2017's MTV EMA Awards celebrating the best artists and songs that performed well in European charts will take place at London's Wembley Arena on 12 November.
Dua has been nominated for THREE awards: Best UK & Ireland Act, Best Look and Best New. Here is who she will be competing against: Best UK & Ireland Act Little Mix Louis Tomlinson Stormzy Ed Sheeran Best Look Harry Styles Rita Ora Taylor Swift ZAYN Best New Julia Michaels Khalid KYLE Rag‘n’Bone Man Anyone can vote (not restricted to Europe!) although only people living in the UK or Ireland can vote for Best UK/Ireland Act. I think Rag'n'Bone Man will be her only real competition for Best New but unfortunately I don't think she has the fanbase to win any of the other awards
 I have voted for her in all three though!  Unfortunately she won't be able to appear due to her supporting Coldplay on the Latin American leg of their tour but hopefully they'll play a pre-recorded performance on the televised show. Looking at the list of winners now, Dua is one of the few artists who deserved to win the category they were nominated for.
Shawn Mendes beating Ariana and Taylor for Biggest Fans is a joke, same for how There's Nothing Holdin' Me Back beat Despacito, Shape of You, Wild Thoughts, and Rockabye. I mean good on him but that just doesn't seem right Eminem won Best Hip Hop despite only just releasing new material less than a week before the awards, beating the likes of Drake, Post Malone, and Kendrick Lamar. Coldplay won Best Rock (over The Killers, Foo Fighters, Royal Blood, U2) despite not really being a rock band anymore (Something Just Like This and Hymn For The Weekend for example) yet lost Best Live to Ed Sheeran... Compared to 80% of the other awards, Dua did pretty well winning 1/3 nominations!  |
