of the show or people who only watch it once in a while. Her character had such a strong presence of the show.
So pleased for John Middleton (and Charlotte too, of course). His acceptance speech (dramatic performance?) was lovely.
