Playlisted by Capital already so that would suggest it's the second single from their album!

Surprised the Stormzy remix is doing so well considering it's not even advertised on the iTunes front page, and the Calvin Frank song is and is climbing nowhere near as fast. Definitely going to push the Chainsmokers/Coldplay off #1 then

Posted by: Bjork Feb 24 2017, 09:32 AM

I have to say I'm disappointed with Ed not releasing 2 newies today, think it would have been a big achievement to have 5 songs in the top 5 :/

Posted by: mdh Feb 24 2017, 09:41 AM

Tbh I think he wouldn't have achieved that anyway. I can't see Something Just Like This missing the top 5 in any scenario.

Hope to see some more Stormzy album tracks rising. The Jason Derulo track is very addictive and I could actually see it being a hit (after thinking wtf on first listen). The Calvin Harris one sounds slick.

I was hoping the Stormzy remix was a grime version of Shape Of You instrumentally as well as with his vocals, rather than just him rapping on top of the original tropical house-pop tune.

That's why I said tropical house-pop. Just my term for pop songs that seem to be infused with tropical house style instrumentation. Maybe I should have just called it tropical pop, as yes, it is not house or dance music.

No.

0.5 = half of the combined Ed total
0.25 = 1/4

This is one of those songs you hear a lot when you're out but never know what it's called - just gave this a listen and it's pretty good, wouldn't mind it being a hit in the future. Definitely very trendy with the trap/distorted drop, but not too overbearing at the same time, with a Spotify push this could be a decent sized hit.

Such a shame the superior Back To Me with Lauren Jaregui [I think I spelled her name right?] didn't do anything in the end sad.gif

Spotlight is a A+++++ solid 14/10 pop song, so glad to see it back wub.gif She's such a talent, I'd love her to have hits with her next era. Songs like I Still Love You and Go All Night (ik the latter was a feature) could've easily been big. She has so many good songs though, I especially love He Ain't Goin' Nowhere, If This Isn't Love, I Remember Me, Don't Look Down, Giving Myself, I'm His Only Woman and of course And I Am Telling You <3

Can't believe this is doing so poorly, especially considering he performed (part of) it at the Brits. I think it's one of the best things he's done for ages, that chorus is so good! Anyone know if there's any more promotion planned for it?

Posted by: pippa Feb 27 2017, 04:16 PM

With the remixes of Shape of You been all counted into one, Ed Sheeran will most likely experience an increase in sales for number 1 this week. Should this happen, it is a wonderful achievement for a song on its 8th week at number 1.

I cant help but feel it was Castle on the Hill experiencing this as i think its by far the better of the two tracks.

Mixed signals by Robbie is a song i expected to perform better based on the Brits performance but for Robbie to get traction on singles chart he needs to constantly promote which we seen with his last singles especially Love my Life. Love my Life got so much promotion and it still only managed a high top 30 peak.

Love this and it's such a radio friendly song and different from what Robbie normally does.

The icon award/Brits doesn't seem to have had a big impact in general though? I know LML went back into the Top 20 but faded away quickly, his Brits medley didn't seem to do anything and his albums hardly got a boost.

It's their next single from Glory Days and features Machine Gun Kelly - the version will get an individual release on Friday meaning it'll probably have New Music Friday and iTunes Hot Songs support. Bearing in mind Ed will be everywhere, where do we think it'll chart first week?

I doubt Sean Paul was the main reason Hair was successful tbf, the Little Mix fanbase will buy the new mix regardless of who it is and the song is popular already so I think it will do a lot better than you're suggesting, especially as they're enjoying more success than ever!

I doubt it, considering they haven't flopped since... 'Word Up'? Plus, NMSS screams 'hit'.

I imagine it should go top 30 this week, possibly lower since Ed Sheeran will inevitably clog up the top 20. I echo those saying it won't peak for a while yet. 'Touch' took off almost instantly but it had the X Factor performance to boost it, and the chart was a lot quieter in December.

Posted by: Tinasha Mar 2 2017, 12:07 AM

There are a few things to take into account with No More Sad Songs. Firstly, Machine Gun Kelly is nowhere near as big a name as Sean Paul, but then NMSS is arguably a much better and accessible song than Hair, and the girls are even bigger than they were when they released Hair. And another thing to take into account is if they're releasing the video this week, their videos always have an effect on their chart positions. Secret Love Song, Hair and Touch all got significant boosts.

It also depends how quick the label are to get it onto Hot Hits UK.

Good that they've entered on the back of an announcement! So that'll be 3 entries on Friday, then! wub.gif (It's a great single choice and will continue their mini-Justin Bieber style effect of appealing to more than just their casual fanbase - i.e. another streaming hit I imagine)

Also, I'm SO happy to see them still top 100 with their BRITs performance, after all the others seem to have faded away (barring Ed of course).

7PM UK time. After almost 4 years she choose the worst week of all time (After Adele?) to release, don't get it but I love her and I think it will be big anyway.

Posted by: Liаm Mar 2 2017, 12:21 PM

First week doesn't really matter as much anymore, of course it's not ideal when you release on the week that Ed Sheeran will take up god knows how much of the top 20 but songs take a while to build anyway so in a few weeks time when it's picking up airplay and it's risen on spotify it won't matter that 3 weeks ago Ed Sheeran took up the top 20.

