Just heard it for the first time in a while, does anyone else think 'Now or Never' sounds shockingly like Rihanna - 'Needed Me'?

'Strangers' is now out there.

If you're a fan of her or Lauren you'll probably like it. But I find it quite boring tbh. The productions good though. I feel like if they had stronger voices, it'd properly go off. But instead I feel like the song is pretty flat.

The production is fab, I really like it but I feel it would be INCREDIBLE with like the right person singing it with more oomph and personality. This is definitely the best thing I've heard from this era so far anyway.

her online / artist / life profile is everything in the worst way

shouting at your fans to stop being rude when others have said something online when she's been so busy she has time to read every message online

though i've just looked on twitter snd she's had time to feel great about herself / 'make fans seem safe' by authentically signing 3000 pieces of sellable merchandise. i fully expect a deleted 'f*** you' response on twitter i'll never see as i don't have a twitter x

i mean...hasn't she described she described the faux bisexual duet with the girl from fifth harmony as the best song she's ever put out?!

Same, Strangers is by far the most commercial of the three singles she's put out so far.

okay as an album this is SOLIDLY better than i was expecting, it's really cohesive as a package yet incorporates different styles. the singles kind of fit hte album but are a lot more mainstream than the rest of the album, which doesn't scream "hit" so to speak. i can imagine this album being received well though, it is a good follow up to BADLANDS in terms of artist development

saying that, i'm just still not REALLY feeling it. 100 letters, heaven in hiding and hopeless are the standouts for me but i feel like a few others have chance to grow. i really hope i can come to love this, as badlands is still so special to me. her pretentious personality just overshadows so much

OMFG the singles don't reflect the rest of the album all?!!! Like these album tracks are very good and actually have big choruses, good build ups and the production is AMAZING wtf is she even doing putting the most dull songs as her singles????

(I'm only half way through but still)

Album definitely not what I expected either. Although, it's less commercial than I expected from what she was saying about it.

Now that I've listened to it a good few times, I do love it but I find myself skipping now or never and eyes closed. I think concept albums are 100% Halseys strong suit and she's much better at creating a whole body of work rather than "hit singles". I feel like that's why badlands worked better as she was trying to create this whole world around the concept and was more concerned about doing that right rather than coming up with songs that will chart well etc. It's almost like she came up with HFK minus eyes closed and now or never and her label was like nah chuck in a couple of generic af electro pop tracks we can put out first to hit the more mainstream market because without them the album flows really nicely. There's such a varied range if inspirations that you can hear, like I listen to one song and think this could be a destiny's child song from the early 2000s and then you've got Alone that just has a really lush eighties vibe to it and then it gets a bit more gritty and rappy in the middle and then the vocal part with the trills in Lies sounds sorta middle-eastern?? Idk, I love it tbh, not a patch on badlands but it's SOOOOOO much better than I was expecting wub.gif

I listened couple times whole album already. And my fav songs are "Heaven In Hiding", "Alone", "Angel On Fire", "Don't Play". I swear, I thought before that HFK would be not so good.

Anyone half expect 'Don't Play' to suddenly turn into 'Under the Sea' from The Little Mermaid? laugh.gif
