V1 :
YTD Sales : Please read these guidelines before you request sales estimates, it makes my task a lot easier. 1. Be specific - please name the artist and title for each entry you'd like an estimate for. 2. I log sales for all albums that have charted this year, but only update those that have sold enough to reach my 200 position tracking range 3. If an album isn't in the current Top 100, I won't be able to update its sales until Tues. Also, please don't ask about ex-T100 albums too often - once a month at most) 4. Remember to check the thread before requesting estimates - they may already have been answered. Also, no more than half-a-dozen requests at a time, thanks. 5. Please note my figures are combined sales & streams, and since I have no way of separating them, I cannot provide a split. 6. While I am no longer estimating singles sales, I can provide YTD singles positions from C+, and I am still maintaining my sales archive based on published figures (PM me if you want to see it) 7. Total sales are post-1994 only, so sales of albums relased before then will be understated. Thank you. As someone who used to follow the charts and sales year ago and have only started again recently, it's shocking to see how low sales are now, which is especially highlighted by all the greatest hits albums! Unlike in the singles where it has gotten a lot easier, getting a platinum certified album now is a massive achievement.

Some Albums carry on selling around 100,000 - or more - every Year. Even though they are Decades old.
If 'Greatest Hits' by Queen, can retain its place, in the Year End Top 10, it will be only the 2nd time that it has been in the UK's Annual Top 10 Best Selling Albums. 'Officially' it was 2nd for 1981. However, the New Book - the 1981 'Music Chronicle' - adds in the Sales, for the final Week of 1981 and the Queen 'Greatest Hits' Album moves up from 2nd to 1st place. Despite their gigantic UK Album Sales, (2nd only to The Beatles, I believe), Queen never had the UK's Annual Best Selling Album more than once... As someone who used to follow the charts and sales year ago and have only started again recently, it's shocking to see how low sales are now, which is especially highlighted by all the greatest hits albums! Unlike in the singles where it has gotten a lot easier, getting a platinum certified album now is a massive achievement. Apart from initial physical sales upon release most sales for many albums are now gained from streams. The only way to rack up decent streaming totals in the long run would be to remove the rule that downweights the streams of the 2 most streamed tracks on an album. But that would only lead to Greatest Hits albums clogging up the charts even more than they do at present.It's a different era but here are the equivalent YTD sales from 5, 10 and 15 years ago: 2015 Pos - LW - YTD - Total - Artist - Title - New - Hst 1 - 2 - 1,239,765 - 1,239,765 - Adele - 25 - 03/12/15 - 1 2 - 1 - 844,000 - 2,534,000 - Ed Sheeran - X - 05/07/14 - 1 3 - 3 - 806,000 - 2,054,000 - Sam Smith - In The Lonely Hour - 07/06/14 - 1 4 - 4 - 498,000 - 873,000 - Taylor Swift - 1989 - 08/11/14 - 2 5 - 5 - 440,000 - 1,118,000 - George Ezra - Wanted On Voyage - 12/07/14 - 1 6 - 6 - 426,000 - 426,000 - James Bay - Chaos & The Calm - 04/04/15 - 1 7 - 8 - 410,000 - 410,000 - Elvis Presley - If I Can Dream - 12/11/15 - 1 8 - 9 - 339,000 - 339,000 - Jess Glynne - I Cry When I Laugh - 03/09/15 - 1 9 - 7 - 327,000 - 378,000 - Hozier - Hozier - 18/10/14 - 3 10 - 10 - 280,000 - 280,000 - Meghan Trainor - Title - 07/02/15 - 1 11 - 11 - 268,000 - 268,000 - Mumford & Sons - Wilder Mind - 16/05/15 - 1 12 - 20 - 248,000 - 248,000 - Justin Bieber - Purpose - 26/11/15 - 2 13 - 12 - 244,000 - 244,000 - Florence & The Machine - How Big How Blue How Beautiful - 13/06/15 - 1 14 - 13 - 234,000 - 234,000 - Noel Gallaghers High Flying Birds - Chasing Yesterday - 14/03/15 - 1 15 - 18 - 220,000 - 650,000 - Olly Murs - Never Been Better - 06/12/14 - 5 16 - 16 - 211,000 - 211,000 - Years & Years - Communion - 11/07/15 - 1 17 - 15 - 210,000 - 737,000 - Paloma Faith - A Perfect Contradiction - 22/03/14 - 5 18 - 14 - 210,000 - 438,000 - Royal Blood - Royal Blood - 06/09/14 - 3 19 - 17 - 202,000 - 242,000 - Sia - 1000 Forms Of Fear - 19/07/14 - 5 20 - 32 - 178,000 - 178,000 - Little Mix - Get Weird - 19/11/15 - 2 2010 1 984000 Lady Gaga Fame 2 903800 Take That Progress 3 778600 Michael Buble Crazy Love 4 745800 Alicia Keys Element Of Freedom 5 730800 Paolo Nutini Sunny Side Up 6 718600 Florence & The Machine Lungs 7 676600 Eminem Recovery 8 674800 Plan B Defamation Of Strickland Banks 9 629800 Mumford & Sons Sigh No More 10 469400 Justin Bieber My World 11 453200 Kings Of Leon Come Around Sundown 12 441400 Pixie Lott Turn It Up 13 394400 Glee Cast Glee - The Music - Season One - Vol 1 14 380200 Black Eyed Peas E.N.D. 15 379600 Boyzone Brother 16 363600 Andre Rieu Forever Vienna 17 345200 Katy Perry Teenage Dream 18 340600 Rihanna Rated R 19 337400 Robbie Williams In & Out Of Consciousness… 20 319800 Script Science & Faith 2005 1 Back to Bedlam - James Blunt 1,798,454 2 X&Y - Coldplay 1,676,544 3 Employment - Kaiser Chiefs 1,017,000 4 Forever Faithless - Faithless 847,000 5 Intensive Care - Robbie Williams 838,000 6 Hot Fuss - The Killers 811,000 7 Demon Days - Gorillaz 802,000 8 American Idiot - Green Day 754,000 9 Scissor Sisters - Scissor Sisters 754,000 10 Eye to the Telescope - KT Tunstal 737,000 11 Hopes And Fears - Keane 732,000 12 Don't Believe the Truth - Oasis 717,949 13 Love Angel Music Baby - Gwen Stefani 705,000 14 Face to Face- Westlife 588,988 15 G4 - G4. 557,541 16 Definitive Collection - Tony Christie 557,000 17 The Singles - Basement Jaxx 556,000 18 The Massacre - 50 Cent 541,000 19 Breakaway - Kelly Clarkson 540,256 20 Piece By Piece - Katie Melua 501,800 2005 is the point where sales of albums were just beginning to decline after reaching a record breaking amount in 2004 (which was 53 week year so week on week average sales in 2004 and 2005 were almost similar). To this point in 2005 there were 3 million selling albums, the same 3 being 900k+, 13 were 600k+, 21 were 500k+ and 46 were 300k+. The year end chart saw 7 artist albums sell a million, 10 sell 900k+, 23 sell 600k+, 31 sell 500k+ and 65 sold 300k+. The number 200 album of 2005 ('Twentysomething' by Jamie Cullum) sold 89,000 though by this point total sales were closing in on a million. |

Remember being gutted Gaga didn’t hit a million in 2010! She did - the above sales are the equivalent YTD sales for this week in 2010 (week 49, 2010). 'Fame' ended up as the 3rd best selling album of 2010 on 1,051,700 sales with overall sales to the end of 2010 being 2.44m. |

I know someone probably says this every week but that chart really does make depressing reading.
3 239,000 Dua Lipa Future Nostalgia 7 199,500 Pop Smoke Shoot For The Stars… 11 160,000 Taylor Swift Folklore 17 133,500 Juice WRLD Legends Never Die 18 128,000 Lady Gaga Chromatica I think that's it isn't it in terms of 2020 releases? |

Plus Eminem which was released in January, plus I'd say Harry and Stormzy's albums are worthy of appearing in the Top 20 as they were released at the tail end of 2019. More to the point though, I agree it is pretty depressing, especially seeing those greatest hits in the Top 10. |

Also what makes interesting reading, only 3 artists have spend 2 weeks or more at #1, Dua Lipa, Taylor Swift, Lady Gaga (37 out of 40 albums to reach #1) for a week. Shocking |