Wasn't it just propped up by the Comic Relief or whatever charity it was for tag and then completely bombed out the charts subsequently.

Posted by: sammy01 Mar 2 2017, 01:46 PM

It depends what you are looking to get out of a single, it was for charity so looked good for them, went top 10 and kept them firmly in the public eye.

No one bar the few on here will know it sold only 100k.

Posted by: danG Mar 2 2017, 01:51 PM

It went 6-18-43-60-OUT, not exactly great for the biggest girlband of the current generation, although it was only a promotional single for charity and didn't have any negative effect on their career. I'd still call it a flop though.

Posted by: JosephStyles Mar 2 2017, 02:01 PM

Word Up! got let off quite lightly really with the fact it was just a cover for charity, it's easily swept under the rug. Top 10 is good but it was an underperformance for sure.

Yeah, I don't know why people are using the charity label to justify its underperformance -- if anything, that should have bolstered its sales. It was a definite flop, but it wasn't exactly well received so it was hardly a shock. I'd consider it their only flop really; 'How Ya Doin', 'Little Me' and 'Change Your Life' didn't do great, but they weren't nearly as big back then, and their swift chart runs weren't anything out of the ordinary back in 2013.

Exactly (though Move isn't a 2nd rate song) at the time they struggled a lot to get top 10 hits, especially after the first single off an album. Word Up was a means to an end, made them look a big act getting a charity song gig and look good doing something for charity and got them a top 10.

Shout Out To My Ex is heavily influenced by GRL, whereas Touch is kind of Beyoncé influenced, especially the bit with the group singing 'Wait So Long'.

Change Your Life is my favourite Little Mix song.

Hope Matches and Run do well, they both sound great from the small previews. Matches is actually the first future bass song I have ever liked judging by the preview, definitely sounds much livelier than The Chainsmokers or Martin Garrix's new songs. dance.gif

Matches - maybe about #65 officially (maybe #20-25 on iTunes if lucky) and offaiah may just make top 100 officially (low top 40 on iTunes if lucky). Both will hopefully be playlisted by Radio 1. Little Mix and Machine Gun Kelly should easily go top 10 on iTunes quite quickly of course and should be in line for a top 30 official entry. Lorde I am not sure, probably will make top 20 on iTunes and may make about #55 officially.

I personally think only Little Mix & possibly Coldplay will be top 40 along with climbers into the top 40 for Imagine Dragons & Julia Michaels! Lorde is hard to tell but I think she'll be low top 50 as I can't see streaming being too kind to her!

I think Julia Michaels will make it, though because of the Ed Sheeran influx I think Imagine Dragons will definitely miss out sad.gif

Posted by: cqmerqn Mar 2 2017, 06:29 PM

Yeah Julia Michaels is a contender

iTunes peak / Spotify peak / Official position

06 / 62 / 28 | Little Mix ft Machine Gun Kelly - No More Sad Songs
12 / 75 / 45 | Coldplay - Hypnotised
101+ / 101+ / 101+ | Cash Cash ft ROZES - Matches
08 / 65 / 35 | Lorde - Green Light
101+ / 101+ / 101+ | offaiah - Run

The 'Matches' song has leaked online in full, it certainly has an interesting sounding drop, pity it and offaiah - Run are unlikely to ever officially make top 40.

R we really thinking that Lorde will not make the official top 40!?!? WTF why? She's really big and her single is super anticipated and it's a bang. She will do much more than that.

Posted by: Jade Mar 2 2017, 08:50 PM

Great start for Lorde biggrin.gif would be one of the absolute best chart hits of the year so far if it could make it.

Posted by: Bré Mar 2 2017, 08:51 PM

I'm actually a little surprised that Lorde is that high already, I know the wait for new material from her has been long and painful but considering she only has one big hit I am pretty skeptical of whether she'll be able to manage a second one. Really hope so though, it's a pretty great comeback single and sounds more mainstream than her previous material so I could definitely see it being big provided it gets the Spotify playlists / radio support.

Ed seems to be hyping up "Perfect" as the monster song from the Album, wonder whether he may perform that and propel it to number 1.

I had a feeling Lorde would be pretty big with this next era. She is literally the internet darling and has blogs like Buzzfeed & Popjustice wetting themselves over her! Plus, I really think being BFF's with Taylor has really helped her fanbase grow.

So I fully expected her to get off to a strong start! Loads of hype surrounding her return.

Posted by: timjimlee Mar 2 2017, 09:19 PM

For me Lorde's David Bowie Tribute at the Brits last year was flawless and gave her more credibility than I think she previously had.
Hope "Green Light" smashes, she was described as "the future of music" afterall!

I think Lorde could be top 40 even with all the Ed Sheeran tracks tbh! This start is fantastic and it's even without Hot Songs support, which will hopefully propel her into the top 10.

Yes I'm delighted to see Shooting Stars take off, its climbing on both Spotify and iTunes and could even be a future hit. Banger.

EDIT - a future hit / second coming of a past hit
